In this study, transurethral resection of the prostate was performed in 73 patients with urinary outflow obstruction during 1991 and 1996. The intermittent flow irrigation technique was performed in first 18 operations and continous flow in the remaining 55 patients. The mean resection time, urethral catheter stay time is significantly shorter in the continous flow group. There were no significant difference in hospital stay time. According to our study, the resection of the prostate is easy to perform and shorter in time, using continous suprapubic drainage. Also it is very easy for the urologists and comfortable for the patient to determine the residual urine via suprapubic catheter after the first micturition.en_US
