Öğe Agar-plate screening for acid dyes decolourization by three strains of Pleurotus eryngii isolated from Tunceli, Elazig and Hakkari Province of Turkey(Chemical Publishing Co., 2010) Yildirim N.; Yildiz A.; Aydin H.Many synthetic dyes present in industrial wastewaters are resistant to degradation by conventional treatments. In this study, the ability to decolourize two textile dyes by Pleurotus eryngii strains collected from geographically different habitats of Turkey was evaluated on agar plates. For all strains, growth and decolourization halos were determined on malt extract agar plates containing 0.1 and 0.2 g/L of acid red 183 or acid green 25. Each P. eryngii strain showed certain decolourization capacities and was able to decolourize both acid red 183 and acid green 25 on the malt extract agar plates, but not to the same extent. Both dyes at all concentrations were found to be toxic for P. eryngii growth. The presence of the dyes in plates reduced the mycelial growth of all strains in comparison with the control culture growing in the medium without dyes. A positive correlation was found between the mycelial growth rate and the decolourization ability.Öğe Brucellosis is a major problem: A five years experience(Acta Medica Mediterranea, 2013) Dal T.; Celen M.K.; Ayaz C.; Dal M.S.; Kalkanli S.; Mert D.; Yildirim N.Brucellosis is a chronic granulomatous infection which is endemic in Mediterranean countries and Turkey. The aim of this study is to analyze the clinical, laboratory findings and therapeutic features in patients with brucellosis. A retrospective study was conducted with 91 patients who developed brucellosis between 2005 to 2009. The diagnosis was based on clinical findings compatible with brucellosis, serological tests positive, and/or isolation of Brucella species from blood, or other tissues. The mean age was 33 years (16-67 years). Sixty-threes of patients (69.2%) were male. Forty (44%) cases had an occupational history relevant for Brucella exposure and 85 (93%) cases consumption with contaminated animal product. The mean diagnostic delay was 15 days, much longer in focal brucellosis. A total of 77 (85 %) cases had acute brucellosis. The focal brucellosis complications were observed in 39 (42.8%) cases: osteoarticular involvement 32 (82%), epididymo-orchitis 4 (10%), and central nervous system involvement 3 (8%). Chronic brucellosis occurs in 3 (3.3%) cases. Clinical manifestations included non-specific symptoms such as fever (95%), sweats (90%), arthralgia and lower back pain (63%). Of the patients 84 (92%) had serological titre =1/160 and 28 (31%) blood cultures were positive. All of the patients were cured by antibiotic therapy (Doxycycline+rifampicin/streptomycine, streptomycine+rifampicin/Doxycycline, ceftiraxone/rifampicin). Relapse was observed in 5 (5.4%) patients. Brucellosis is an infection with multiple presentations. Its early diagnosis was mandatory to avoid severe complications.Öğe Evaluation of three strains of pieurotus eryngii isolated from geographically different regions of turkey for their ability to decolorize methylene blue and chrystal violet(2010) Yildirim N.; Yildirim N.C.; Yildiz A.In this study, the ability to decolorize two chemically different synthetic dyes (methylene blue and crystal violet) by Pleurotus eryngii strains collected from geographically different regions of Turkey was evaluated on agar plates in static liquid cultures. For all strains, growth and decolorization halos were determined on malt extract agar plates containing 0.4 and 0.6 g/L of crystal violet (CV) or methylene blue (MB). Each P. eryngii strain showed certain decolorization capacities and was able to decolorize both MB and CV under static liquid culture conditions, but not to the same extent. The presence of the dyes in static liquid culture reduced the biomass production of all strains in comparison with control culture growing in the medium without dyes. In solid medium, a positive correlation was found between growth halo and decolorization halo. © by PSP.
