Öğe Association of demodicosis with acne rosacea(2010) Tas Cengiz Z.; Yilmaz H.; Akdeniz N.; Çiçek M.; Özkol H.; Çalka O.Objectives: Demodex spp of humans are encountered frequently all over the world. The role of these parasites is controversial in the causation of skin diseases. This study was carried out to determine the prevalence and the association of Demodex spp with acne rosacea. Methodology: The study was conducted between the years of 2005-2008 in the output clinic of Dermatology and Parasitology Laboratory of Health Research and Training Hospital of Yüzüncü Yil University. One hundred two patients (patient group) composing of 59 females and 43 males with acne rosacea and randomly selected 50 healthy subjects (control group) were examined for Demodex spp. Twenty seven patients were under the age of 35, and 75 patients were aging 35 years old and over. Samples were plucked out from surface of nose and forehead of patients with acne rosacea and healthy subjects by standardized surface skin biopsy (SSSB) method in the Laboratory. The preparations prepared in Hoyer solution were examined under 4X and 10X objectives of light microscope. Results: The detected parasites were higher in the patient group with acne rosacea (67.65%) than the control group (6%), in females (76.27%) than males (55.81%) and in patients aging 35 years old and over (74.67%) than the patients under 35 years of age (48.15%). Significant relationships were detected between acne rosacea and demodicosis, sex and demodicosis, and age and demodicosis (p<0.001, p<0.05 and p<0.05, respectively). Conclusion: It was concluded that there is a relationship between the demodicosis and acne rosacea, and dermatologists should take into consideration the Demodex spp. in the etiology of acne rosacea.Öğe A comparison of treatment modalities in 69 patients with endometriosis and/or endometrioma and review of the literature(OrtadogŸu Reklam Tanitim Yayincilik Turizm Egitim Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S., 2015) Ağaçayak Elif; Akdeniz N.; Sak S.; Palanci Y.Objective: Treatment of endometriosis and/or endometrioma are much disscussed subject nowadays. In this study, our aim; was to compare treatment methods laparoscopy, laparotomy and combined treatment (surgery+medical) applied at our clinic of endometriosis and/or endometrioma with current literature knowledge, following postoperative pregnancy, pain, recurrence and CA-125 level. Material and Methods: A total of 69 patients who had endometriosis and/or endometrioma was observed intraoperatively and patients who had been referred with a diagnosis of chronic pelvic pain, infertility or endometrioma to Dicle University Faculty of Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology Department between June 2006 and June 2008 were included in the study. Data were obtained retrospectively scanning hospital records. Treatment to patients in our clinic were recorded. Pre-treatment and post-treatment pain history, levels of CA-125, CA15-3, CA19-9, history of infertility and ultrasonographics findings were recorded. Post-treatment outcomes relevant to pregnancy were determined. Among those who had become pregnant after treatment, the rates of spontaneous pregnancies, pregnancies due to ovulation induction and those due to IVF (in vitro fertilization) were determined. Results: Among 69 patients presenting to our outpatient clinic with complaints of chronic pelvic pain, infertility and endometrioma who were diagnosed with endometriosis and/or endometrioma intraoperatively, 40 underwent laparoscopy, 16 underwent laparotomy and 13 received combined treatment. In terms of age group, patients who had undergone laparotomy were significantly older (p=0.002). The study showed that pregnancy rates among the three patient groups after treatment and follow-up were not significantly different. Pregnancy rates of spontaneous, due to ovulation induction, in vitro fertilization when evaluated separetely were significantly higher pregnancy rates of spontaneous in laparoscopic group (p=0.036). Among the tumor markers, CA-125 had significantly decreased after treatment in all three groups (p<0.05), but CA-125 was observed more significant decreased laparoscopy group (p<0.001). Conclusion: In this study, among the three methods applied at our clinic, laparoscopy stands out due to higher spontaneous conceival rates and lower post-treatment CA-125 levels. Therefore we can say that a particular method should be chosen as a priority by the surgeon of laparoscopy in infertile patients. Materials and Methods: This study was performed on 30 placentas, 20 preeclamptic and 10 normal gestations, of 36 weeks or more. Paraffin sections of preeclamptic and normotensive placental tissues were stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin, Masson's Trichrome, and Prussian Blue. Results: Evaluation of preeclampsia group placentas showed as most common findings: increased syncytial node in villus, cytotrophoblast proliferation, increased volume and number of fetal capillary, and increased fibrinoid accumulation. Among preeclampsia group placental tissue samples, Prussian Blue staining was observed most commonly in fetal central cross-sections. In most prominently Prussian Blue stained villus, presence of syncytial nodes and close neighboring between iron accumulation and syncytial kodes ere interesting findings. Statistical analysis of data was made by SPSS software using Mann Whitney U test and p values under 0.05 ere accepted as statistically significant. Conclusion: Studies of placental light microscopy are important in the clarification of preeclampsia etiopathogenesis and more studies with wider scope are needed.Öğe Rectal perforation following anal intercourse in a sixteen-year-old young married woman(2006) Kale A.; Kuyumcuoglu U.; Erdemoglu M.; Akdeniz N.; Yalinkaya A.Background: Many men and women practice a broad range of voluntary sexual activities. Most of which are harmless. Many minor injuries of the genital, and anal areas do occur but most require only symptomatic therapy. Rectal perforations and sphincter injuries are uncommon but have important medicolegal implications. Case Report: A-16-year-old nullipara presented with vaginal bleeding after sexual intercourse. Pelvic examination revealed full-thickness longutidunal perforation of the rectum. Full-thickness perforation of the rectum was sutured primarily under general anesthesia. The patient was discharged 2 days later. Conclusions: Rectal perforation due to sexual intercourse in a 16-year-old married woman has not been previously reported.Öğe Slowly growing large size acrochordon of vulva in an adolescent girl(2006) Kale A.; Akdeniz N.; Yalinkaya A.; Erdemoglu M.; Kilinc N.Background: Vulvar achrochordon is a relatively uncommon benign polypoid tumor of the vulva commonly known as skin tag or occasionally fibroepithelial polyps. The size of the lesion is generally 1-2 cm, but it rarely can reach extremely large size. Case Report: In our case A 20 years old girl had been suffering from slowly growing a vulvar achrochordon tumor for six years. The tumor was arising from the labium majus, and measured 11 cm in its largest diameter. Histologically, papillomatosis and hyperkeratosis of polypoid lesion was reported. Six month following surgical excision, the patient did not manifest any signs of recurrence. Conclusions: This vulvar lesion represents a very unusual example of large size achrochordon in an adolescent girl. We present this case as a rarely seen benign tumor of vulva.
