Investigation of the effectiveness of desliming and flotation in cleaning Malatya-Arguvan lignite
(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2016) Temel, Halime Abakay; Majumder, Arun Kumar
This study investigated the possibility of cleaning Malatya-Arguvan lignite using the flotation method. Because preliminary flotation studies suggested that desliming affects flotation performance, an attempt was made to quantify the effects of the major influencing parameters on the effectiveness of desliming and flotation. Because the optimum collector dosage was found to be very high, the effects of addition of sodium oleate and Aero 3477 were also investigated, to reduce the collector dosage. However, flotation results showed that the addition of sodium oleate and Aero 3477 does not alter the collector dosage significantly. Despite all the aforementioned efforts, only 20% of feed ash could be removed.

    Selective Oil Agglomeration of Lignite
(Amer Chemical Soc, 2009) Temel, Halime Abakay; Bozkurt, Volkan; Majumder, Arun Kumar
In this study, desulfurization and deashing of Adiyaman-Golbasi lignite by the agglomeration method were studied. For this purpose, three groups of agglomeration experiments were made. The effects of solid concentration, bridging liquid type and dosage, pH, and screen size on the agglomeration after desliming were investigated in the first group of experiments. The effects of lake water and sea water (the Mediterranean Sea water, the Aegean Sea water, and the Black Sea water) on the agglomeration were investigated in the second group of experiments. The effects of different salts (NaCl, MgCl2, and FeCl3) on the agglomeration were investigated in the third group of experiments. Agglomeration results showed that the usage of sea waters and soda lake water in the agglomeration medium had a positive effect on the reduction of total sulfur content of agglomerates. In addition, the usage of NaCl, MgCl2, and FeCl3 in the agglomeration medium had a positive effect on the ash content reduction of the agglomerates.
