Öğe Bilateral twinned teeth and multiple supernumerary teeth(Quintessence Publishing Co Inc, 2008) Tumen, Emin Caner; Hamamci, Nihal; Kaya, Filiz Acun; Tumen, Demet Suer; Celenk, SemaDental twinning can result from the fusion of the developing dental germinal elements or the gemination of a single germ. In bilateral anterior and posterior dental twinning, problems such as poor esthetics, dental caries, arch-length problems, and periodontal disease often occur as a result of the irregular morphology. Several treatment methods have been described in the literature with respect to the different types and morphologic variations of twinned teeth, including endodontic, restorative, surgical, periodontal, and orthodontic treatment. This report documents the case of a young patient with an exceedingly rare phenomenon of permanent twinned teeth and multiple supernumerary teeth in both sides of the mandibular and maxillary arches, as a result of combined fusion and gemination.Öğe Comparison of Apical Microleakage of Dual-Curing Resin Cements with Fluid-Filtration and Dye Extraction Techniques(Int Scientific Literature, Inc, 2015) Kaya, Sadullah; Ozer, Senem Yigit; Adiguzel, Ozkan; Orucoglu, Hasan; Deger, Yalcin; Tumen, Emin Caner; Uysal, IbrahimBackground: Endodontically treated teeth with excessive loss of tooth structure are frequently restored using fiber posts. In this in vitro study, the apical leakage of self-and dual-activated curing modes for dual-curing resins cementing a translucent fiber post was evaluated using computerized fluid filtration meter and dye extraction method. Material/Methods: One hundred and four extracted human maxillary incisors with single root and canal were used. Experimental samples embedded in a closed system were divided into 4 groups (n=20) according to 2 dual-curing luting systems, with 2 different curing modes (either with self-or light-activation): (1) Panavia F 2.0 with self-cure, (2) Panavia F 2.0 with light-activation, (3) Clearfill SA with self-cure, and (4) Clearfill SA with light activation. Twenty-four teeth served as negative and positive controls. Translucent fiber posts were luted in the roots except in the control groups. Results: Statistical analysis indicated no significant difference in leakage among groups (p>0.05) with 4.12x10(-4) (Panavia self-cure), 4.55x10(-4) (Clearfill SA self-cure), 5.17x10(-4) (Panavia dual-cure), and 5.59x10(-4) (Clearfill SA dual-cure) in fluid-filtration method. Absorbance values for dye-extraction method were 266 nanometer (nm) (Panavia self-cure), 268 nm (Clearfill SA self-cure), 270 nm (Panavia dual-cure), and 271 nm (Clearfill SA dual-cure), in which difference among the groups were not statistically significant (p>0.05). When comparing the leakage, assessment methods results showed no statistically significant difference between the tested evaluation techniques (p>0.05). Conclusions: Light-and self-activation curing modes of Panavia F 2.0 and Clearfill SA perform similar to each other in a closed system.Öğe ELF Electromagnetic Field and Strontium Ranilate Influences on the Trace Element Content of Rat Teeth(Medwell Online, 2009) Kaya, Sadullah; Akdag, Mehmet Zulkuf; Yavuz, Izzet; Celik, Mustafa Salih; Adiguzel, Oezkan; Tumen, Emin Caner; Kaya, Filiz AcunExposure to Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) Electromagnetic Field (EMF) emanating from the generation, distribution and utilization of electricity. The major debate in recent years has focused on the possibility that exposure to EMF may result some health consequences such as differentiation on bone constitute. In this study, the effect of ELF-EMFs and strontium ranelate on teeth constitute amount of mineral were investigated in rats. Seventy-five four month old adult female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 5 different groups (n = 15). After all applications, some mineral levels such as: Ca, Mg and Zn in rat teeths were determined with Atomic Absorbtion Spectrophotometry (AAS) and the phosphorus content of teeth was determined by Ultraviolet Spectrophotometer (UVS). It was determined that the levels of Ca and P were not statistically different in comparison to Cg-Cnt and between groups (p>0.05). However, it was observed that the levels of Zn significantly alterations between some groups (p<0.05). The levels of Mg in ELF-EMF+OVX, ELF-EMF and OVX groups decreased significantly in comparison to Cg-Cnt group (p<0.05). As a result, it can be suggested that mineral amount of rat teeth can change after ovariectomy and ELF-EMF exposure, also strontium ranelate treatments can't increase mineral amount of teeth.Öğe Significance of Oral Symptoms in Early Diagnosis and Treatment of Celiac Disease(Ortadogu Ad Pres & Publ Co, 2009) Bolguel, Behiye Sezgin; Arslanoglu, Zeki; Tumen, Emin Caner; Yavuz, Izzet; Celenk, Sema; Atakul, FatmaObjective: To examine the frequency of oral symptoms in celiac disease and to underline their importance. Material and Methods: In the present study, we compared the prevalence of enamel defects, caries, recurrent oral aphthous stomatites, and risk factors of dental caries [levels of salivary mutans streprococci (MS) and Lactobacilli (LB)] between patients diagnosed with celiac disease, and healthy controls. A total of 82 patients with celiac disease and 110 healthy subjects were studied. Results: Dental enamel defects were found in 33 (40.2%) of the 82 celiac patients and 8 (7.2%) out of 110 control subjects. Enamel defects were significantly more common in celiac patients (p=0.000). All of the 33 celiac patients with enamel defect had specific dental enamel defects. Statistical analysis showed significantly more specific enamel defects in celiac patients than in control subjects (p=0.000). Regarding recurrent oral aphthous stomatitis (RAS), neither the celiac patients nor the healthy subjects had aphthous ulcers. Healthy individuals had significantly more caries lesions than celiac patients did (p=0.000). Conclusion: Early diagnosis and consequent gluten-free diet may prevent or reduce oral lesions. Dentists play an important role in recognizing patients with celiac disease by means of oral findings.
