Öğe Bioaccumulation of cadmium by nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus (L.) in the presence of green algae Cladophora glomerata (L.) kutz(2009) Unlu E.; Karadede-Akin H.; Akturk M.N.; Yanar M.Accumulation of cadmium (Cd) was determined in the muscle and gill tissues of Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus (L.) exposed to sublethal concentrations of Cd (0.1 and 1.0 mg/L) under laboratory conditions for 15 and 30 days, in the absence or presence of green algae Cladophora glomerata (L.) Kutz. Results showed that muscles, irrespective of treatments, accumulated less Cd than gills. Cd accumulation significantly increased in both the tissues in treatment groups as compared to control groups (p<0.05), except in muscle of fish exposed to 0.1 mg/L Cd for 15 days (p>0.05). Presence of green algae did not influence accumulation of Cd in muscle. But Cd accumulation was significantly reduced in gills, in the presence of green algae, in all treatments groups, except in 0.1 mg/L Cd exposure for 15 days. In the presence of green algae, the reduced Cd accumulation in gills might be due to its uptake from the medium by the algae.Öğe The effects of the different concentrations of Thiodan® on the mortality rates of Gambusia affinis and Gammarus pulex(1999) Cengiz E.I.; Unlu E.In this study, the acute toxicity of thiodan® on Gambusia affinis (Cyprinidontidae: Pisces) and Gammarus pulex (Amphiopoda: Crustacea) have been examined. In acute toxicity tests, the LC50 values at 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours were investigated for Gammarus Pulex exposed to Thiodan® concentrations of 0.00 (control), 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 2.0, 5.0, 7.5, 10.0, 15.0, 20.0, 25.0, 30.0, 35.0, 50.0, 100.0 ?/lt. The 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours LC50 values were determined as 10.641, 8.755, 4.544 and 3.248 ?/lt, respectively. Moreover, LC50 values at 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours were investigated for Gambusia affinis exposed to Thiodan® concentrations of 0.00 (control), 0.50, 1.00, 1.50, 2.00, 2.50, 3.00, 5.00, 10.00, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5, 20.0, 30.0, 50.0, 100.0 ?/lt. The 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours LC50 values were determined as 14.415, 12.077, 10.035 and 6.116 ?/lt, respectively.Öğe Some biological characteristics of the Acanthobrama marmid Heckel, 1843 in the Tigris River (Turkey)(1994) Unlu E.; Balci K.; Akbayin H.Describes the following biological characteristics of Acanthobrama marmid: sex distribution, growth in length and weight, growth rates, condition factor, attainment of first maturity age, spawning period, and fecundity. -from AuthorsÖğe A study on the reproductive characteristics of Leuciscus cephalus orientalis (Nordman, 1840) from the Savur Stream(1993) Unlu E.; Balci K.Savur Stream is a branch of the Tigris River. The spawning period of chum Leuciscus cephalus orientalis occurs in May and June. Sexual maturity occurred in the second year for males, in the third year for females. -from English summary
