Appendicial mucoceles: Evaluation of two cases
    (2000) Uzunlar A.K.; Yaldiz M.; Saltabas F.; Ozaydin M.
The pathology of mucocele was reviewed and two appendiceal mucoceles were evaluated. These were diagnosed at the Pathology Department of Dicle University between 1990 and 1999. The changes in the lining epithelium of the mucocele were emphasized.

Evaluation of erythropoietin effects on cerebral ischemia in rats
(Maghira and Maas Publications, 2007) Aluclu M.U.; Acar A.; Guzel A.; Bahceci S.; Yaldiz M.
Objective: Majority of severe disabilities in adults are caused by stroke. The aim of our study is to learn the effects of erythropoietin (EPO), on infarct size in cerebral ischemia and to determine neurological behavioral scores and histopathological evaluation. Material & methods: In this study 30 adult Sprague-Dawney rats were used. Cerebral ischemia was constituted by intraluminal filament method with a 4-0-nylon suture. Reperfusion was started after two hours of middle cerebral artery occlusion. The rats were randomly divided into two groups as follow: control and EPO groups. Saline 0.9% (0.6 m5 ml/kg) and EPO (5 000 U/kg) was administered intraperitoneally in the groups. Three coronal slices in two millimeters thickness were obtained from cerebrum, cerebellum and brain stem, and were stained with a 2% solution of triphenyltetrazolium chloride. Transparent sheets were placed over each section and the areas of the brain and infarct were measured. The neurological scores were determined at 24th, 48th and 72nd hours after reperfusion. Results: Percent of ischemic area (%) in cerebrum, cerebellum and brain stem level in EPO groups were less than those of control group (p<0.0001). In addition, we determined that EPO group was better than controls of neurologic score and histopatologically after cerebral ischemia. Conclusions: We concluded that EPO may decrease ischemic area in experimental cerebral ischemia in rats and it seems that EPO may be beneficial. © 2007 Neuroendocrinology Letters.

Histopathological changes in liver of young rats treated with cadmium chloride during pregnancy
    (1998) Deveci E.; Goral V.; Tacar O.; Yaldiz M.; Canoruc F.
In this study, cadmium chloride injection (I.V.) was administered to 17- 21 day pregnant Wistar Albino rats. The weight and liver histology of rats were then investigated. This short time administration of cadmium caused decrease in body weight and degeneration of liver structure in pregnant rats.

Mucinous tumors of the ovary: Analysis of 38 cases
    (2001) Yaldiz M.; Uzunlar A.K.; Kilinç N.; Yalinkaya A.; Akkuş M.; Tunik S.
Ovarian mucinous tumors stem from ovarian surface epithelium and are divided into benign, borderline and malignant. It is difficult to differentiate borderline and malignant mucinous tumors. Thirty-eight cases of ovarian mucinous tumors which were diagnosed at the Pathology Department of Dicle University Medical Faculty were reviewed. Of these, 18 (47.3%), six (15.7%) and 14 (36.8%) were benign, borderline and malignant, respectively. The patients' ages ranged from 18 to 67 (average 44.5) years. Bilaterality was detected in 1/18 (5.5%), 0/6 and 4/14 (28.5%) of benign, borderline and malignant mucinous tumors, respectively. Mean tumor size was 26.4 cm. Microscopically, there was no stratification in the benign tumors. The borderline tumors had papillary infoldings and 2-3 layers of atypical epithelial cells but no invasion of the stroma. Malignant tumors had four or more layers of atypical epithelial cells and stromal invasion.

Nevoid hyperkeratosis of the nipple and areola: Case report
    (2001) Kilinç N.; Yaldiz M.; Yilmaz F.; Akdeniz S.; Özekinci S.
Nevoid hyperkeratosis of the nipple and areola is a rare benign condition of unknown etiology, Its characteristic properties are verrucous thickening and brownish discoloration of the nipple and areola. In microscopic examination, hyperkeratosis, papillomatosis and acanthosis with keratotic plugging were observed and nevoid hyperkeratosis was diagnosed. We discussed this rare condition in the light of current literature.

p53, c-erbB-2 expression and steroid hormone receptors in breast carcinoma: Correlations with histopathological parameters
    (2004) Kilinç N.; Yaldiz M.
Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the p53 tumor suppressor gene, c-erbB-2 and steroid hormone receptor expression in breast carcinoma by immunohistochemistry and to correlate them with different histopathologic parameters. Materials and Methods: p53, c-erbB-2, steroid hormone receptors and their correlation with age, tumor size, histological grade, axillary lymph-node status, and menopausal status were investigated in 65 breast carcinoma cases. All markers were measured immunohistochemically on paraffin sections. Association between estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PgR), p53 and c-erbB-2 expression and clinicopathologic variables were assessed by the chi-square test for qualitative parameters. Results: c-erbB-2 staining was found in 35.3% of breast carcinomas and was associated with ductal subtype and age under 35 (p = 0.022, p = 0.003, respectively); p53 staining was seen in 27.6% of cases and was associated with high histological grade and postmenapausal status (p = 0.038, p = 0.002, respectively). Progesterone receptor expression was associated with positive axillary status (p = 0.003). Conclusion: We concluded that expressions of c-erbB-2, p53, ER, and PgR may be used in the evaluation of breast carcinoma. Therefore the present study suggests that p53 expression is a marker of high histological grade in postmenopausal status, and that c-erbB-2 expression is associated with histologically ductal subtype.

Protruding urethral leiomyoma obscuring vaginal introitus: Case report
    (1999) Uzunlar A.K.; Özdemir E.; Yilmaz F.; Yaldiz M.; Özaydin M.; Arslan A.
Leiomyoma is quite rare in the female urethra. We report an additional case to 29 reported in the literature. A multiparous woman presented with a complaint of a gradually enlarging mass causing dyspareunia for the last seven months. The mass was originating from the upper part of the distal urethra with a relatively thin stalk covered by squamous epithelia, and immunohistopathological examination confirmed it as leiomyoma.

Teratogenic effects of propineb on rat skin
    (2000) Yaldiz M.; Akdeniz S.; Bilgin U.Y.; Deveci E.; Akkuş M.; Kilinç M.; Deveci Ş.
The dithiocarbamates are known to cause dermatitis, conjunctivitis, rhinitis, pharyngitis and bronchitis in humans. The experimental group received Propineb (obtained from Bayer) concentrations of 400 ppm in distilled water five days a week (treatment time three weeks) administered orally by gasric pit. Acute oral LD50 for male rats has been found to be 8,500 mg/kg (Worthing, 1983). The control group (n=10) received only distilled water. At ultrasonographical examination, there were no resorbed fetuses or stillborns during or after propineb administration. It can be clearly seen that the body weights of the experimental group of litters are lower than those of the control group (p<0.001). However, the mean length of the experimental litters was identical to the control group of litters (p>0.05). Under microscopical examination, increased keratinization and hyperplasia were observed in the epidermal cells.
