dc.description.abstractFusidic acid derived from Fusidium coccineum is an antibiotic which inhibites protein synthesis of bacteria and has been used in Turkey since the beginning of 1998. In vitro activity of fusidic acid was investigated in 69 methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and 56 methicillin-sensitive S. aureus (MSSA) isolates by disk diffusion method. Fusidic acid resistance was found 20.3 % in MRSA strains and 3.6 % in MSSA strains by disk diffusion test. In our country fusidic acid preserves its state of being an empirical antimicrobial agent in a combination therapy by its lower resistance rates and it is a preferred peroral drug in middle and mild staphylococcal infections of outpatient clinics.en_US
