Öğe Effect of 1,3-diol structure on the distribution of boron between CHCl3 and aqueous phase(Marcel Dekker Inc, 2003) Karakaplan, M; Tural, S; Sunkür, M; Hosgören, HThe various new aliphatic 1,3-diols, containing primary, secondary, tertiary, and mixed of these groups, were synthesized and used for the solvent extraction of boron. Diols (8a, 8b, 9, 10a, 10b, 11, 12a, 12b, 13) were prepared from (beta-hydroxy carbonyl compounds 1-7. The fixed standard solution of boric acid of 1.00x10(-2) M was extracted with 0.1 M and 0.5 M diols at equilibrium pH of 2 and at constant ionic strength (I=0.5). The best extracting reagent was found to be 11, which is a primary-tertiary class of -OH groups and methyl groups as a substituent on the second carbon of 1,3-diol.Öğe Effect of long-chain amines on the extraction of boron from CaCl2 brine with CTMP in petroleum benzine(Marcel Dekker Inc, 1999) Yurdakoç, M; Karakaplan, M; Hosgören, HThe effect of TOA (tri-n-octylamine), TOMA (tri-n-octylmethylammonium iodide), DEDA (N,N'-didodecylethylenediamine), DEDMA (N,N'-didodecyl-N,N'-tetramethylethylene-diammonium diiodide), and NDM (N-dodecylmorpholine) upon the solvent extraction of boron from CaCl2 brine with CTMP [2-chloro-4(1,1,3,3,-tetramethylbutyl)-6-methylolphenol] in petroleum benzine has been studied. In order to extract boron effectively and reject other cations such as Ca2+, the extraction of boron with CTMP was investigated in terms of extractant, the concentration of an amine, and solvent polarity. The results show that in the presence of long-chain amines, boron extraction with CTMP in all solvent systems was shifted To a more acidic pH range. Larger extraction, hence distribution, and an increase in selectivity are observed when CTMP is used together with long-chain amines and their ammonium salts in petroleum benzine.Öğe Evaluation of some agricultural wastes for the cultivation of edible mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus var. salignus)(Assn Food Scient Techn India, 2003) Yildiz, A; Karakaplan, MSoybean and lentil straw were used as culture media for Pleurotus ostreatus var salignus. As additive substance, 15, 30 and 60 g doses of lentil straw were added to 100 g soybean to obtain different rates in the culture medium. The N% in composite dry weight were 0.5 for control group and 0.60, 0.75 and,0.92 in 15, 30 and 60 g doses of lentil straw, respectively. The effect of different doses of lentil straw on harvesting time was not statistically significant as to control group (p<0.05). The first and total shortest harvesting period in 60 g dose was obtained in 28.5 and 60.4 days, respectively. The highest total fresh yield per 1000 g of material (70% moisture) was 247.5 g in 15 g dose, while the lowest yield was 209.5 g in control group. The dry weight of the product obtained in the experimental group was found to be 10%. The % protein contents (N x 6.25) were 31.68 for control and 31.25, 51.87 and 46.87 for 15, 30 and 60 g doses, respectively.Öğe Organic elements and protein in some macrofungi of south east Anatolia in Turkey(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2005) Yildiz, A; Yesil, MF; Yavuz, Ö; Karakaplan, MThe macrofungi specimens were collected from locations around Diyarbakir and Batman. The highest protein concentrations (% dry weight) were found to be in Agaricus bisporus (51.2) which was collected at the Campus of Dicle University and T ustale (50.5) at the Gercus district in Yolagzi village. In conclusion, protein contents, and organic elements were found to be changeable according to growth region and species. (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd. DHD was prepared from glycidol and octanol by thermal epoxide ring opening reaction without using acid or base catalyst. The structure of this new extracting reagent was identified according to its spectroscopic data i.e. C-13 NMR, H-1 NMR and elemental analysis results. The fixed 10(-4) M was extracted with different volume standard solution of boron (as borax) of 10 ratios of DHD and n-amyl alcohol (AA) at different equilibrium pH values. The best extraction result was obtained at high pH values with a mixture of equal volumes of DHD and n-amyl alcohol. The different equilibrium pH values were plotted against the extraction yields (%R) and the pH(0.5) value was determined by using this graph. The extraction of boron from aqueous solutions with equal volumes of DHD and various solvents were studied and it was found that petroluem ether, n-amyl alcohol and diisopropyl ether are convinient solvents for boron extraction. Stripping of boron loaded organic phase was achieved with H2SO4 aqueous solutions. The effect of stripping as a function of H2SO4 cocentration was also studied.Öğe The solvent extraction of boron with synthesized aliphatic 1,3-diols(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2004) Karakaplan, M; Tural, S; Tural, B; Turgut, Y; Hosgören, HA variety of aliphatic 1,3-diols (4a-c, 5a-c, 6a-c) was synthesized from beta-hydroxy carbonyl compounds (1-3) for potential use in the solvent extraction of boron. Primary-secondary and primary-tertiary alcohol structures of 1,3-diols substituted with isopropyl, isobutyl, and isopentyl groups have been demonstrated to be very efficient for the solvent extraction of boric acid from aqueous solutions. The extraction ability of 2,2,5-trimethyl-1,3-hexanediol (5b) was investigated as a function of 5b concentration, solution pH, solvent properties, and stripping conditions. Extraction efficiency increased with increasing concentration of 5b, and the best extraction of boron (96.8%) was found to be at an equilibrium pH of 2 with 0.5 M of 5b. Chloroform, toluene, chlorobenzene, 2-octanol, and n-amyl alcohol were found to be suitable solvents for the solvent extraction of boron. The boron complex can be recovered from the organic phase by treatment with an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide. The highest ratio (96.7%) of boron was recovered by 0.1 M of sodium hydroxide solution.Öğe Studies on Pleurotus ostreatus (Jacq, ex Fr.) Kum. var. salignus (Pers. ex Fr.) Konr. et Maubl.(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 1998) Yildiz, A; Karakaplan, M; Aydin, FThis study was conducted on the growth and cultivation of Pleurotus ostreatus var. salignus on local cellulosic wastes. The highest and lowest yields for 100 g material (70% moisture) were obtained with peanut straw (24.8 g) and with sorghum straw (11.3 g), respectively. Protein, pilus/stip, sporophore weight, % dry material, N and C in highest amounts were obtained with peanut straw. The lowest mushroom weight and pilus/stip ratio were obtained with sorghum, whereas the lowest protein, N and dry material weight were obtained with wheat straw. In all the P. ostreatus var. salignus cultivated on peanut and sorghum straw, the most abundant nutrients were protein, potassium and carbon. These results are discussed in relation to the prospect of cultivating P. ostreatus var. salignus in Diyarbakir, Turkey. (C) 1998 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
