Öğe Coexisting of aortic arch variation of the left common carotid artery arising from brachiocephalic trunk and absence of the main branches of right subclavian artery: a review of the literature(Editura Acad Romane, 2010) Karabulut, Ozlen; Iltimur, Kenan; Tuncer, M. CudiThe variations in the aortic arch and its branches are of surgical interest. Many anomalies of the aortic arch and great vessels are uncovered as serendipitous findings on imaging studies, in the anatomy laboratory, or at surgery. A 56-year-old woman had an arch angiogram as part of an evaluation for cardiovascular disease. A two-vessel left aortic arch was identified consisting of the brachiocephalic trunk and left subclavian artery. In this study, we present a case of the left common carotid (LCC) artery arising from the brachiocephalic trunk (BT) and absence of the main branches of right subclavian artery in her angiographic imaging findings. There is no previous report about LCC artery arising from BT and absence of the main branches of right subclavian artery in the same person.Öğe Effects of Nicotine on Rat Alveolar Bone(Sci Printers & Publ Inc, 2016) Eratilla, Veysel; Uysal, Ibrahim; Ozevren, Huseyin; Uysal, Rojdan Ferman Gunes; Aktas, Elif Eratilla; Karabulut, Ozlen; Deveci, EnginOBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of nicotine on periodontal membranes and alveolar bone using histopathological and immunohistochemical methods. STUDY DESIGN: Rats were divided into 2 groups: those systemically treated with nicotine sulfate (2 mg/kg subcutaneously, daily) for 28 days, and untreated controls. We analyzed the distribution of osteonectin and osteopontin immunohistochemically, with antibodies, in the maxillary region. RESULTS: In the treatment group, resorption of alveolar bone and vascular dilation, bleeding, periodontal membrane degeneration, hyalinization, and necrosis were seen in some areas. Negative osteoblastic activity was observed in immunohistochemical analyses of collagen fibers in the periodontal membrane. CONCLUSION: In short- and long-term nicotine consumption, soft tissue and alveolar bone are negatively affected during cell proliferation. This phenomenon may lead to a delay in treatment of implantation.Öğe Effects of Potentilla Fulgens as a Prophylactic Agent in Testicular Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury(Sci Printers & Publ Inc, 2016) Karabulut, Ozlen; Kalkanli, Sevgi Tas; Deveci, Engin; Isen, Kenan; Uysal, Ersin; Soker, Ipek SevdaOBJECTIVE: To study the protective effects of Potentilla fulgens extract on damage of testicular tissue created by ischemia and reperfusion treatment via histopathological, immunohistochemical, and TUNEL experiments. STUDY DESIGN: In this study 24 Sprague-Dawley male rats were divided into 4 subgroups: control group, torsion group, torsion-detorsion group, and Potentilla fulgens +torsion-detorsion group. The extract of Potentilla fulgens was intraperitoneally injected into the rats, 400 mg/kg for 5 days. The right testicle was exposed to torsion and detorsion for 2 hours with a 720 turn. The right testicle was dissected from the scrotum after the rats were anesthetized with ketamine hydroxide. Following fixation of 10% formaldehyde solution, routine tissue processing protocol was applied. Immunohistochemically slides were stained with TNF-alpha antibody. Apoptotic changes were examined using the TUNEL protocol. RESULTS: In this study seminiferous tubule diameter and depth of spermatic cells were compared among the experimental and control groups. Histopathologic examination shows that degeneration and disorganization of the spermatic cells and changes in tubule diameter were found to be statistically significant. In addition, histopathological examination of the apoptotic indices was scored using the TUNEL method. Immunohistochemically, TNF-a expression was positively observed in the ischemia and the ischemia-reperfusion groups. CONCLUSION: As a result of torsion and detorsion exposure, which led to damage in spermatic cells of seminiferous tubules, Potentilla fulgens was shown to decrease apoptotic development and was thought to be the cause of activation in spermatic cells.Öğe Evaluation of the Singh index and Femur Geometry in Osteoporotic Women(Sciendo, 2010) Karabulut, Ozlen; Tuncer, Mehmet Cudi; Karabulut, Zulfu; Hatipoglu, Eyup Savas; Nazaroglu, Hasan; Akkus, ZekiWe aimed to compare the Singh index with bone mineral density (BMD) by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), body mass index (BMI) and femur geometry in the right proximal femur of osteoporotic women, using different statistical tests. Radiographs of each patient were assessed to determine the Singh index by five observers. The observers consisted of a consultant radiologist, physical therapist and anatomists who studied the series of radiographs. They were asked to apply the Singh index by comparing the trabecular bone pattern in the proximal right femur with the reference scale published by Singh et al. [1]. This has a six point scale from grade VI to grade I. We evaluated 47 osteoporotic women in this study. The subjects' mean age, weigth, and height were 63,21 +/- 10,106, 66,72 +/- 12.523, 154,94 +/- 7,026 respectively. We found a significant relationship between the Singh index and BMD. The Singh index correlated significantly with hip axis length, femoral neck diamater and trochanteric width. And, BMD correlated significantly with femoral head and neck diameter, femoral neck cortex width, medial calcar femoral cortex width and femoral shaft cortex width. The evaluation of the Singh index grades in its self, there was a significant relation among them.
