Öğe Abdominal Herniation of the Left Kidney in a Cat and Its Surgical Treatment: A Case Report(Dokuz Eylul University, 2024) Saylak, Nahit; Kanay, Berna Ersöz; Çatalkaya, Emine; Taşdemir, Laleş; Ozer, Vedat; Yayla, SadıkA 4-year-old female tabby cat, weighing 4.2 kg, was presented to the Dicle University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Surgery Department with a complaint of a swelling in the left dorsolateral abdominal region. Upon examination, a painless, walnut-sized swelling, palpable in the left dorsolateral abdominal region, was identified. According to the anamnesis and previous radiographic images available from the owner, this swelling had developed a year ago following a fall from a high place. Detailed clinical and radiographic examinations revealed that the cat had undergone osteosynthesis with cerclage wire in the left corpus ileum region after falling from the fifth floor at a private clinic a year ago. The swelling was determined to be a herniated left kidney. Based on physiological and laboratory assessments indicating stability, an operative repair was planned. A skin incision was made over the mass, followed by careful dissection of the subcutaneous connective tissue, revealing the herniated kidney. After confirming the absence of strangulation through macroscopic evaluation, the kidney was repositioned. The surgical site was closed with Halsted sutures, and the procedure was completed with appropriate conventional methods. In conclusion, kidney herniation in abdominal dorsolateral hernias is a rare condition. Although various surgical approaches have been described for this region, long-term follow-up showed that the case healed successfully with the chosen method. This case report aims to inform colleagues about the importance of carefully considering abdominal hernias resulting from blunt trauma in clinical practice.Öğe Bir deve kuşu ventrikulusunda yabancı cisimlerin endoskopik tanısı ve ventrikulostomi(Dicle Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi, 2023) Kanay, Berna Ersöz; Çatalkaya, Emine; Yayla, Sadık; Altan, Semih; Kılınç, Mehmet; Saylak, NahitDeve kuşlarının sindirim sistemleri diğer kuşlardan farklıdır ve bu kuşlarda pika sıklıkla görülebilmektedir. The affected cats were aged mostly under the 1 year. Furthermore, the survival rate of these cats was found to be 95.8%. In conclusion, the main purpose for the treatment of cats with HRS should be to stabilise their general condition and subsequently correct orthopaedic and/or soft tissue damage.Öğe Distal femur kırıklarında poliaksiyel klemp rod internal fiksasyon metodunun etkinliğinin araştırılması: koyun modelinde deneysel bir çalışma(Dicle Üniversitesi, Sağlık Bilimleri Enstitüsü, 2023) Saylak, Nahit; Altan, SemihAmaç: Ortopedi Geliştirme Enstitüsü (AO-VET) tarafından tasarlanan Klemp-Rod İnternal Fiksasyon (CRIF) sistemi ile tarafımızca aynı sistemdeki klemp ve vidalar üzerinde yapılan modifikasyon ile tasarlanan M-CRIF sisteminin koyunlarda deneysel suprakondiler femur kırık modelinde uygulama ve iyileşme açısından etkinliklerini araştırmaktır. A retrospective study (2020-2023)(Dicle Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi, 2023) Çatalkaya, Emine; Kanay, Berna Ersöz; Yayla, Sadık; Saylak, Nahit; Bayat, AhmetThe eye is a sensory organ sensitive to external factors, infections and metabolic disorders and eye diseases have a very important place among surgical diseases. This study aimed to report the distribution of eye diseases encountered in cats brought to Dicle University Veterinary Faculty Hospital in the last 4 years (2020-2023) and to contribute to veterinary practice. Following the history of the cats, a detailed eye examination was performed and the diagnosed eye problem was recorded. In the cats included in the study, conjunctivitis (21.15%), keratitis (19.59%), corneal ulcer (14.09%), keratoconjunctivitis sicca (9.62%), glaucoma (3.44%), uveitis (4.12%), iris staphyloma (4.12%), symblepharon (3.78%), panophthalmitis (3.44%), corneal necrosis (3.09%), membrane nictitans protrusion (1.72%), chemosis (1.72%), entropion (1.37%), cataract (1.03%), hypopion (0.69%), proptosis (0.34%), local retinal detachment (0.34%) and dermoid cyst (0.34%) were seen. As a result, conjunctiva and corneal diseases were commonly encountered in cats. In order to prevent visual impairment, it is important not to neglect routine eye examinations and to diagnose and treat diseases early.Öğe Evaluation of supracondylar femur fractures in cats: a retrospective study(Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, 2022) Yayla, Sadık; Altan, Semih; Çatalkaya, Emine; Kanay, Berna Ersöz; Saylak, NahitFemoral fractures in cats are common and are usually treated using pins and wires, lag screws, intramedullary pins, as well as interlocking pins and plates. Among femur fractures, supracondylar femur fractures have an important place, and both proximal and distal femur fractures are more difficult than diaphyseal fractures. This study, which was conducted on 55 cats with the distal femur and supracondylar fractures, aimed to retrospectively evaluate the results of three different methods used traditionally. These methods were Rush pinning, cross pinning, and locked anatomic plates. Despite the disadvantages of each of the techniques, no problem was found in the application of either of them. No complications, including pin migration or plate and screw related complications, were encountered in the postoperative period. Functional improvement was achieved in all cats. As a result, it can be said that the method to be used in supracondylar fractures in cats varies according to the surgeon's preference and the orthopedic materials in his or her inventory. However, the anatomical locking plates may be preferred due to their advantages, such as not using bandages and starting to use the limb in the early postoperative period.Öğe Investigation of the effects of different surgical techniques on behavior in self-sucking cows in modern and individual family farms(Dicle Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi, 2023) Saylak, Nahit; Altan, SemihSelf-sucking or sucking other animals in the herd, which has an abnormal behavior disorder, and it is an important problem in dairy cattle farms. Surgical treatment is mostly recommended as a treatment for this disease, which causes economic problems. In this study, which was carried out on self-sucking cows, it was aimed to investigate the effects on different surgical treatment techniques in modern and individual family farms. While the surgical treatment of self-sucking behavior disorder in family farms has been successful, the operation results of this behavior disorder in modern farms have been unsuccessful. It was concluded that surgical treatment was unsuccessful in modern farms due to herd management problems. Surgical treatments for this visually acquired behavioral disorder of cows are insufficient. It has been concluded that environmental factors cause this behavior disorder and taking them into consideration while performing the operation will increase the chance of success.Öğe Kedi ve Köpeklerde Kalça Kırıkları Üzerine Retrospektif Bir Çalışma (2020-2022)(Afyon Kocatepe University, 2024) Çatalkaya, Emine; Yayla, Sadık; Altan, Semih; Kanay, Berna Ersöz; Saylak, Nahit; Hatipoğlu, ŞimalKedi ve köpeklerde birçok travmada pelvik kırıklar meydana gelir. Toplam 73 vaka ameliyat edildi. Kırıkların 55'ine iliosakral vida, 1'ine iliosakral pin, 45'ine kilitli plak, 9'una serklaj uygulaması, 10'una asetabular C plak ve 1'ine eksizyon artroplastisi uygulandı. Birçok olumsuz stres faktörüne rağmen iyi bir ameliyat yönetimi ve ameliyat sonrası bakım, hayatta kalma oranıyla birlikte artırılabilir.Öğe Management of eye protrusion in cats with acute trauma(Dicle Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi, 2024) Kanay, Berna Ersöz; Çatalkaya, Emine; Yayla, Sadık; Altan, Semih; Saylak, Nahit; Taşdemir, LaleşPreventing permanent vision loss and damage to the bulbus oculi in cases of proptosis, which is very important in small animal eye emergencies, and protecting the anatomical structures of the eye. Early intervention is important for protection. In this study, patients with proptosis who had experienced acute trauma. It was aimed to report the treatment and results of cats. Proptosis was diagnosed in 11 of 96 cats (11.45%) who presented to eye emergencies. On examination, all cats had eye. It was determined that the edges of the eyelids were not visible, the bulbus oculi was muffled, the bulbus oculi was hyperemic and edematous, there was a pupillary light reflex in 9 cases, and there was no pupillary light reflex in 2 cases. In the treatment, enucleation was applied in 2 cases, canthotomy and temporary Blepharorhaphy were applied in 3 cases, and temporary Blepharorhaphy was applied in 6 cases. It was determined that there were no postoperative complications in all cases and visual function was observed in all cases except for those who underwent enucleation. As a result, urgent intervention is important to protect the anatomical structures of the eye and maintain visual function in proptosis. The results obtained from this study are satisfactory for cats and their caregivers.Öğe A Retrospective Study on Pelvic Fractures in Cats and Dogs (2020-2022)(2024) Çatalkaya, Emine; Yayla, Sadık; Altan, Semih; Kanay, Berna Ersöz; Saylak, Nahit; Hatipoğlu, ŞimalPelvic fractures occur in many traumas in cats and dogs. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the treatment (conservative and operative) and its results together in cats and dogs diagnosed with pelvic fracture. The study material consisted of 223 pelvic fractures (15 acetabulum, 40 ischia, 68 ilium, 38 pubis and 62 sacroiliac separation) detected in 27 dogs and 75 cats of different ages, breeds and genders between 2020-2022. Pelvic fracture was diagnosed with clinical and radiological examination. It was treated conservatively and operatively (using iliosacral screw, iliosacral pin, locking plate, cerclage, acetabular C plate). It was observed that cases with pelvic fractures were mostly caused by falling from a height in cats and traffic accidents in dogs. It was also observed that there could be a single fracture in the pelvis as well as multiple fractures. A total of 73 cases were operated. In 55 of the fractures, iliosacral screw, 1 iliosacral pin, 45 locked plate, 9 cerclage application, 10 acetabular C plate and 1 excision arthroplasty were applied. Conservative treatment was applied to 29 cases. No complications were observed in the controls performed in the operated patients. It was concluded that good results were obtained in stabilization with screws in cases of sacroiliac separation, and the use of locking plates in ilium fractures and the use of acetebular C plate in acetabulum fractures could lead to a more comfortable and comfortable postoperative period.Öğe Surgical treatment of coccygeal fractures in fat–tailed sheep(Universidad del Zulia, Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias, 2024) Saylak, Nahit; Çağatay, SerhatFat–tailed sheep are a common breed in many parts of the world, and coccygeal fractures occur in these animals due to various traumas. As a result of these fractures, fracture hematoma occurs in the region and subsequently gangrene occurs due to circulatory impairment in the region. If the gangrened area is not treated, an open wound will form, and infection will be inevitable due to its relationship with the external environment. From this infected area, it causes sepsis and more serious complications that deteriorate the general condition of the creature, causing general condition disorders. However, it can be treated by surgical partial extirpation of the area where the coccygeal fracture occurs. In this study, the long–term recovery period of a total of 30 adult fat–tailed sheep and rams with coccygeal fractures treated with operative inverted V incision is followed. While all cases are observed to have recovered, it is observed that their productivity characteristics continued normal along with their walking and adaptation to herd management. It is concluded that the partial extirpation method, which is both cheap and effective, can be used in fat–tailed sheep with coccygeal fractures and can be applied in clinical practice. It is observed that the inverted V incision partial extirpation operative technique is both an effective treatment option and prevented economic losses in fat–tailed sheep.Öğe Sığırlarda metakarpo/metatarsofalangeal eklemine artroskopik yaklaşım: Bir kadavra çalışması(Dicle Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi, 2023) Çatalkaya, Emine; Yayla, Sadık; Altan, Semih; Kanay, Berna Ersöz; Saylak, NahitArtroskopi eklem hasarlarının tanı ve tedavisinde önemli yer tutar. Bu nedenle klinik olgularda da tekniklerin değerlendirilmesi önemli olacaktır.Öğe Traumatic Diaphragmatic Hernia in Cats and Factors Affecting Survival (A Clinical Study with 24 Cats)(2024) Kanay, Berna Ersöz; Yayla, Sadik; Altan, Semih; Çatalkaya, Emine; Saylak, Nahit; Canlı, Rojda; Taşdemir, LaleşDiaphragm hernia is still a severe problem in cats exposed to trauma. This study aimed to contribute to clinical practice and colleagues by notifying clinical observations on traumatic diaphragm rupture in cats and factors effective on survival. In this study, 24 cats with traumatic diaphragm hernia were presented. Contrast radiography has provided great convenience in diagnosing suspicious cases. 20 out of 24 cats (83%) remained alive, but four died. The localization of the diaphragm of these cats in 3 cats was in the left half, which was relatively high (50%) in the left tears. In the defects on the right, the herniated organs were the liver, small intestine, and omentum, while the stomach, small intestine, and spleen in the defects on the left. As a result, survival in 83% is important, and this is a good prognosis for aperture hernia. Despite many negative stress factors, good operation management and postoperative maintenance can increase survival.Öğe Treatment options and prognosis for distal humerus fractures in cats(Univ Zulia, Facultad Ciencias Veterinarias, 2024) Ersoz-Kanay, Berna; Yayla, Sadik; Catalkaya, Emine; Saylak, Nahit; Canli, RojdaThis study aimed to share clinical experiences on fracture type, treatment options and long-term results of treatment in cats with distal humerus fractures. Within the scope of the study, 11 cats with distal humerus fractures were evaluated. 4 of them were treated with cross pin and 7 of them were treated with plate osteosynthesis. Plate application in the postoperative period gave more successful results. In cases where there is no improvement, elbow joint arthrodesis is recommended before amputation. Distal humerus fractures can be challenging and a perfect technique for this area is not yet possible, but satisfactory results can be achieved despite everything.
