Öğe Association of socioeconomic status with myocardial infarction and complications of the myocardial infarction(Logos Medical Publishing, 2011) Yildirim A.; Tanriverdi M.H.; Atilgan Z.A.; Tekbaş E.; Şar F.Aim: To determine the association socioeconomic status with myocardial infarction and complications of the myocardial infarction. Material and Method: We studied 67 patients (40 men and 27 women) who were admitted to Internal Medicine Clinic of Haseki Education and Research Hospital in between June 2007 and July 2008. Results: Of the patients, 40 (59,7%) were men and 27 patients (40,3%) were women. The average age of the patients was 58,6±9,77 years, ranging between 30 and 85. It was found that there was a statistically significant difference between patients' health insurance types (p=0,001). The rate of smoking men was higher than smoking women. So, smoking according to gender was also found statistically significant (p<0.05). Hypertension was seen in men more than women which was statistically significant according to sex (p=0,005). There was no association between complications seen after myocardial infarction and patient's health insurance types (p>0,05). Conclusion: It was found that there was a statistically significant difference between patients social security institute (p=0,001). Between gender and smoking rates are seen as statistically significant difference (p<0,05). Higher rate of smoking of men than women were found. The incidence of hypertension was found statistically significant relationship between gender (p=0,005). The incidence is significantly higher in male patients. Of the patients developed myocardial infarction complications as Yeşil Kart rate of 32.6%, SSK 54,3%, Emekli Sandi{dotless}?i{dotless} 6,5%, Bag-Kur 4,3%, without social security 2,2%. It was found that there was a statistically significant difference between the social security institute and complications after myocardial infarction. Conclusion: We conclude that low socioeconomic status (low income) and working in a stresful job may be precipitating factors in the occurance of MI and MI complications.Öğe The effect of tamoxifen on the neonatal development of rat glans penis(1997) Deveci E.; Önen A.; Tacar O.; Yildirim A.From the first day of birth to the fifth day, daily subcutaneous 100 ?g tamoxifen (Tx) was injected into new-born male rats. The penises that were taken totally were fixated in 10% formaline, and then they were put in paraffin inclusion. The paraffin sections were stained with Hematoxylen-Eosin. Verhoeff and Triple on days 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 and 60. The alterations in the development of glans penis construction were examined. We found that in the glans penis of animals which were given Tx, from the 21st day, the epidermal projections were erased slowly and on the 60th day the epidermal projections and keratinisation completely ceased altogether. As a result, the development of epidermal projections in rats which were given tamoxifen in the neonatal period were hindered.Öğe Outcomes of photodynamic therapy with a half dose of verteporfin in patients with chronic central serous chorioretinopathy(2013) Türkcü F.M.; Yüksel H.; Şahin A.; Çinar Y.; Cingü K.; Şahin M.; Yildirim A.Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness and the results of photodynamic therapy (PDT) with half the dose verteporfin in chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR). Materials and Methods: Nineteen eyes of 19 patients diagnosed with chronic CSCR were included in the study. The diagnoses were made by fundus fluorescein angiography and optical coherence tomography (OCT). Corrected logMAR visual acuity (VA) and central macular thickness (CMT) were analyzed before and after treatment. The baseline and the sixth month results were compared. Results: The mean age of the patients was 37.4±6.1 and 16 (84.2%) of them were male, 3 (15.8%) of them were female. The mean follow-up time was 7.9±2.2 (6-12) months. After PDT, 15 (78.9%) of cases gained minimum one line increase in VA. In three (15.8%) patients visual acuity remained unchanged and in a patient (5.3%) VA decreased one line. There was a significant reduction (p = 0,001) in the mean CMT values when compared before and after PDT. Subretinal fluid in OCT resolved completely in 17 (89.4%) patients and partially in one (5.3%) patients but it showed an increase only in one patient (5.3%). There was not any complication due to PDT in any patients. Conclusion: Photodynamic therapy with a half the dose verteporfin was considered as an effective treatment in the patients with chronic CSCR.Öğe Response: Comment on: Mean platelet volume in patients with retinal artery occlusion(Conselho Brasileiro De Oftalmologia, 2016) Şahin M.; Şahin A.; Yüksel H.; Türkcü F.M.; Yildirim A.[No abstract available]Öğe Result of treatment and follow-up in our cases with active ocular toxoplasmosis(Gazi Eye Foundation, 2014) Türkcü F.M.; Yüksel H.; Şahin A.; Çinar Y.; Cingü K.; Şahin M.; Yildirim A.Purpose: To evaluate the clinical characteristics, follow-up findings and treatment outcomes of patients diagnosed as active ocular toxoplasmosis (OT) in our clinic. Material and Methods: The data of seventy five active OT patients seen between 2009 and 2012 were analyzed retrospectively. Age, gender, visual acuity, laterality, follow-up findings, treatment modalities, complications, and recurrence rate of the patients were evaluated. Results: Active OT was diagnosed in 75 eyes of 75 patients. The mean age of the patients was 26.3±7.8 years with 47 (62.7%) females and 28 (37.3%) were males. The detected involvement sites were 60% central and 40% peripheral. All the patients had active lesions at the time of application. Contralateral chorioretinal scars were identified in 17.3% of the patients. The mean follow-up was 15.1±10.0 months. Complications were cataract formation in 2 patients, posterior synechiae in 5 patients, vitreous condensation in 2 patients and epiretinal membrane formation in 4 patients. Recurrence rate was 38.7% during follow-up and recurrences were all in the same eye. Conclusion: Ocular toxoplasmosis is the most common infectious uveitis. Although it is a self-limiting disease, treatment and follow-up are very important because of potential reduction in vision caused by serious complications. Early treatment and long term follow-up are essential to prevent to development of sequelae and ensure early detection of complications in patient with active OT.
