Öğe Age-related changes in the expression of ICAM-1 in the aorta of wistar albino rats(Soc Chilena Anatomia, 2016) Ketani, Sennur; Karakoç, Zelal; Ketani, M. Aydın; Kılınç, MehmetICAM-1 which is expressed by endothelial cells and leukocytes are observed as first markers in diseases such as transplant rejection, diabetes and atherosclerosis and in infections caused by various pathogens. In the present study, it is aimed to reveal the age-related changes in the expression of ICAM-1 on rats. Therefore, a total of 30 albino rats were taken at the age of 6, 18 and 24 months without gender discrimination. Rats were fed with standard pellet feed during the study. Afterwards, rats were sacrificed and tissue samples were collected from their rats, and the samples were evaluated under the light microscope by staining with immnunohistochemical method. It was determined that the expression of both aortic endothelial cells and endothelial cells in the media layer had been significantly increased based on the age.Öğe Comparative Morphometric Study of the Filiform Lingual Papilla in the Middle East Blind Mole Rat (Spalax ehrenbergi, Nehring, 1898) and Wistar Albino Rat(Soc Chilena Anatomia, 2017) Karakoc, Zelal; Ketani, Sennur; Ketani, M. Aydin; Kilinc, MehmetThis study aimed to reveal the morphometric differences between blind mole rats which live under ground and rats which live under laboratory conditions with regard to the length, base width, keratinization thickness and microscopic papilla depth. For this purpose, 7 adult blind mole rats and 7 adult Wistar albino rats were used in the study. All tongues were removed and fixed in 10 % neutral formalin. 4-5 micrometer of sections were obtained from paraffine sections which were obtained with routine histological follow ups and Crossman's modified triple staining was applied. While papilla length was found as 184.73 +/- 26.68 m m, base width 65.46 +/- 16.51 m m, keratinization thickness 11.60 +/- 1.37 m m, microscopic papilla depth 49.89 +/- 8.19 m m in blind rats; these values were found as 177.49 +/- 31.44 m m, 50.08 +/- 7.57 m m, 13.08 +/- 5.32 m m and 89.12 +/- 19.31 m m, respectively in rats. While a statistically significant difference was not detected between lengths (p> 0.05), the difference between papilla width was found significant (p< 0.05). While keratinization was found to be thicker on posterior side compared to anterior side in both species, a difference was not detected between keratinization thickness measurements (p> 0.05). The difference between two species with regard to papilla depth was detected to be significant (p< 0.001). The finding that papilla depth decreases as base width increases and the difference's being statistically significant suggested that living in different environments with different humidity could be effective on morphologic structures of the tongue in blind mole rats and rats.Öğe Dose-dependent effects of propofol on expression ICAM-1 in rabbit aorta endothelial cells(Academic Journals, 2009) Ketani, M. Aydin; Kanay, Berna Ersoez; Ketani, Sennur; Unver, Ozkan; Kilinc, MehmetThe dose-dependent effects of propofol on expression intracellular adhesion molecule (ICAM-1) in rabbit aorta endothelial cells was examined. Twenty adult New Zeland albino rabbits were used in this study. One control and three experimantal groups were designed. In experimantal groups; for group I propofol was not applied, group II 0.5, group III 4.0 and group IV 8.0 mg/kg propofol were applied to rabbits by marginal ear vein. One hour after applying propofol, control and experimantal group rabbits were sacrificed and their aorta were removed. The sections were stained with APAAP immunohistochemical staining for evaluation using a light microscope. This marked ICAM-1 immunoreactivity was maintained in 8.0 mg/kg of propofol applied to rabbits of aorta endothelium, whereas mild stain was observed for other experimantal groups. The present study indicated that there is parallel relationship between endothelial cells ICAM-1 expression and different doses of propofol.Öğe HISTOLOGICAL EXAMINATION OF THE EFFECTS OF LOW-LEVEL LASER THERAPY ON HEALING OF GINGIVA AFTER GINGIVECTOMY IN RATS(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2013) Firat, Ela Tules; Dag, Ahmet; Gunay, Ahmet; Kanay, Berna Ersoz; Ketani, Sennur; Ketani, M. AydinLasers in dentistry find an increasing usage in recent years. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on healing of gingiva after gingivectomy in rats. Forty-two male Wistar rats, 250 g to 300 g in weight, were used in this study. Gingivectomy was made to gingiva of mandibular incisors in all rats. The rats were divided into: group 1 (control group, non-irridated), and group 2 (experimental group, irridation-treated). After gingivectomy, a low-level laser therapy (LLLT) was applied to the side of the operation area. Treatment using a GaAlAs laser at a wavelength of 940 nm and a dose of 10 J/cm(2) began after surgery and was repeated on the 2nd, 4th and 6th day post-surgery. Seven animals from each group were sacrificed on the 7th, 14th and 21st day after surgery. Biopsies were performed for histological analysis. In the laser-treated grup, the histopathological findings revealed increased mitotic activity of fibroblasts and collogen synthesis on the 7th day, better formed epithelial layer, mild keratinization, collagen fibers and vascularization on day 14. On the 21st day after surgery, marked collagen fibers and vascularization was assesed according to the control group. The results of this study indicate that low-energy level laser therapy appeared to exert a positive effect in epithelization and wound healing after gingivectomy.Öğe Histological investigation of the impact of streptozotocin-induced experimental diabetes on the healthy gingivae of rats(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2014) Dag, Ahmet; Firat, Ela Tules; Uysal, Ersin; Ketani, Sennur; Ketani, Muzaffer AydinThis study was aimed at the histological investigation of the impact of experimental diabetes on the healthy gingiva of rats. Thirty male Wistar rats were used in this study. The animals were randomly divided into two groups (n = 15) prior to the experiment. Group 1 experimental diabetes was created by streptozotocin injection in 15 rats. Group 2 comprised the control group (15 rats). On the 7th, 14th and 21st days after the induction of diabetes by streptozotocin, five animals from each group were euthanized by cardiac puncture. The gingiva of the maxillary left first molar tooth of the sacrificed animals was extracted for histological examination. Histological examination demonstrated that, when compared to the control group, the diabetes group displayed marked hyperkeratosis and parakeratosis of the gingival epithelium on day 21 post-induction. Furthermore, the diabetes group presented with an increased number of inflammatory cells and vasodilatation of the capillaries, in comparison to the controls. The overall evaluation of the findings obtained in this study suggested that diabetes alone could cause changes in the periodontium and affect periodontal health.Öğe Prenatal and Postnatal Development of the Rat Choroid Plexus(Medwell Online, 2010) Kilinc, Mehmet; Deniz, Mustafa; Ketani, Sennur; Hatipoglu, E. SavasChoroid plexus found in brain ventricles makes up the blood brain barrier, secrets Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) and also preserves the homeostasis of CSF. With these functions, choroid plexus plays an important role in the growth and development of brain. Choroid plexus from the rat brain ventricles was investigated at ages from 14 days of gestation to 5 days after birth. On the 14th day of embryonic life, the structure of choroid plexus was observed. On the prenatal 18th day, it was found that the structure of choroid plexus was like the structure of choroid plexus seen after birth. The aim of our research is to assess different developmental characteristics choroid plexus with light microscope and to determine its histological structure.
