Öğe 6-Month Results of Transdiscal Biacuplasty on Patients with Discogenic Low Back Pain: Preliminary Findings(Ivyspring Int Publ, 2011) Karaman, Haktan; Tufek, Adnan; Kavak, Gonul Olmez; Kaya, Sedat; Yildirim, Zeynep Baysal; Uysal, Ersin; Celik, FeyziStudy Design: Prospective observational study. Objective: Our aim is to investigate the efficacy and safety of TransDiscal Biacuplasty. Summary of Background Data: Chronic discogenic pain is one of the leading causes of low back pain; however, the condition is not helped by most non-invasive methods. The results of major surgical operations for these patients are unsatisfactory. Recently, attention has shifted to disk heating methods for treatment. TransDiscal Biacuplasty is one of the minimally invasive treatment methods. The method was developed as an alternative to spinal surgical practices and Intradiscal Electrothermal Therapy for treatment of patients with chronic discogenic pain. Methods: The candidates for this study were patients with chronic discogenic pain that did not res pond to conservative treatment. The main criteria for inclusion were: the existence of axial low back pain present for 6 months; disc degeneration or internal disc disruption at a minimum of one level, and maximum of two levels, in MR imaging; and positive discography. Physical function was assessed using the Oswestry Disability Index when measuring the pain with VAS. Patient satisfaction was evaluated using a 4-grade scale. Follow-ups were made 1, 3, and 6 months after treatment. Results: 15 patients were treated at one or two levels. The mean patient age was 43.1 +/- 9.2 years. We found the mean symptom duration to be 40.5 +/- 45.7 months. At the sixth month, 57.1% of patients reported a 50% or more reduction in pain, while 78.6% of patients reported a reduction of at least two points in their VAS values. In the final check, 78.6% of patients reported a 10-point improvement in their Oswestry Disability scores compared to the initial values. No complications were observed in any of the patients. Conclusions: TransDiscal Biacuplasty is an effective and safe method.Öğe Age, growth and reproduction of the Shabut Barbus grypus (Cyprinidae) in Ataturk Dam Lake (Euphrates River), Turkey(Soc Francaise D Ichtyologie, 2008) Oymak, S. Ahmet; Dogan, Necmettin; Uysal, ErsinAge, growth and reproduction of 243 shabut Barbus grypus Heckel, 1843 in Ataturk Dam Lake in Turkey were studied from June 2004 to July 2005. The population was composed of 13 age classes. Age groups, 4-6 for females and 2-4 for males, were dominant. The total length and weight of the individuals ranged from 145 to 960 mm in length and from 40 g to 11kg respectively. The regression model fitted to the relation between length (FL) and weight (W) of fish was Log W = -4.6112 + 2.8835 Log FL (r(2) = 0.989) for females, and Log W = -4.8607 + 2.9679 Log FL (r(2) = 0.990) for males. The von Bertalanffy growth equations for females and males were found as Lt = 134.65 [1 - e(-0-10038) ((t + 1.85731))] for females and Lt = 106.77 [1 - e(-0-13649(t+ 1.095))] for males. The total observed sex ratio was: 1.34 (females/males). The spawning period extended from May to July. Aim: Our aim in the present study is to determine whether preoperative computed tomographic (CT) parameters have prognostic significance for the success of septoplasty. Material and Methods: Retrospective data from 61 patients in a secondary care hospital who had undergone septoplasty met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The effects of demographic and preoperative CT parameters (internal nasal valve [INV], external nasal valve area, angle of septal deviation, choana area, aperture pyriformis area, high septal deviation [HSD], transverse diameter of midnose, anterior/posterior deviation, concha and meatus diameter [superior, middle, inferior]) were studied in relation to the change in NOSE scores and the success of surgery. Results: Of the 61 patients studied, 31 were male (51%) aged 18-55 years with a mean age ± SD (26.59 ± 9.41). It was found that the changes in NOSE scores were significantly different from each other (P < 0.01). Male gender, trauma history, moderate septal deviation, HSD, mucosal pathology, posterior deviation, bullous turbinate (right and left middle, right superior), and in the absence of allergy, paradoxical turbinate (right and left middle and superior), S-shaped deviation were found to have a significant correlation in the change of NOSE scores (P < 0.05). Age and internal valve differed with respect to outcome (P < 0.05). Variables in multiple linear regresion models of all parameters were found to be insignificant (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Preoperative CT parameters are informative, but do not predict the postoperative success of septoplasty.Öğe Assessment of the incubation period for each sex of Turkish semiwild northern bald ibis (Geronticus eremita)(Turkiye Klinikleri, 2019) Kılıç, Ahmet; Uysal, ErsinThe semiwild population of Northern Bald Ibises (Geronticus eremita) at Birecik, Turkey, are the final representatives of the Eastern population of the species in the Middle East, apart from a few captive birds in Turkish zoos. This study took place between 2012 and 2015. Breeding is highly synchronized among the colony and incubation behavior was monitored for multiple nests throughout the day. Differences were found when incubation duty period was examined according to sex. In 2013, the incubation period varied significantly between males and females (F = 71.059, P < 0.001). The female incubated eggs for 178.42 min per day on average, while the male incubated for 233.69 min per day on average. A significant difference in incubation was determined between males and females (F = 91.260, P < 0.001) in 2014. Females sat on eggs for 188.06 min on average, while males sat on eggs for 244.13 min on average. In 2015 the incubation period varied significantly by sex, similar to previous years (F = 79.871, P < 0.001). The female incubated for 159.66 min in average, while the male incubated for 223.07 min on averageÖğe Biochemical and Histopathological Investigation of Resveratrol, Gliclazide, and Losartan Protective Effects on Renal Damage in a Diabetic Rat Model(Sci Printers & Publ Inc, 2015) Ezel, Tasdemir; Kocyigit, Yuksel; Deveci, Engin; Atamer, Yildiz; Sermet, Abdurrahman; Uysal, Ersin; Aktas, Ayfer[Abstract Not Available]Öğe Calvarial bone defects in ovariectomised rats treated with mesenchymal stem cells and demineralised freeze-dried bone allografts(Via Medica, 2020) Kadiroğlu, Ela Tules; Akbalık, Mehmet Erdem; Karaöz, Erdal; Kanay, Berna Ersöz; Dağ, Ahmet; Ketani, Muzaffer Aydın; Eroğlu, E. G.; Uysal, Ersin; Tuncer, Cudi M.Background: The aim of the study was to investigate the ability of a combination of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) with and without demineralised freeze-dried bone allografts (DFDBAs) to induce bone regeneration in calvarial defects in ovariectomised rats. Materials and methods: Critical size defects were filled with a combination of DFDBAs and BM-MSCs or BM-MSCs alone. Eight weeks after calvarial surgery, the rats were sacrificed. The samples were analysed histologically and immunohistochemically. Results: No difference was observed in vascularisation between groups C1 (animals with cranial defect only, control group) and O1 (animals with cranial defect only, ovariectomy group). Intramembranous ossification was observed at a limited level in groups C2 (animals with cranial defect with MSCs, control group) and O2 (animals with cranial defect with MSCs, ovariectomy group) compared to C1 and O1. In group C3 (animals with DFDBAs with MSCs, control group), the fibrous structures of the matrix became compact as a result of a bone graft having been placed in the cavity, but in group O3 (animals with DFDBAs with MSCs, ovariectomy group), the fibrous tissue was poorly distributed between the bone grafts for the most parts. Conclusions: We conclude that the insertion of BM-MSCs enhances bone healing; however, the DFDBA/BM-MSC combination has little effect on overcoming impaired bone formation in ovariectomised rats.Öğe Clinical evaluation of complications in implant-supported dentures: A 4-year retrospective study(International Scientific Information, Inc., 2017) Ülkü, Sabiha Zelal; Kaya, Filiz Acun; Uysal, Ersin; Gülsün, BelginBackground: Implants that can be used in the prosthetic rehabilitation of full and partial edentulous patients are now frequently used due to advances in dentistry. Despite advanced methods of applications, failures and complications can still be seen. The aim of our study was to evaluate clinical prosthetic values and complications that occurred during 4-year follow-up in implant-supported restorations. Material/Methods: This retrospective study included 40 patients who received oral rehabilitation with an implant-supported prosthesis. A total of 162 implants were placed: 99 in the maxilla and 63 in the mandible. The prosthetic and surgical data were recorded. Data including prosthetic complications and implant loss were recorded and statistically analyzed using Cox proportional hazard regression analysis. Results: In total, 159 implants (98.14%) survived, 3 implants (1.86%) failed, and 100% of the protheses were successful. There were 62 dental implants used as abutments for removable dentures and 97 for fixed dentures. The most frequent prosthetic complications after placement of an implant-supported prosthesis were loss of retention, mucositis, abutment screw loosening, and fracture. Patient satisfaction after prosthesis use was also evaluated, showing that satisfaction was systematically increased. Conclusions: To minimize the frequency of complications, protocols must be established from diagnosis to the completion of treatment and follow-up of implant-supported prostheses, especially in terms of adequate technical steps and careful radiographic evaluation of the components.Öğe Combining platelet rich fibrin with different bone graft materials: An experimental study on the histopathological and immunohistochemical aspects of bone healing(Churchill Livingstone, 2019) Karayurek, Fatih; Kadiroglu, Ela Tules; Nergiz, Yusuf; Akcay, Neslihan Coskun; Tunik, Selcuk; Kanay, Berna Ersoz; Uysal, ErsinAim: The current study was based on the hypothesis that the use of PRF with bone graft materials might increase bone regeneration and focus on the histopathological and immunohistochemical aspects following application of PRF with autogenous graft, xenograft and B-TCP in a rabbit model. Material and methods: This study was performed on the twenty-eight male New Zealand divided into four group. Two defects with a diameter 10 mm were opened in calvarium. After PRF preparation, right defects were evaluated as empty defect or graft group, and left defects were evaluated as PRF test group. All animals were sacrificed at the end of 8 weeks and specimens were examined histopathologically and immunohistochemically. Results: The most superior histopathological results were obtained in the autograft group. The combination of beta-TCP-PRF could not provide superiority over the beta-TCP group. The immunohistochemical results showed that, in the PRF/BTCP group, the expression of osteopontin and osteonectin was relatively higher compared to the only-BTCP group. Conclusion: In terms of new bone formation, autograft combined with PRF yielded superior results but the combination of beta-TCP-PRF had no effect compared to the only-BTCP group. However, further experimental and clinical studies might be beneficial to clarify the exact mechanism and results of combining PRF with bone grafts on bone healing process. The sample consisted of 841 randomly selected university students, 522 (62.1 per cent) males and 319 (37.9 per cent) females, aged 17-26 years (mean age, 21.91 +/- 1.92 years). A pre-tested questionnaire was used to assess the subjects' awareness of malocclusion and satisfaction with their personal dental appearance; the actual severity of malocclusion was determined using the Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI). Statistical analysis was carried out using chi-square for gender differences and Spearman rank-order correlation coefficients for awareness of malocclusion, satisfaction with personal dental appearance, and DAI scores. Analysis of variance and univariate analysis, with age and gender as the independent variables, were further used to analyse the data. Weak but statistically significant, negative, correlations were found between awareness of malocclusion and satisfaction at the following DAI scores: <= 25 (r = -0.264, P < 0.001), 26-30 (r = -0.381, P < 0.001), and >= 36 (r = -0.477, P < 0.001), and a statistically insignificant, negative correlation at a score of 31-35 (r = -0.102, P > 0.05). A statistically significant association was found between DAI and awareness of malocclusion (r = -0.305) and satisfaction with dental appearance (r = 0.234). There were no significant associations between the department in which the individuals studied and the investigated variables (P > 0.05). DAI scores were significantly higher for females. Generally, no statistically significant gender differences were found in relation to DAI scores, awareness, or satisfaction (P > 0.05). The findings of this study showed that age had a significant effect on satisfaction and gender on DAI score variation. Females had a greater need for normative treatment except in the 20- to 22-year-olds, and satisfaction decreased with age.Öğe Dental eğitim simülatörü ile entegre klinik uygulamalarının öğrencilerin beceri gelişimine etkilerinin ve geri dönüşüm çıktılarının değerlendirilmesi(Dicle Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi, 2018) Zengingül, Ali İhsan; Karadede, M. As a result of the pregnancy examination, the cows were divided into two main groups according to whether they were pregnant. The results showed that leucyl/cystinyl aminopeptidase (LNPEP) concentration was significantly decreased B-AI and Secreted frizzled-related proteins (SFRP-3), Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) and LNPEP levels were significantly decreased on day of AI, while PRL level was increased, and these data have prognostic significance as early indicator of the risk of potentially failed pregnancy. Additionally, a significant decrease in LNPEP, SFRP3, and VEGF levels, along with an increase in PRL levels was also observed in A-AI. These results suggest that these biomarkers can be used as a screening test to monitor the course of pregnancy. There were no significant differences in serum levels of Insulin-Like Growth Factor 2 (IGF-2), Tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMP-1), angiopoietin (ANG), Endoglin (ENG), Fibroblast growth factor (FGF), Inhibine-A (INH-A) and Transforming growth factors-beta 1 (TGF-beta 1) between the evaluated periods neither unsuccessful nor the successful pregnancy groups. This is the first study reporting that the maternal serum levels of LNPEP, SFRP3, VEGF, and PRL have important roles in pregnancy success and may indicate whether insemination outcome will be successful B-AI and predict the risk of unsuccessful pregnancy after AI in dairy cattle. The increase in such studies will allow the development of more specific, practical, and applicable markers.Öğe The effect of dietary supplementation of Nigella sativa L. on serum lipid profile in rats(Saudi Med J, 2009) Kocyigit, Yuksel; Atamer, Yildiz; Uysal, ErsinObjectives: To investigate the effect of oral treatment of Wistar albino rats with different doses of Nigella sativa L. (NS) powdered seeds on the levels of serum lipids. Methods: This study was performed in the Medical Science Application and Research Center of Dicle University, Diyarbakir, Turkey, from February 2003 to December 2008. A total of 75 Wistar albino male rats, 60 of them with NS supplementation and 15 animals acting as controls, were included in the study. The NS groups were divided into 4 main groups of 15 each. Four doses of NS were used (100, 200, 400, and 600mg/kg/day). Each dose group was further divided into 3 duration subgroups of 5 rats each, the feeding of NS seeds continued for one, 2, and 4 weeks. Control animals were divided into 3 main groups of 5 rats each. The rats were sacrificed at one, 2, and 4 weeks after feeding. Lipid parameters were measured. Results: Rats treated with the 400mg dose for one week's duration showed a significant increase in high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol levels. There was a significant decrease in low density lipoprotein-cholesterol levels after one week for 400 and 600mg doses, and all doses after 2 weeks and 4 weeks for 200 and 600mg doses when compared to control groups. There was a significant decrease in very low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol levels after one week for 200, 400, and 600mg doses, and all doses for 2 and 4 weeks. A 400mg dose for 2 weeks, and all doses for 4 weeks caused a significant decrease in triglyceride levels. There was a significant decrease of total cholesterol levels in all doses after 4 weeks of NS feeding. Conclusion: These results indicate that NS may a-meliorate the alteration in the lipid levels caused by diseases or toxic agents.Öğe Effect of nigella (Nigella sativa L.) seeds on hematological parameters in rats(Saudi Med J, 2009) Kocyigit, Yuksel; Atamer, Yidiz; Uysal, Ersin; Baran, Murat-Sedat[Abstract Not Available]Öğe The effect of restorative dentistry practices on the vital signs of healthy individuals(2021) Uysal, Ersin; Bakır, Elif Pınar; Bakır, Şeyhmus; Ünal, SamicanAim: Clinical applications of dentistry, the tools and drugs used increase the effects of anxiety and stress factors that we encounter before the treatment, but also cause changes in the life symptoms of the patients. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the effects of Restorative Dentistry applications on vital signs parameters such as blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature and oxygen saturation of healthy individuals before and after the interventional procedure. Material and Method: In the study, blood pressure, pulse rate, body temperature and oxygen saturation values of 100 patients without any systemic disease were measured before clinical applications. Following the treatment intervention, the same parameters were measured again and evaluated by comparing the previous and next values. Result: In the patients who were not applied local anesthesia, the post-treatment measurement values of the body temperature parameter were significantly higher than the initial measurement values (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the first and last measurement values of other parameters (p>0.05). In patients who were applied local anesthesia, the last measurement values of body temperature and systolic blood pressure were significantly lower than the initial measurement values (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the first and last measurement values of diastolic blood pressure and other parameters (p>0.05). Conclusion: We think that measures such as a relationship based on mutual trust, approaching expectations with understanding, informing about interventional procedures and operating consent processes will prevent patients from anxiety during the session and keep vital parameter values at a normal level.Öğe Effects of cypermethrin on serum biochemistry and liver histopathology of anabas testudineus(Islamic Azad University, 2024) Velmurugan, Babu; Satar, Elif İpek; Yolcu, Murat; Uysal, ErsinCypermethrin is one of the most commonly used pesticides. In this study, the effects of cypermethrin on serum biochemistry and liver histology of Anabas testudineus were investigated. The fish have been exposed to sub-lethal concentrations of cypermethrin for the 7th, 14th, and 21st days and one control was considered. AST, ALT, and ALP showed concentration-and days-dependent increases in all experimental groups. Bilirubin levels increased significantly (p<0.05) in cypermethrin groups. No statistically significant difference in bilirubin levels was observed between the concentrations of 0.015 and 0.030 mg L-1 on days 7th and 14th. Protein levels decreased in response to cypermethrin on all days when compared to controls. Statistically significant differences in protein levels weren’t observed between all concentrations on days 7th and 14th and between concentrations of 0.015 and 0.030 mg L-1 on days 21st. Light microscopy revealed hepatocyte hypertrophy, sinusoidal dilation, granular degeneration, congestion, pycnosis, and focal necrosis in the liver. AST ALT, ALP, bilirubin, protein levels, and histopathology can be used as possible markers for biological monitoring and chemical risk assessment in aquatic organisms. © 2024, Islamic Azad University. STUDY DESIGN: In this study 24 Sprague-Dawley male rats were divided into 4 subgroups: control group, torsion group, torsion-detorsion group, and Potentilla fulgens +torsion-detorsion group. The extract of Potentilla fulgens was intraperitoneally injected into the rats, 400 mg/kg for 5 days. The right testicle was exposed to torsion and detorsion for 2 hours with a 720 turn. The right testicle was dissected from the scrotum after the rats were anesthetized with ketamine hydroxide. Following fixation of 10% formaldehyde solution, routine tissue processing protocol was applied. Immunohistochemically slides were stained with TNF-alpha antibody. Apoptotic changes were examined using the TUNEL protocol. RESULTS: In this study seminiferous tubule diameter and depth of spermatic cells were compared among the experimental and control groups. Histopathologic examination shows that degeneration and disorganization of the spermatic cells and changes in tubule diameter were found to be statistically significant. In addition, histopathological examination of the apoptotic indices was scored using the TUNEL method. Immunohistochemically, TNF-a expression was positively observed in the ischemia and the ischemia-reperfusion groups. CONCLUSION: As a result of torsion and detorsion exposure, which led to damage in spermatic cells of seminiferous tubules, Potentilla fulgens was shown to decrease apoptotic development and was thought to be the cause of activation in spermatic cells.
