Öğe Determination of surface areas of active carbons by retention of ethylene glycol and ethylene glycol monoethyl ether(Marcel Dekker Inc, 1996) Guzel, FExperiments of ethylene glycol and ethylene glycol monoethyl ether retention on some active carbons were carried out to measure the surface areas of the carbons. Some differences were observed between nitrogen-specific surface area values and those obtained from ethylene glycol retention. However, since the differences decreased through an increase of surface oxygen content as a result of treatment of the carbons with H2O2, it was evident that ethylene glycol retention depended upon the surface oxygen content. Also, the surface area values obtained from retention of ethylene glycol monoethyl ether did not depend upon the surface oxygen content. Measurements of the ethylene glycol monoethyl ether retention process could be performed in a shorter time than the equivalent ethylene glycol retention measurements.Öğe The effect of surface acidity upon the adsorption capacities of activated carbons(Marcel Dekker Inc, 1996) Guzel, FIn this study the effects of the surface acidity of adsorbents on adsorption from solution are investigated. For this purpose, methylene blue (cationic) and metanil yellow (anionic) adsorbates, which have opposite ionic characters, are used. At 298 K, the values of surface acidity indicate that methylene blue molecules occur on the surface at a greater probability than those of metanil yellow. That is, metanil yellow molecules are repulsed from the surface and methylene blue molecules are attracted to the surface.Öğe Investigation of adsorption isotherms used for wool dyeing by aqueous extraction of cehri fruit (Fructus Rhamni Petiolari) and dyeing of wool and silk accompanied by various mordants(Scientific Technical Research Council Turkey, 1996) Aydin, AH; Guzel, F; Tez, ZIn this study, adsorption isotherms were obtained by processing wool with dyestuff solutions of different concentrations extracted from cehri fruit with water. These isotherms follow the Nernst equation; the Nernst constant was determined and interpreted. In addition, wool and silk fibres were dyed with the same dyestuff solution and various mordants. Colours having a high fastness which could be used on an industrial scale were produced.Öğe Preparation and characterization of polyoxometallates of molybdenum, tungsten and their salts(Marcel Dekker Inc, 1997) Akba, O; Guzel, F; Yurdakoc, K; Gumgum, B; Tez, ZIn this work, confirmation of the molecular formula and investigation of the structural stability of the prepared various types of heteropoly acids and their salts by TGA are reported. Specific surface areas of the samples were determined by the BET-single point N-2 adsorption method. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used for the of surface topography of the samples in the sense of crystalline and amorphous states and the acidities of these solid samples were determined based on the color changes of suitable indicator solutions by the way of a butylamine titration method. Impurities, weight ratios and bonding states of the characteristic elements of the samples were determined from XRD, EDX and FTIR studies.
