Öğe Appendicial mucoceles: Evaluation of two cases(2000) Uzunlar A.K.; Yaldiz M.; Saltabas F.; Ozaydin M.The pathology of mucocele was reviewed and two appendiceal mucoceles were evaluated. These were diagnosed at the Pathology Department of Dicle University between 1990 and 1999. The changes in the lining epithelium of the mucocele were emphasized.Öğe Cavernous hemangioma of the uterus: (A case report)(2002) Uzunlar A.K.; Yilmaz F.; Kilinç N.; Arslan A.Cavernous hemangioma of the uterus is an extremely rare lesion. We report a postmenopausal patient with abnormal uterine bleeding due to hemangioma and simple endometrial hyperplasia.Öğe Echinococcosis multilocularis in south-eastern Anatolia, Turkey(2003) Uzunlar A.K.; Yilmaz F.; Bitiren M.Objective: To quantify the human prevalence, elucidate possible risk factors and present other epidemiological parameters of human alveolar echinococcosis in the south-eastern region of Turkey. Design: A retrospective study. Settings: South-eastern region (Anatolia) of Turkey by two medical centres: Dicle University Medical Faculty in Diyarbakir and Harran University Medical Faculty in Urfa. Subjects: Forty seven cases of human alveolar echinococcosis were presented between the period of 1980 and 2000. Methods: For the majority of our patients, personal anamnestic, clinical data and addresses were available from their files, and we visited their villages to investigate the risk factors for human alveolar echinococcosis. Epidemiological parameters were evaluated. Results: The 47 cases consisted of 18 (38.3%) males and 29 (61.7%) females. The average age was 34.6 years. In all cases, lesions occurred in the liver. No village or district had more than one case. The majority of patients (73.8%) were farmers and 33 had a history of dog ownership. Conclusion: This region has a higher incidence than Turkey as a whole, and domestic dogs and free-ranging dogs seem to be the main source of infection.Öğe Effects of sodium nitroprusside on ischemia-reperfusion injury(TIP ARASTIRMALARI DERNEGI, 2010) Yavuz C.; Çakir O.; Göz M.; Kale E.; Uzunlar A.K.Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of sodium nitroprussid (SNP) on ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats. Method: Twenty-four Sprague-Dawney rats were divided into four equal groups: group I without ischemia-reperfusion (I-R); group II with ischemia; group III with I-R; group IV with I-R and SNP. Complete bilateral hindlimb ischemia was produced by means of tourniquet occlusion of the upper thigh. Result: Blood creatine phosphokinase, lactate dehydrogenase, aspartate transaminase, urea, creatinine levels were not significantly different between groups 3 and 4. Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were not significantly different between groups 3 and 4 in liver, soleus muscles and lung tissue. However, MDA levels were significantly lower in group 4 when compared with group 3 in renal tissue. Histological examination of the soleus muscles revealed that neutrophil leukocyte infiltration in group 3 was significantly less prominent than in group 4. Conclusion: These results have shown that SNP was not able to improve muscle ischemia-reperfusion injury in our study.Öğe Malignant ovarian germ cell tumors: Analysis of 32 cases(2003) Yilmaz F.; Gül T.; Uzunlar A.K.Objective: In this study, some clinicopathologic characteristics and the outcome of patients with malignant ovarian germ cell tumors (MOGCT) were evaluated. Materials and Methods. The clinical charts and pathologic reports of 32 patients with MOGCT treated at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and diagnosed at the Department of Pathology, Medical Faculty of Dicle University, Turkey from 1983 to 1999 were reviewed. Results: Thirteen patients (40.6%) had dysgerminoma, nine (28.1%) had immature teratoma (four grade 1, three grade 2, and two grade 3), eight (25%) had endodermal sinus tumor, and two (6.3%) patients had mixed germ cell tumors. Site of involvement was unilateral in 30 (19 on the right and 11 on the left) and bilateral in two. All patients underwent primary surgery and 26 patients combination chemotherapy. There seemed to be a relationship between pathologic findings and clinical outcome, and MOGCT histologic types may affect the prognosis. Conclusion: Dysgerminoma had a better prognosis than the nondysgerminomatous group (p < 0.05). This study provides additional data in confirmation of previous reports that management of MOGCT with fertility preservation is safe.Öğe Mucinous tumors of the ovary: Analysis of 38 cases(2001) Yaldiz M.; Uzunlar A.K.; Kilinç N.; Yalinkaya A.; Akkuş M.; Tunik S.Ovarian mucinous tumors stem from ovarian surface epithelium and are divided into benign, borderline and malignant. It is difficult to differentiate borderline and malignant mucinous tumors. Thirty-eight cases of ovarian mucinous tumors which were diagnosed at the Pathology Department of Dicle University Medical Faculty were reviewed. Of these, 18 (47.3%), six (15.7%) and 14 (36.8%) were benign, borderline and malignant, respectively. The patients' ages ranged from 18 to 67 (average 44.5) years. Bilaterality was detected in 1/18 (5.5%), 0/6 and 4/14 (28.5%) of benign, borderline and malignant mucinous tumors, respectively. Mean tumor size was 26.4 cm. Microscopically, there was no stratification in the benign tumors. The borderline tumors had papillary infoldings and 2-3 layers of atypical epithelial cells but no invasion of the stroma. Malignant tumors had four or more layers of atypical epithelial cells and stromal invasion.Öğe Primary alignant schwannoma of the small bowel(2001) Yilmaz F.; Uzunlar A.K.; Bükte Y.; Özekinci S.; Akgün Y.[No abstract available]Öğe Primary gastrointestinal lymphomas: A clinicopathologic study of 55 cases(2001) Yilmaz F.; Arslan A.; Ayyildiz O.; Uzunlar A.K.; Büyükbayram H.; Keleş C.Purpose: To study primary gastrointestinal (GI) non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHLs) in our region of the southeast Turkey, and to compare our results with those found in the relevant literature. Materials and methods: Fifty-five patients with surgical resection of primary GI NHLs were reviewed retrospectively, and their histologies were classified according to the Working Formulation. Clinical data obtained from pathology and endoscopy reports was also reviewed. Results: The cases of thirty-two male and 23 female patients were studied. GI NHLs were most frequent in the first and fifth decade of life (mean 30.9 years, range 3-75 years). Abdominal pain, weight loss and bleeding were the most common presenting symptoms. The primary sites of the tumors were: 16 in the stomach, 26 in the small intestine, 3 in the iliocecal region, and 10 in the large intestine. Eight (15%) of the 55 GI NHLs were of low-grade malignancy (5 lymphocytic and 3 follicular small cleaved cell), 38 (69%) were of intermediate-grade malignancy (9 diffuse small cleaved cell, 6 diffuse mixed, 23 diffuse large cell) and 9 (16%) were of high-grade malignancy (1 immunoblastic, 3 diffuse small noncleaved cell and 5 lymphoblastic). Conclusion: Clinicopathologically, our cases of primary GI NHLs seem to resemble the "Mediterranean" type of NHLs.Öğe Protruding urethral leiomyoma obscuring vaginal introitus: Case report(1999) Uzunlar A.K.; Özdemir E.; Yilmaz F.; Yaldiz M.; Özaydin M.; Arslan A.Leiomyoma is quite rare in the female urethra. We report an additional case to 29 reported in the literature. A multiparous woman presented with a complaint of a gradually enlarging mass causing dyspareunia for the last seven months. The mass was originating from the upper part of the distal urethra with a relatively thin stalk covered by squamous epithelia, and immunohistopathological examination confirmed it as leiomyoma.Öğe Spinal extradural angiolipoma(2007) Uzunlar A.K.; Bükte Y.Spinal angiolipomas are rare lesions usually found in the epidural space of the thoracic spine. About 102 cases of spinal angiolipomas have been previously reported in the literature. Angiolipomas can be radically excised with a good prognosis. We describe a spinal angiolipoma and discuss its clinico-pathological and radiological aspects.
