    Impact of international trade on employment in manufacturing industry of Turkey

    Turkey abandoned import substitution industrialization strategies in foreign trade policies and started to implement export promoting strategies after a reform program started in 1980. Promoted exports brought along increasing imports. In this study, the impact of international trade on employment level in industry was investigated using an annual panel of data from 95 manufacturing industries in Turkey for the period of 1992 - 2001. A dynamic panel data model was used for that purpose. Results showed that trade variables had no significant impact on employment in the manufacturing industry at the current level, while lagged real exports and import penetration had the opposite effect on current employment during the period analyzed.

    Türkiye imalat sanayinde dış ticaretin istihdam üzerindeki etkisi

    Bu çalışmada, dış ticaretin istihdam üzerindeki etkisi 1988:1-2007:3 dönemi imalat sanayi verileri kullanılarak gecikmesi dağıtılmış otoregresif yaklaşımı ile analiz edilmiştir. Üçer aylık veriler ile yapılan analizler sonucunda, uzun dönemde istihdam üzerinde dış ticaretin anlamlı bir etkiye sahip olmadığı, kısa dönemde ise hem ihracatın hem de ithalatın istihdam üzerinde pozitif ve anlamlı etkiye sahip oldukları görülmüştür.

    Türkiye'nin dış ticaret verilerinde mevsimsellik

    Bu çalışmada Türkiye’nin 1982:1-2008:12 dönemi ihracat ve ithalat zaman serilerinin mevsimsel yapısı analiz edilmiştir. Üç aylık zaman serileri için Hylleberg, Engle, Granger ve Yoo (1990) tarafından geliştirilen mevsimsel birim kök testlerini aylık verilere uyarlayan Franses’in (1990, 1991a) mevsimsel birim kök testleri açıklanarak, dış ticaret verilerinin mevsimsel yapısı incelenmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre, dış ticaret serilerinden ihracat ve ithalat serilerinde hem deterministik hem de durağan olmayan stokastik mevsimsel bileşenlerin mevcut olduğu görülmüştür.
