Methodology: An electronic survey consisting of three sections and 45 questions was taken to the dentists. The first section included the personal data of the dentists, the second section consisted of their level of knowledge about CAN, and the third section included the questions to assess their attitudes about CAN. Results: The dentists taking part in the study were asked 27 questions in order to assess their knowledge level about CAN, and the mean score was determined 20,51 (64%), while the maximum score the participants could get was 32. The mean values for knowledge level about CAN were found to be significantly higher for women than men, for university hospital employees than private clinic employees, for attending physicians than non-attending, for pediatric dentistry than oral diagnosis and radiology, periodontology, prosthodontics, orthodontics, and endodontics specialists, for those with undergraduate and postgraduate education than those without education, and finally for those having received postgraduate education in vocational continuing training than those educated in PhD/career education. Conclusion: Dentistry is of the utmost importance to detect, prevent, and report this issue. As can be realized in the results of our study, this issue is not addressed strongly enough. Therefore, it is suggested that CAN should be included in the dentistry undergraduate, career, and doctorate educations, as well as in the continuing vocational educations.Öğe Autotransplantation of an Intruded Lateral Incisor Replacing an Avulsed Central Incisor-A Case Report(Journal Pedodontics Inc, 2009) Bolgul, Behiye Sezgin; Agackiran, Engin; Celenk, Sema; Ayna, BuketOral injuries cause aesthetic, psychological, social, and therapeutic problems and also effect a large number of people, causing irreparable dental loss not only at the accident time but also during post-treatment. Bu derlemede; kötü prognozlu daimi birinci büyük azı dişlerinin kontrollü çekim prosedürleri anlatılarak, ideal oklüzyonu sağlamak için gerekli olan faktörler belirtilmiştirÖğe Comparison of the clinical efficacy of two different types of post systems which were restored with composite restorations(Baishideng Publishing Group Inc, 2018) Ayna, Buket; Ayna, Emrah; Celenk, Sema; Basaran, Emine Goncu; Yilmaz, Berivan Dundar; Tacir, Ibrahim Halil; Tuncer, Mehmet CudiAIM To compare the efficacy of resin composite restorations, retained with either polyethylene or zirconia-rich glass fiber posts. METHODS Sixty-two single rooted maxillary and mandibular central incisor teeth in forty-four patients (15 males and 29 females; age range 15-32 years) were restored either with an ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWP) fiber post (Bondable Reinforcement Ribbon, DENSE, Ribbond, Seattle, WA, United States) or a zircon-rich glass fiber post (Snowpost, Lot H 040; Carbotech, Ganges, France). Then, direct resin composite restoration (Clearfil AP-X, Kuraray) was performed for both post systems in tooth color suitable. Patients were recalled for routine inspections at 6 mo, 1, 2 and 3 years. RESULTS The restorations were assessed during each recall evaluation according to predetermined clinical and radiographic criteria (periapical lesion; marginal leakage and integrity; color stability; surface stain and loss of retention of the post or the composite buildup material). The follow-up data showed no significant difference in these criteria between polyethylene fibre posts and zirconia-rich glass fibre posts. CONCLUSION The efficacy of resin composite restorations, retained with either polyethylene or zirconia-rich glass fiber posts were similar, suggesting that both types of fiber post can be used successfully to help retain resin composite restorations.Öğe Effect of Different Esthetic Post-Core Materials on Color of Direct-Composite Restorations: A Preliminary Clinical Study(Int Scientific Literature, Inc, 2018) Ayna, Buket; Yilmaz, Berivan D.; Izol, Bozan S.; Ayna, Emrah; Tacir, Ibrahim HalilBackground: The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of 2 different esthetic post materials on the final color of direct-composite restorations by using a digital technique under in vivo conditions. Material/Methods: We included 22 pulpless incisor teeth treated with conventionally cemented zirconia (n=11) and polyethylene fiber (n=11) posts in the study. Teeth were restored with a hybrid resin. The color of direct-composite restorations and contralateral control teeth was measured using a digital technique. The Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage, or CIE, L*a*b* and RGB color systems were investigated. Descriptive statistical analysis was performed for the CIE L*a*b* values. Color differences (DE) for the average L*,a*,and b* color parameters between every pair of groups were calculated (P>.05). Results: Significant differences were not found in the color difference luminosity (lum), R, G, B, and L* a* b* values between the zircon-rich glass fiber post (Z) and contralateral control teeth (Cz) (P>.05) and between the polyethylene fiber post (P) and contralateral control teeth (Cp) (P>.05). However, there was a statistically significant difference between the color a* values of the polyethylene fiber post (P) and contralateral control teeth (Cp) (p<0.05). Color differences (DE) between the zircon-rich glass fiber post (Z) and contralateral control teeth, and the polyethylene fiber post (P) and contralateral teeth were not statistically significant (P>.05). Conclusions: Definitive restorations were equally affected by the 2 materials. Both materials can be used reliably in clinical practice. However, further research that focuses on the effect of intraoral conditions is needed.Öğe Endodontic and prosthetic treatment of teeth with periapical lesions in a 16-year-old-girl(Univ Sao Paulo Fac Odontologia Bauru, 2010) Ayna, Buket; Ayna, Emrah; Celenk, SemaThis paper reports the nonsurgical endodontic therapy using calcium hydroxide intracanal dressing and prosthetic treatment of 9 teeth with periapical lesions in a 16-year-old female patient. The periodontal treatment plan included oral hygiene instructions, mechanical debridement and gingivectomy in the maxillary incisors to improve gingival contouring. Root canal treatment was indicated for teeth 11-13, 21, 22, 42-45. After successive changes of a calcium hydroxide intracanal dressing during 6 weeks, the size of the periapical radiolucencies decreased and lesion remission occurred after root canal obturation. The endodontically treated teeth received a bondable polyethylene reinforcement fiber (Ribbond) in the prepared canal space and crown buildup was done with composite resin. Prosthetic rehabilitation was planned with single-unit metal-ceramic crowns and fixed partial dentures. Clinical and radiographic evaluation after 6 months showed successful results. The outcomes of this case showed that chronic periapical lesions can respond favorably to nonsurgical endodontic treatment in adolescent patients and that, with proper indication, polyethylene fibers can provide an effective conservative and esthetic option for reinforcing endodontically treated teeth undergoing prosthetic rehabilitation.Öğe Evaluation of parents' attitudes and behaviors towards products and practices containing fluoride(Dicle Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi, 2024) Durmaz, Çetin; Ayna, Buket; Polat, YeldaAims: The aim of this study was to evaluate parents’ attitudes and behaviors about fluoride-containing products and practices. Methods: The study was conducted between April 2023 and February 2024. Parents of children who applied to Dicle University Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Pediatric Dentistry voluntarily participated in the study and a total of 350 parents participated. A face-to-face questionnaire consisting of 2 sections and a total of 26 questions was administered to the parents. Results: Among the parents who participated in our study, 56.86% stated that they had never heard of fluoride before. Those who had heard of fluoride stated that they had heard about it from school screenings and dentists. 16.86% of the parents stated that fluoride is harmful, but 68% of them did not have any information about it. 78.8% of the parents stated that they did not know the effect of brushing teeth with fluoride toothpaste on the prevention of dental caries and 76.57% stated that they did not look at the fluoride content when choosing toothpaste. 84% of the parents stated that they did not know the fluoride applications made by the physician and 74.57% stated that they would not have their children do it. The vast majority of those who would not have their children fluoridated (73.95%) stated that they would not do so because they did not have information about fluoride. We found that 92% of the parents did not know systemic fluoride applications, 90% did not know whether the drinking water they used contained fluoride, and 93.43% did not know whether fluoride in drinking water helps prevent dental caries formation. Conclusion: Considering the high caries risk and oral hygiene deficiencies in our country, the need to use fluoride in dental treatments is increasing. Therefore, the public’s lack of knowledge and concerns about fluoride should be addressed and the use of preventive treatments such as fluoride should be increased.Öğe Evaluation of Stress Distribution in Root Canal Treated Maxillary Incisors Treated with Different Fiber-Reinforced Composite Resins by Finite Element Analysis(Harran University, 2023) Uzel, Özge Sönmez; Ayna, BuketObjective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the stress caused by different fiber reinforced composite resin (FRCR) restorations under functional forces in tooth models with two different types of horizontal and oblique fractures in the maxillary incisor using finite element analysis (FEA) method. Materials and Methods: A maxillary incisor with complete root development was scanned in a microcomputed tomography device. With the information obtained, two different groups with horizontal and oblique fractures were formed by creating a maxillary incisor model with three-dimensional root development. Based on the sample model, root canal treatment was performed, horizontal and oblique fracture lines were created, maxillary incisor models were restored with different FRCR and simulated in three dimensions. Then, the stresses occurring in the teeth under functional force were evaluated with the FEA method. Results: In models using FRCR, the stresses on the cervical region of root dentin and restorative material were reduced. When all models were examined, the highest stress values in both the cervical region of root dentin and the restorative material were observed in models using only composite resin. The lowest stress values were observed in the models using prefabricated long glass fiber post. It was observed that the stresses occurring in the models with the horizontal fracture line were higher than the models with the oblique fracture line. Conclusion: The use of FGKR in teeth with crown fractures will help reduce both the stresses in the cervical region of root dentin and the stresses on the restorative material. Models restored with FGKR created less stress and strengthened the tooth structure more.Öğe Evaluation of the Dental Avulsion Knowledge Levels of Physicians Working in the Emergency Departments of Hospitals(2023) Eskibağlar, Büşra Karaağaç; Kılınç, Elif; Ayna, BuketObjective: The aim of this study is to determine the dental avulsion knowledge levels of physicians from all specialties working in the emergency departments of hospitals, to evaluate their attitudes and behaviors, and to increase their awareness of the subject of dental avulsion through the information brochure given at the end of the survey. Two mesiodistal cuts of each tooth were photographed under a stereomicroscope equipped with a digital camera. The dye-infiltrated surface area was measured. Results: Statistical evaluations were performed by one-way analysis of variance [ANOVA]. One-way ANOVA showed no significant difference between the three groups in microleakage (P = 0.07). However, the lowest microleakage ratio was seen in Group C (EQUIA Fil). Similar results were obtained with all tested materials, but the lowest microleakage rate was obtained with EQUIA Fil (Group C). Conclusion: In this study, the tested materials were not completely successful in eliminating microleakage, although the lowest microleakage rate was obtained with EQUIA Fil.Öğe THE DECORONATION TECHNIQUE IN THE TREATMENT OF ANKYLOSIS(Mesut TUZLALI, 2019) Ayna, Buket; Çelenk, SemaAvulsion is one of the most severe type of dental injuries in permanent teeth. The time of replantation is main determinant of the treatment prognosis. When the periodontal ligament is damaged in the permanent teeth after trauma, the repair process may result in ankylosis. Ankylosis interferes with the vertical growth of the alveolar process, which can lead to an open bite, an unesthetic smile, infraocclusion of anklosed tooth, tilting of the adjacent teeth, elongation of antagonist teeth, and occlusal disharmony. Removal of an ankylosed tooth may be difficult and traumatic leading to esthetic and functional problems for young patients. Recently a treatment option for ankylosed teeth named ‘decoronation’ has gained interest. In this article, in terms of prosthetic rehabilitation which can be done later, recent literature on decoronation demonstrating its importance and clinical benefits has been reviewed.Öğe Travmatik diş yaralanmalarında ilkokul öğretmenlerinin bilgi düzeyleri ve tutumlarının belirlenmesi ve öğretmenlere verilen öğretici broşürün etkisinin değerlendirilmesi(Yeditepe Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi, 2017) Şimşek, İbrahim; Ayna, Buket; Uysal, ErsinAmaç: Diyarbakır ilinde görev yapan ilkokul öğretmenlerinin travmatik diş yaralanmaları (TDY) karşısındaki tutumlarının ve kişisel tecrübelerinin değerlendirilmesi, bilgi düzeylerinin ölçülmesi ve hazırlanan öğretici broşürlerle, öğretmenlere diş yaralanmalarının ardından yapacakları ilk müdahalelerle dişin iyileşme sürecine katkı sağlayabilecekleri bilincinin yerleştirilmesidir.
