Objectives To evaluate the maternal and perinatal outcomes of pregnancies affected by SARS-CoV-2 infection. Methods This was a multinational retrospective cohort study including women with a singleton pregnancy and laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection, conducted in 72 centers in 22 different countries in Europe, the USA, South America, Asia and Australia, between 1 February 2020 and 30 April 2020. Confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection was defined as a positive result on real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay of nasopharyngeal swab specimens. The primary outcome was a composite measure of maternal mortality and morbidity, including admission to the intensive care unit (ICU), use of mechanical ventilation and death. Results In total, 388 women with a singleton pregnancy tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on RT-PCR of a nasopharyngeal swab and were included in the study. Composite adverse maternal outcome was observed in 47/388 (12.1%) women; 43 (11.1%) women were admitted to the ICU, 36 (9.3%) required mechanical ventilation and three (0.8%) died. Of the 388 women included in the study, 122 (31.4%) were still pregnant at the time of data analysis. Among the other 266 women, six (19.4% of the 31 women with first-trimester infection) had miscarriage, three (1.1%) had termination of pregnancy, six (2.3%) had stillbirth and 251 (94.4%) delivered a liveborn infant. The rate of preterm birth before 37 weeks' gestation was 26.3% (70/266). Of the 251 liveborn infants, 69/251(27.5%) were admitted to the neonatal ICU, and there were five (2.0%) neonatal deaths. The overall rate of perinatal death was 4.1% (11/266). Only one (1/251, 0.4%) infant, born to a mother who tested positive during the third trimester, was found to be positive for SARS-CoV-2 on RT-PCR. Conclusions SARS-CoV-2 infection in pregnant women is associated with a 0.8% rate of maternal mortality, but an 11.1% rate of admission to the ICU. The risk of vertical transmission seems to be negligible. (C) 2020 International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

A Novel Surgical Approach (Freya Technique) in Vulvar Labiaplasty: Inspired by the Fibonacci Sequence
(Imr Press, 2024) Okuyan, Erhan; Kandemir, Hulya; Kandemir, Selim; Yalcin, Necim; Peker, Nurullah
Background: In this study, we aimed to introduce a new technique of labiaplasty and to evaluate the effect of this novel technique on female genital self-images, and sexual outcomes and to assess the feasibility of this novel technique. Methods: We conducted a singlecenter, retrospective study in 59 women who underwent labiaplasty and vaginoplasty (29 Freya approach technique, 30 classic technique) from 2020 to 2022. Both groups evaluated before (within 7 days) and after (1 month after) surgery with Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and Female Genital Self-Image Scale (FGSIS) questionnaires and all the patients received postoperative care and follow-up assessments for complications 7 days and 1 month after surgery. Results: The Freya approach technique was associated with a shorter operation time (p < 0.05) and significantly lower postoperative Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores (p < 0.001). Both techniques increased FSFI scores (p < 0.001) and total FGSIS scores (p < 0.001). With the exception of a few cases of wound dehiscence that necessitated surgical correction (n = 1), wound healing occurred without complications. The outcomes were deemed highly satisfactory both aesthetically and functionally (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Freya approach technique is a simple and safe technique. It is effective in improving genital appearance and sexual satisfaction. Although this novel approach has similar satisfaction rates with other surgical techniques, it could be useful to reduce surgery time and postoperative pain.

Standardization of Marking of the Surgical Borders According to the Fibonacci (Golden) Ratio in Female Genital Aesthetic Surgery: Presentation of a Novel Marking Gadget
(Imr Press, 2024) Okuyan, Erhan; Gunakan, Emre; Peker, Nurullah
The anatomy of the female external genitalia may differ due to developmental or acquired events. However, several anatomical landmarks such as the anterior and posterior commissures, glans clitoridis, and perineal body do not differ across most patients and can be used to evaluate post -surgical tissue symmetry and proportion. Patient preference seems to be subjective; interestingly, however, the desired postsurgical appearance is very similar in itself, almost to the standard in most patients. In addition, surgeons may change the entire process according to their individual aesthetic perceptions and experience. Thus, the outcomes of genital aesthetic surgery may be affected by multiple factors, with patient preference and surgical evaluation and approach appearing to be the most person -dependent. From this perspective, we defined a sticker model for marking the external female genitalia in genital aesthetic surgery. Inspired by the golden ratio, we incorporated the Fibonacci spiral in the stickers.
