Öğe Biological activities and phytochemical investigation of some Sideritis species(National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research, 2024) Eruygur, Nuraniye; Kırcı, Damla; Ayaz, Fatma; Bağcı, Yavuz; Doğu, Süleyman; Yılmaz, Mustafa AbdullahOne of the most generally used plants for herbal tea is Sideritis L. species (Lamiaceae) which is commonly grown in the Mediterranean region and represented by 46 species and 53 taxa in Türkiye. Sideritis species are widely used in Türkiye due to their antispasmodic, antirheumatic, anti-inflammatory, and diuretic activities. In the present research, the effects against oxidative stress, and enzyme activitiy, as well as chemical compositions of the water and methanol extracts of seven Sideritis species (S. bilgeriana P.H. Davis), S. brevidens P.H. Davis, S. cilicica Boiss. & Balansa, S. erythrantha Boiss. & Heldr., subsp. cedretorum P. H. Davis, S. hololeuca Boiss. & Heldr., S. libanotica Labill. subsp. linearis (Benth.) Bornm., and S. libanotica Labill. subsp. violascens P. H. Davis.). Its main objective was to assess the suppression of five enzymes, tyrosinase, α-glucosidase, α-amylase, acetylcholinesterase (AChE), and butyrylcholinesterase, for the water and methanol extracts of seven different Sideritis species. The extracts were also assessed for antioxidant effects using various spectrophotometric methods involving DPPH,ABTS·+, and iron chelating, as well as the determination of total phenol and flavonoid amounts. As for the phytochemical investigation on Sideritis species, the phenolic compounds of the extracts were determined by LC-MS/MS analysis. Because of the LC-MS/MS analysis, Hierarchical Cluster Analysis was performed on four major components: quinic acid, chlorogenic acid, fumaric acid, and acacetin in the present work. As a result, our research indicates that Sideritis species, particularly S. cilicica, S. erythrantha, and S. libanotica subsp. linearis, deserve to be examined afterwards for their active secondary metabolites, which are thought to be responsible for their potential biological activities. Furthermore, the composition of extracts of Sideritis species was statistically analysed using the principal component.Öğe Phytochemical analysis, antioxidant, and enzyme inhibition activity of five Salvia taxa from Turkey(Elsevier, 2023) Yilmaz, Gulderen; Eruygur, Nuraniye; Bona, Gulnur Eksi; Bona, Mehmet; Akdeniz, Mehmet; Yilmaz, Mustafa Abdullah; Ertas, AbdulselamSalvia L. species are widely used for treatment of different disorders in traditional Turkish medicine. In this study, the methanol extracts of five Salvia taxa, including S. aucheri subsp. canescens, S. aytachii, S. heldreichiana, S. viridis, and S. wiedemannii were investigated for their antioxidant activity and enzyme inhibitory potentials which are related with health-benefit properties. In addition, total phenolic and flavonoid contents were determined with Folin- Ciocalteu and aluminum chloride spectrophotometric method, respectively. Screening of enzyme inhibition activity was performed out using ELISA microplate reader. Antioxidant activity was evaluated by 2,2'-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2' -Azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging and iron chelating tests. The S. aytachii extract was found with highest total phenol content (77.82 +/- 1.76 mg PE/mg) and total flavonoid content (22.33 +/- 0.17mg QE/mg) as dry weight basis. These findings specify that the investigated Salvia taxa for anticholinesterase activity can be appealed further phytochemical estimation for spotting its active components. (c) 2022 SAAB. Aiton: a promising plant from Turkey(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2024) Eruygur, Nuraniye; Tuzcu, Nevin; Tugay, Osman; Yılmaz, Mustafa Abdullah; Çakır, OğuzThe methanol extract of Inula viscosa (IVM) was investigated for its antioxidant potential using the DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging as well as iron chelating assays (ICA). The total phenol (TPC) and flavonoid contents (TFC) of IVM were determined using the Folin-Ciocalteu and aluminum trichloride methods, respectively. Antimicrobial activity of different concentrations of I. viscosa methanol extract was investigated by disc diffusion and broth microdilution method. The IVM extract was found to be containing TPC (236.78 +/- 7.63 mg GAE/g) and TFC (94.36 +/- 1.86 mg QE/g). Antioxidant activity IC50 values for the DPPH, ABTS and ICA assays were found to be 277.7 +/- 3.68, 2.44 +/- 0.02, and 222.1 +/- 0.71 mu g/mL, respectively. The MIC values of the IVM on the tested microorganisms ranged from 0.48 to 7.81 mg/mL. Furthermore, IVM extract was demonstrated 18.32 +/- 1.37%, 23.06 +/- 1.05%, 4.72 +/- 0.13%, 15.13 +/- 0.37% and 37.64 +/- 4.02% inhibition against tyrosinase, alpha-amylase, alpha-glucosidase, AChE and BChE, respectively. In the results of LC-MS/MS analysis, acacetin, quercetin, chlorogenic acid and protocatechuic acid were determined as most dominant compounds. These findings suggested that this plant may be a natural resource for creating novel medicinal compounds.Öğe Phytochemical profiling and biological activity of Achillea sintenisii Hub.-Mor(John Wiley and Sons Inc., 2023) Eruygur, Nuraniye; Büyükyıldırım, Tuğsen; Rama, Şeyma Tetik; Ayaz, Fatma; Tekin, Mehmet; Tuzcu, Mehmet; Yılmaz, Mustafa AbdullahAchillea (Asteraceae) species have been traditionally used for their different therapeutical properties. In this study, phytochemical composition of aerial parts of A. sintenisii which is endemic in Turkey was determined with Liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS). To evaluate the wound healing potential, the cream formulation prepared from A. sintenisii was tested on the linear incision wound model in mice. In vitro enzyme inhibitory activity tests were performed on elastase, hyaluronidase, and collagenase. In the histopathological examination, angiogenesis and granulation tissue formation were significantly increased in A. sintenisii treatment groups compared to the negative control group. As a result of this study, it is thought that the enzyme inhibition and antioxidant activity of the plant may contribute to the wound healing process. According to LC/MS/MS analysis result, quinic acid (24.261 μg/mg extract) and chlorogenic acid (14.97 μg/mg extract) were identified as main constituents of the extract.
