The Iberian Peninsula has witnessed the political domination of Muslims on various scales for eight centuries under the leadership of the Araps. During this time, the peninsula was named “Andalusia” by the Muslims. With the cultural, social, political and scientific knowledge they carried with them from east, Muslims contributed significantly to the enlightenment of Europe as they built a new civilization in Andalusia. During this period, many poets, scholars, physicians, historians, philosophers, travelers were grown up. One of them is Lisan al-Din Ibn alKhatib who lived in the last Islamic state in the Andalusia the Nasrids/the Beni ahmers emirate period (635-1238/897-1492). Ibn al-Khatib is one of the most distinguished personalities of the last period of Andalusia with his successful political services such as clerkship, viziership, ambassadorship, historiography, medicine, poetry and literary personality, which he carried out in the Alhambra palace, the reign center of the Nasrids, one of the most magnificent architectural structures of the Andalusian Islamic civilization. Ibn al-Khatib, who gained a great reputation in Andalusia and Maghrib with his literary, scientific and political accumulation, achieved the same fame in the whole Islamic world. He attracts great attention in the world of Western science and literature, especially in Spain, with his works that he has written in history, literature and medicine. İn this study, his life, works, literary personality and poetry will be emphasized.
