Özet
Sembol, birçok bilim dalında çalışılmış bir konu olmasına rağmen benzerkonularla karıştırılabilmektedir. Kendisi gibi soyut bir anlama işaret eden diğerkavramlardan farklı olan özelliklerini bilmek sembolü daha iyi anlamaya katkısağlayacaktır. Bu makalede dini sembollerin özellikleri incelendi. Gerektiği yerdesembolün “işaret”le benzer ve farklı olan yönleri üzerinde duruldu. Sembolünkendisi dışında bir hakikati göstermesi “işaret”te bulunurken, gösterdiğihakikatten etkilenmesi ve çok anlamlı olması sembolü işaretten ayıran özelliklerarasındadır. Semboller, özelliklerinin yanında bireysel ve toplumsal işlevleresahiptirler. Bunları bir arada ele almak çalışmayı gereksiz yere uzatacağındanmakale daha açıklayıcı olmak amacıyla sembollerin özellikleri esas alınarakhazırlandı. Bu bağlamda yedi ayrı özellik önem sırasına göre incelendi.
Although the symbol has a subject been studied in various disciplines, it can be confused with similar topics. Knowing the features being different from other concepts which indicate an abstract meaning like itself will contribute to a better understanding of the symbol. In this study, the characteristics of the religious symbols have been examined. The similar and different aspects between symbols and signs are focused whenever it is necessary. While the fact that the symbol does not show any truth other than itself, it is available within the “sign”, being influenced by the truth shown and being very meaningful are some features distinguishing the symbol from the sign. Symbols have individual and social functions besides their features. The article was prepared on the basis of the characteristics of the symbols in order to be more explanatory since it would unnecessarily extend the study. In this context, seven different features of the symbols were examined in order of importance.
