Öğe Castleman's disease (giant lymph node hyperplasia) of the neck(Springer, 2001) Osma, Ü; Cureoglu, S; Yaldiz, M; Topcu, ICastleman's disease (giant lymph node hyperplasia) is an uncommon cause of neck mass. Its cause and pathogenesis ale still unknown. Giant lymph node hyperplasia (GLH) usually presents as all asymptomatic solitary mass and can occur anywhere in the head and neck. Diagnostic test results are always inconclusive. Excision and histopathological evaluation are the only ways to make a definitive diagnosis. The disease is curable by surgical excision. A case of GLH presenting as a solitary neck mass in a 68-year-old man is reported. There has been no recurrence during about 7 months.Öğe Castleman's disease in the porta hepatis(Springer-Verlag, 2000) Uzunlar, AK; Özates, M; Yaldiz, M; Büyükbayram, H; Özaydin, MWe report the CT, ultrasonographic, and pathologic features of a localized forms of Castleman's disease in the porta hepatis due to their unusual location. Our report suggests that the CT and the ultrasonographic features of Castleman's disease in these locations without calcifications is nonspecific.Öğe Cervical biopsy specimens and human papilloma virus positivity in patients with external genital warts(I R O G Canada, Inc, 2002) Akdeniz, S; Yaldiz, M; Akdeniz, NCervical biopsy specimens were taken from 16 women with external genital warts in order to diagnose concomitant cervical human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) according to pathology. Positive HPV infection was detected 56% (9/16) of the patients. Among those patients 66% (6/9) had concurrent subclinical low-grade CIN lesions. One of those patients had a high-grade CIN lesion. It is concluded that cervical HPV infection was rather common in women with external genital warts and it is valuable to examine cervical HPV infection by biopsy to detect concomitant CIN.Öğe Cis-platinum combination chemotherapy during pregnancy for mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of the ovary.: Case report(S O G Canada Inc, 1999) Bayhan, G; Aban, M; Yayla, M; Gül, T; Yaldiz, M; Erden, AC[Abstract Not Available]Öğe The effect of benzalkonium chloride on rabbit nasal mucosa in vivo(Springer-Verlag, 2002) Cüreoglu, S; Akkus, M; Osma, Ü; Yaldiz, M; Oktay, F; Can, B; Güven, CIn this study we investigated the histopathological changes of nasal mucosa after the use of topical benzalkonium-chloride solution. In the study, 28 male New Zealand white rabbits were used. The animals were divided into two groups. In the first group, 50 mul of 0.001% benzalkonium-chloride solution was sprayed into the right nostril and 50 mul of 0.9% saline into the left twice daily for 14 days. In the second group, the same solutions were applied twice daily for 28 days. All of the biopsies from each nasal cavity were processed for electron microscopy. In the nostrils treated with 0.001% benzalkonium chloride, there were areas with obvious squamous cell metaplasia. Some cells showed broken cristae of the mitochondria. Degenerative changes in the supportive and olfactory cells, deformation of nuclei and the increase of heterochromatin were observed. The present investigation has shown that the application of topical benzalkonium chloride does induce degenerative morphologic changes in the nasal mucosa in rabbits in vivo.Öğe Effects of whole blood, crystalloid, and colloid resuscitation of hemorrhagic shock on renal damage in rats(W B Saunders Co-Elsevier Inc, 2003) Önen, A; Çigdem, MK; Deveci, E; Kaya, S; Turhanoglu, S; Yaldiz, MPurpose: The aim of this study was to determine the effects of whole blood, crystalloid, and colloid treatment on histopathologic damage of kidney induced by hemorrhagic shock in rats. Methods: Fifty-six male Sprague Dawley rats were divided into 8 groups. The carotid artery was cannulated, and systolic arterial pressure (SAP), diastolic arterial pressure (DAP), heart rate (HR), and rectal temperature (RT) were observed during the procedure. The jugular vein also was cannulated, and the SAP was decreased by aspiration of 75% of blood through the jugular vein in the control (non resuscitated) and study (resuscitated) groups, whereas blood was not diminished in the sham group. The hemorrhagic shock was permitted to last 45 minutes; then, the study group rats were resuscitated with heparinized shed autologous whole blood (WB), normal saline (NS), Lactated Ringer's solution (LR), hydroxyethyl starch 6% (HES6), hydroxyethyl starch 10% (HES10), or dextran 40 (D40). Histopathologic evaluation was performed under light and electron microscope. Results: The RT, SAP, and DAP decreased, and HR increased significantly in the control and study groups during the shock period compared with those of sham group. After volume resuscitation, these parameters changed to preshock levels. Electron and light microscopic examinations of kidneys showed severe proximal tubular degeneration with moderate glomerular damage in the control group; moderate proximal tubular degeneration with mild glomerular damage in the NS, LR, HES6, and HES10 groups; and mild proximal tubular degeneration with no evidence of glomerular damage in the WB and D-40 groups. Conclusions: The characteristic ultrastructural features of hemorrhagic shock appear to be severe tubular degeneration and mild to moderate changes in glomeruli. Resuscitation of hemorrhagic shock with whole blood or dextran 40 solution appears to be most favorable therapy in preventing ultrastructural renal damage in rats.Öğe Expression of E-cadherin in squamous cell carcinomas of the cervix with correlations to clinicopathological features(I R O G Canada, Inc, 2005) Yaldiz, M; Hakverdi, AU; Bayhan, G; Akkus, ZObjective: To evaluate the expression of E-cadherin, a calcium-dependent cell adhesion molecule, in a retrospective analysis of paraffin-embedded tissue specimens of cervical squamous carcinoma and the relationship with histopathological differentiation and lymph node status. Methods: In this study, we investigated by immunohistochemistry E-cadherin expression in ten normal cervical epithelia and 24 cervical invasive squamous carcinomas. Results: Normal cervical squamous epithelium showed strong expression of E-cadherin at the membrane of the cell and intercellular junctions. In 24 tumors immunnostained by E-cadherin antibody, 11 (46%) showed preserved expression and 13 (54%) reduced expression. There was no significant correlation between E-cadherin expression and histological differentiation (p = 0.650, p = 0.294). In the status of lymph node metastasis, reduced expression of E-cadherin was seen in 11/15 (73%) with lymph node metastasis versus 2/9 (22%) without lymph node metastasis. There was a significant inverse correlation between E-cadherin expression and lymph node metastasis (p = 0.032). Conclusion: Reduced E-cadherin expression may be an important factor among a variety of biologic events that occur during the process of metastasis. However, this should be explored by a large scale study.Öğe Giant ethmoid osteoma with orbital extension presenting with epiphora(Int Rhinologic Soc, 2003) Osma, U; Yaldiz, M; Tekin, M; Topcu, IParanasal sinus osteoma is a slow-growing, benign, encapsulated bony tumour that may be commonly asymptomatic, being detected incidentally in 1% of plain sinus radiographs or in 3% sinus computerized tomographic scans. In a patient presenting with epiphora and nasal obstruction, computed tomography disclosed a giant osteoma of the ethmoid. In this article, one patient having giant ethmoidal osteoma with orbital extension is described, and epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, and pathological findings in paranasal sinus osteoma are reviewed.Öğe A histopathological evaluation of tissue reaction to stainless steel and titanium miniplate systems in bone(Medimond S R L, 1997) Unlu, G; Gulsun, B; Erol, B; Yaldiz, MTissue reaction to loaded stainless steel and titanium screws in bone was evaluated. These materials were implanted in each tibia of 12 rats. The animals were sacrificed at the 1(st), 3(rd) and 12(th) weeks and histopathological examination was performed. From the histological evidence obtained in this study there was no discernible difference in bone healing around stainless steel and titanium screws atl, 3 and 12 weeks after insertion.Öğe The management of lichen planus with low-molecular-weight heparin (enoxaparin)(Wiley, 2005) Akdeniz, S; Harman, M; Atmaca, S; Yaldiz, MThe aim of this study is to evaluate the efficiency of low-dose, low-molecular-weight heparin (enoxaparin) in the treatment of lichen planus (LP). Twenty-four patients clinically and histopathologically diagnosed as LP with intense pruritus were treated with 3 mg of enoxaparin (Clexane((R))), subcutaneously once a week for 4-14 weeks. Complete remission was observed in 20 of 24 patients (83%) who had widespread cutaneous involvement, but no or minimal effect was observed in four of 24 patients, three of whom had chronic hypertrophic LP. Low-dose enoxaparin was observed to be effective in the treatment of LP without any side-effects. Enoxaparin may be an effective and simple alternative therapy for LP.Öğe Mucinous tumors of the ovary(I R O G Canada, Inc, 2001) Yaldiz, M; Uzunlar, AK; Kilinç, N; Yalinkaya, A; Akkus, M; Tunik, SOvarian mucinous tumors stem from ovarian surface epithelium and are divided into benign, borderline and malignant. If is difficult to differentiate borderline and malignant mucinous tumors. Thirty-eight cases of ovarian mucinous tumors which were diagnosed at the Pathology Department of Dicle University Medical Faculty were reviewed. Of these, 18 (47.3%), six (15.7%) and 14 (36.8%) were benign, borderline and malignant. respectively. The patients' ages ranged from 18 to 67 (average 44.5) years. Bilaterality was detected in 1/18 (5.5%). 0/6 and 4/14 (28.5%) of benign, borderline and malignant mucinous tumors, respectively. Mean tumor size was 26.4 cm. Microscopically, there was no stratification in the benign tumors. The borderline tumors had papillary infoldings and 2-3 layers of atypical epithelial cells but no invasion of the stroma. Malignant tumors had four or more layers of atypical epithelial cells and stromal invasion.Öğe P53, c-erbB-2 expression and steroid hormone receptors in breast carcinoma(Imr Press, 2004) Kilinç, N; Yaldiz, MObjective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the p53 tumor suppressor gene, c-erbB-2 and steroid hormone receptor expression in breast carcinoma by immunohistochemistry and to correlate them with different histopathologic parameters. Materials and Methods: p53, c-erbB-2, steroid hormone receptors and their correlation with age, tumor size, histological grade, axillary lymph-node status, and menopausal status were investigated in 65 breast carcinoma cases. All markers were measured immunohistochemically on paraffin sections. Association between estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PgR), p53 and c-erbB-2 expression and clinicopathologic variables were assessed by the chi-square test for qualitative parameters. Results: c-erbB-2 staining was found in 35.3% of breast carcinomas and was associated with ductal subtype and age under 35 (p 0.022, p = 0.003, respectively); p53 staining was seen in 27.6% of cases and was associated with high histological grade and post-menapausal status (p = 0.038, p = 0.002, respectively). Progesterone receptor expression was associated with positive axillary status (p = 0.003). Conclusion: We concluded that expressions of c-erbB-2, p53, ER, and PgR may be used in the evaluation of breast carcinoma. Therefore the present study suggests that p53 expression is a marker of high histological grade in postmenopausal status, and that c-erbB-2 expression is associated with histologically ductal subtype.Öğe Partial lipodystrophy with hemithoracic atrophy(Blackwell Science Ltd, 2000) Akdeniz, S; Harman, M; Yaldiz, M; Nazaroglu, H; Gür, A[Abstract Not Available]Öğe Preauricular hydatid cyst: an unusual location for echinoccosis(Springer, 2004) Tekin, M; Osma, U; Yaldiz, M; Topcu, IHydatid disease is an important medical problem in countries of the temperate zones. A 21-year-old female patient was admitted to our outpatient clinics with a complaint of a progressive swelling in the left preauricular region. The case of the patient with hydatid disease that developed in the left preauricular region is presented in detail. Hydatid cyst in this location is rare.Öğe Primary gastric choriocarcinoma(I R O G Canada, Inc, 2000) Bayhan, G; Yaldiz, M; Yalinkaya, A; Kilinç, N; Gül, T; Erden, AC[Abstract Not Available]Öğe Primary squamous cell carcinoma of the stomach(Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2003) Dursun, M; Yaldiz, M; Isikdogan, A; Yilmaz, G; Canoruç, F; Örmeci, N; Yilmaz, SPrimary squamous cell carcinoma of the stomach is extremely rare. To date, only 80 cases have been reported. A 65-year-old man with complaints of epigastric pain and cachexia for the past year is presented. We report an additional case to 29 reported in the literature. A multiparous woman presented with a complaint of a gradually enlarging mass causing dyspareunia for the last seven months. The mass was originating from the upper part of the distal urethra with a relatively thin stalk covered by squamous epithelia, and immunohistopathological examination confirmed it as leiomyoma.Öğe Pyoderma gangrenosum in pregnancy(Wiley, 2002) Aytekin, S; Tarlan, N; Kalkanli, N; Yaldiz, M; Ünlü, G[Abstract Not Available]Öğe Strong association of HMB-45 expression with renal angiomyolipoma(Saudi Med J, 2004) Yaldiz, M; Kilinc, N; Ozdemir, EObjective: Angiomyolipoma (AML) is a benign neoplasm consisting of varying mixtures of smooth muscle, blood vessels and fat. Although, most of these tumors are easy to recognize, some may pose a diagnostic dilemma due to unusual histologic features. Recently, it was suggested that melanosome-associated protein (HMB-45) immunoreactivity may be used for diagnostic confirmation of several neoplasm. The aim of this study is to analyze the diagnostic efficacy of HMB-45 in patients with AML. Methods. This study was carried out at the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pathology, Dicle University, Diyarbakir, Turkey, during the period January 2000 to September 2003. HMB-45 immunoreactivity was analyzed in 6 patients with AML and in 34 patients with other renal and retroperitoneal pathologies, including 10 nephrectomized patients for non-neoplastic reasons by means of immunohistochemistry. Results: Patients with AML were positive for HMB-45. Whereas, HMB-45 immunoreactivity was negative in all of the histologic specimens from the patients with renal cell carcinoma, retroperitoneal sarcomas, Wilms' tumor, lipoma, leiomyoma, and nephrectomized kidneys of non-neoplastic reason. The association of AML with HMB-45 immunoreactivity was highly significant (p<0.001). Conclusion: Our findings suggest that HMB-45 may not be a melanocyte-restricted marker, and can be useful in differential diagnosis between AML and other tumors seen in kidney and retroperitoneal region.Öğe Survival and reproductive function after treatment of immature ovarian teratoma(I R O G Canada, Inc, 2001) Uzunlar, AK; Yalinkaya, A; Yaldiz, M; Kilinç, N; Gül, TWe conducted a clinical and pathologic review of nine patients with immature ovarian teratoma. The histologic grade of the tumor seemed to be a reliable indicator of prognosis. Low stage and low grade immature ovarian teratomas have an excellent prognosis. Platinum-based chemotherapy has been confirmed to be effective in the management of patients with ovarian germ cell tumors. Low grade pure ovarian immature teratoma is a potentially curable disease and a fertility-sparing surgical approach is possible,
