Öğe An assessment of the implementation of new science and technology curriculum(Hacettepe Univ, 2007) Goemleksiz, Mehmet Nuri; Bulut, IlhamiThe aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the new primary school Science and Technology curriculum in practice based on teachers' opinions. For that aim, a 32 item Likert style Science and Technology Curriculum Scale was developed. The population includes 383 classroom teachers working at 64 pilot schools where the new Science and Technology Curriculum was trialled in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Kocaeli, Van, Hatay, Samsun and Bolu cities. The data were analyzed by using independent samples t test, one way ANOVA, Kruskall Wallis H, Mann Whitney U and LSD tests. According to the results obtained from the study, it was determined that the learning attainments, content, teaching-learning activities and evaluation were effective at much level. While statistically significant difference was found among the teachers' views in terms of city variable, no significant difference was found in terms of student number variable.Öğe An evaluation of the effectiveness of the new primary school mathematics curriculum in practice(Edam, 2007) Gomleksiz, Mehmet Nuri; Bulut, IlhamiThe aim of this study is to determine and compare the views of primary school teachers on the implementation and effectiveness of the new primary school mathematics curriculum. For that aim, a 32-item Likert-type Mathematics Curriculum Scale was developed. The reliability of the scale was tested through Cronbach Alpha (.98), Spearman-Brown (.93) and Guttman split half (.93) and the scale was found to be reliable. The scale includes four sub-scales. The population includes 792 classroom teachers working in 64 pilot schools where the new primary school mathematics curriculum was in trail in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Kocaeli, Van, Hatay, Samsun, and Bolu. The data were analyzed in terms of city, classroom, gender, reaching experience, education level, and student number variables. Independent samples t-test, Kruskal Wallis H test, variance analysis, Mann Whitney U, Scheffe, and LSD tests were used to analyze the data. Statistically significant differences were found between the views of the teachers in terms of city, classroom, gender and student number variables. It was determined that the learning attainments, content and teaching-learning activities in the new mathematics curriculum were found to be effective by the teachers. But the evaluation part of the new curriculum was not found to be effective in practice. Teachers are advised to have systematic and effective in-service seminars to learn and use the evaluation techniques aimed at the new primary school mathematics curriculum.Öğe Examination of the Relationship between Classroom Teachers' Multiple Intelligence Areas and Their Students' Academic Achievements(Kamla-Raj Enterprises, 2015) Sutcu, Nese Dokumaci; Sutcu, Kerem; Bulut, IlhamiThe purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between multiple intelligence areas of 4th and 5th grade teachers and the grade point averages of their students in Turkish, mathematics, science and technology and social studies courses. The research sample consists of 81 classroom teachers who worked in primary schools in the central districts of Diyarbakir during the 2011-2012 academic year. In this research, single and relational survey models were used. In the analysis of the data obtained from this study, Descriptive Statistics, Independent Sample t-test and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient were used. The findings of the study, suggest that there was no statistically significant difference between the classroom teachers' average scores of verbal-linguistic, visual-spatial, naturalistic, musical, logical-mathematical, intrapersonal, interpersonal and bodily-kinesthetic intelligence areas in terms of the gender and grade level variables.Öğe A study on the effectiveness of the implementation of elementary 6th grade Turkish course curriculum(Sila Science, 2012) Bulut, IlhamiThis study aimed to test the effectiveness of the implementation of elementary 6th grade Turkish curriculum based on teacher views. The data collection instruments in the study were the 33-item five-point Likert type Turkish Course Curriculum Scale developed by Bulut (2006) and the 10-item three-point Likert type Scale for Variables Affecting the Learning Process. The study group comprised a total of 146 Turkish teachers from 49 elementary schools located in the center of Diyarbakir, where elementary 6th grade Turkish Course Curriculum was being followed. Data obtained from these teachers were analyzed by using t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Kruskal Wallis H and Scheffe test. The results showed that the views of Turkish teachers about the overall curriculum did not vary significantly with respect to gender, seniority and class size.Öğe Turkish Undergraduate Veterinary Students' Attitudes to Use of Animals and Other Teaching Alternatives for Learning Anatomy(Univ Toronto Press Inc, 2019) Kucukaslan, Ozgul; Erdogan, Serkan; Bulut, IlhamiThis study aimed to investigate the views of first-year veterinary students in Turkey from six veterinary faculties on their anatomy courses and to evaluate their perceptions of the uses of animals and other teaching alternatives from an ethical perspective. The study sample included a total of 293 veterinary students studying in the provinces of Ankara, Burdur, Diyarbakr, Kars, Konya, and Tekirda. The 38-item instrument tool developed by the researchers consisted of three sections and was administered to volunteer student participants. All the data were statistically analyzed, and normal distribution of the scores obtained in the attitude scales was determined using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov Z test (KSZ). The 20 items in the Anatomy Scale had an arithmetic mean of 3.48 and thus indicated an average rating of agree. The most challenging topic was found by 40.9% to be the nervous system. The most useful material in facilitating the learning process was rated by 24.1% to be the anatomy book. The 11 items in the Cadaver Scale had an arithmetic mean of 3.77, indicating an average rating of agree. The highest arithmetic mean score was for the item Using cadavers is a must for the anatomy course with a mean of 4.66, indicating their strong agreement with this view. The veterinary students' perspective emphasized that the combination of cadavers and the anatomy book contributed to their learning of anatomy.Öğe Views of Middle Graders toward the Concept of Tolerance(Kamla-Raj Enterprises, 2016) Bulut, Ilhami; Arslan, SeyfettinThe aim of this study was to determine the views of secondary school students on the concept of tolerance. For this purpose the researchers developed a 3-point Likert type Tolerance Scale (TS) with 26 items. The TS was administered as a questionnaire to 476 students from five secondary schools within Diyarbakir in the 2011-2012 academic year. Data was also analyzed in terms of grade level and gender variables. The results show that students consider the role of family to be important in the upbringing of tolerant people. They think that their parents value themselves and also indicate that they value other people's feelings and thoughts. They hold that the role of education, especially teachers, family, religious and social environment is important for raising tolerant people. The study provides further evidence that teachers can create good examples and assist the upbringing of tolerant people by applying democratic attitudes and behaviors in the classroom.
