    Investigation of the Relationship Between Visual Perception and Print Awareness Skills in Preschool Period

    The aim of study was to examine the relationship between visual perception and print awareness skills in preschool children. The research was conducted in preschool education institutions affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in Diyarbakır in the 2022-2023 academic year. A total of 132 preschool children participated in the study. The study was designed in a correlational design from quantitative research methods. The data of the study were gathered through the “Motor Skill Independent Visual Perception Test-3” and “Print Awareness subtest of the Early Literacy Skills Assessment Tool.” The findings of the study showed that there was a positive and moderately significant relationship between visual perception and print awareness skills. However, the regression model established according to the effect of the sub-dimensions of the visual perception scale on the general scores of print awareness is statistically significant. Therefore, it was found that visual perception development and print awareness skills of preschool children are related and predict each other. Based on the results of this study, it can be said that it is important and necessary to consider and support children's visual perception skills for the development of print awareness skills.
