Öğe Bilateral twinned teeth and multiple supernumerary teeth: A case report(2008) Tümen E.C.; Hamamci N.; Kaya F.A.; Tümen D.S.; Çelenk S.Dental twinning can result from the fusion of the developing dental germinal elements or the gemination of a single germ. In bilateral anterior and posterior dental twinning, problems such as poor esthetics, dental caries, arch-length problems, and periodontal disease often occur as a result of the irregular morphology. Several treatment methods have been described in the literature with respect to the different types and morphologic variations of twinned teeth, including endodontic, restorative, surgical, periodontal, and orthodontic treatment. This report documents the case of a young patient with an exceedingly rare phenomenon of permanent twinned teeth and multiple supernumerary teeth in both sides of the mandibular and maxillary arches, as a result of combined fusion and gemination.Öğe Clinical and radiographic comparison by analyzed cone beam CT between one stage and two stage dental implants(University of Dicle, 2017) Yildirm T.T.; Kaya F.A.; Yokus B.; Colak M.; Ozdemir E.; Tekin G.G.; Saribas E.The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between the periodontal clinical parameters and alveolar bone loss rate (ABLR) values in one and two stage dental implants using dental tomography A total of 40 dental implant was applied to patients, 20 a one-stage surgical procedure (group I) other 20 two-stage surgical procedure (group II), who had a single missing tooth in the lower jawbone. All clinical measurements were recorded at before loading (T0), after loading at the 3 rd month (T1) and after loading at the 6 th month (T2). Alveolar bone loss rate (ABLR) values were evaluated at T0 and T3 using dental tomography because of minimal artifacts and distortions. In our study, PPD was found to be significantly high in group I than group II at T1 and T2. There was a significant relation between the mPI and ABLR at T2 in Group I, also KSTI and ABLR at T0 in Group II. The data of this study confirms that; one stage surgery procedure PPD is high than two stage surgery procedure. Larger scale studies, particularly in peri-implantitis cases, may shed more light on this subject.Öğe The effects of pulsed and sinusoidal electromagnetic fields on E-cadherin and type IV collagen in gingiva: A histopathological and immunohistochemical study(Wroclaw University of Medicine, 2013) Dogru A.G.; Tunik S.; Akpolat V.; Dogru M.; Saribas E.E.; Kaya F.A.; Nergiz Y.Background. The potential beneficial effects of extremely low frequency pulsed and sinusoidal electromagnetic fields have been shown on many tissues. Gingival epithelium plays an important role in immunosurveillance of the periodontal tissues. The epithelium acts as a mechanical barrier through cell junctions such as E-cadherin. Objectives. Investigation of the effects of extremely low frequency magnetic fields on gingiva. Material and Methods. Twenty-seven male Wistar albino rats were used. The rats were divided into three groups: control group (n = 9), SEMF group (n = 9), PEMF group (n = 9). The SEMF and PEMF (pulse time: 25 ?sn, pulse frequency: 50 Hz) groups were subjected to 1.5 mT, 50 Hz, exposure 6 h a day, 5 days a week for 28 days in methacrylate boxes. The gingival tissue pieces processed for routine histological and immunohistochemical examination and tissue sections were stained with H-E and Masson trichrome. In addition, E-cadherin and type IV collagen expressions were examined immunohistochemically. Results. Intraepithelial lymphocytes and proliferation of epithelial cells increased in both electromagnetic field groups. The over-expressions of E-cadherin on gingival epithelium was detected in the PEMF and SEMF groups. The expression level of type IV collagen was not significant between the control and electromagnetic field treated groups, except for a significant increase in the basal cell layer of the PEMF group, as compared to the control and SEMF groups. Conclusions. PEMF and SEMF have a local pro-inflammatory effect on gingiva, leading to an increase in E-cadherin level but not type IV collagen. Both PEMF and SEMF can be used as a supportive device in the treatment of gingival diseases, especially those which lead to defects in the epithelial barrier. © Copyright by Wroclaw Medical University.Öğe ELF electromagnetic field and strontium ranilate influences on the trace element content of rat teeth(2009) Kaya S.; Akdag M.Z.; Yavuz I.; Celik M.S.; Adiguzel Ö.; Tumen E.C.; Kaya F.A.Exposure to Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) Electromagnetic Field (EMF) emanating from the generation, distribution and utilization of electricity. The major debate in recent years has focused on the possibility that exposure to EMF may result some health consequences such as differentiation on bone constitute. In this study, the effect of ELF-EMFs and strontium ranelate on teeth constitute amount of mineral were investigated in rats. Seventy-five four month old adult female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 5 different groups (n = 15). After all applications, some mineral levels such as: Ca, Mg and Zn in rat teeths were determined with Atomic Absorbtion Spectrophotometry (AAS) and the phosphorus content of teeth was determined by Ultraviolet Spectrophotometer (UVS). It was determined that the levels of Ca and P were not statistically different in comparison to Cg-Cnt and between groups (p>0.05). However, it was observed that the levels of Zn significantly alterations between some groups (p<0.05). The levels of Mg in ELF-EMF+OVX, ELF-EMF and OVX groups decreased significantly in comparison to Cg-Cnt group (p<0.05). As a resulf it can be suggested that mineral amount of rat teeth can change after ovariectomy and ELF-EMF exposure, also strontium ranelate treatments can't increase mineral amount of teeth. © Medwell Journals, 2009.Öğe An interdisciplinary approach in a patient with amelogenesis imperfecta: A clinical report and literatüre review(2012) Ulku S.Z.B.; Callea M.; Yavuz I.; Clarich G.; Kaya F.A.; Maglione M.; Kaya S.This clinical report describes an interdisciplinary approach for the coordinated treatment of a 20-year-old woman patient diagnosed with amelogenesis imperfecta. The treatment objective was to restore masticatory function, to reduce dental sensitivity and improve the facial esthetics. A multidisciplinary team approach treatment is recommended, including periodontology, orthodontics, endodontics, and prosthodontics. Prosthodontic treatment included composite laminate veneers and metal-ceramic fixed partial dentures. After treatment the patient was regularly recalled during the 25-months postoperative period. Radiographic and clinical examinations at recall revealed no evidence of complications associated with the restored teeth or their supporting structures.Öğe Is there a relation between dental anxiety, fear and general psychological status?(PeerJ Inc., 2017) Yildirim T.T.; Dundar S.; Bozoglan A.; Karaman T.; Dildes N.; Kaya F.A.; Altintas E.Background. Dental anxiety is a widespread problem in many populations. This problem can be a barrier to dental care and may lead to poor oral health. Dental anxiety may be related to psychological status. Aims. The aim of the present study was to assess the levels of dental anxiety, dental fear, Beck Depression, and state-trait anxiety according to age, gender and education level in patients at the periodontology clinic in the Diyarbakir Mouth and Dental Health Center. Study Design. A total of 231 patients (115 males, 116 females) filled out dental fear scale (DFS), dental anxiety scale (DAS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), state- trait anxiety inventory-state (STAI-S), and state-trait anxiety inventory-trait (STAI-T) questionnaires, and evaluations of DFS, DAS, BDI, STAI-S, and STAI-T were conducted according to age, gender, and education level. Results. The mean DFS, DAS, BDI, STAI-T, and STAI -S were 45.64, 9.15, 13.16, 38.90, and 40.18, respectively. There was a significant association among DFS, DAS, BDI, STAI-S, and STAI-T (p < 0.05). These surveys scores were significantly higher in females than males (p < 0.05). The results of this study indicated that gender age and education level have important effects on DFS, DAS, BDI, STAI-S, and STAI-T (p < 0.05). Conclusion. Dental anxiety and dental fear were found to be related to psychological status (BDI, STAI-S, and STAI-T) over time. There are some patients with unaddressed psychological distress. © 2017 Talo Yildirim et al.Öğe Maxillary canine-lateral incisor transposition: A case report(2010) Tumen D.S.; Kaya F.A.; Hamamci N.; Tumen E.C.; Berber G.This case report aims to present the orthodontic treatment of a patient who referred to our clinic with a chief complaint of crowding and who had left lateral canine tranposition at maxilla. In the clinical examinations of the patient; severe crowding, retained deciduous canine tooth and dental Angle Class I relation were detected. In the radiographic examinations, impacted and transposed canine tooth was observed. Skeletal Class I relation (ANB: 2°) was observed in cephalometric analysis. Fixed appliances were used in order have the transposed and unerupted canine tooth to erupt. Initially, lateral tooth was completely moved to the place of the canine and the space was obtained for canine in the arch. Then we began to have canine tooth erupt by fixing surgically eruption appliance to canine tooth. After having had an ideal occlusion and canine eruption, canine tooth was grinded to make it look like a lateral tooth and aesthetic of the gingiva at canine was provided by applying connective tissue graft. As a result of the applied orthodontic treatment, a functional occlusion, ideal overjet and overbite relation, and aesthetic smile were provided. In the treatment planning and for the success of the transposed teeth, tooth's position and the multidisciplinary cooperation play a key role.Öğe The oral findings of the gigantic patient with gingival enlargement-(A case)(2009) Kaya F.A.; Saribas E.; Dogru A.G.; Dag A.; Gunay A.This syndrome results from a chronic exposure to GH (Growth Hormone) leading to the classic clinical features that the diagnosis seems to be easy. The early diagnosis and intervention may prevent irreversible changes associated with chronic overproduction of GH (as well IGF-1) and may also normalise life expectancy. These patients have an increased mortality rate from systemic sequela of hypersomatotrophism in 2-4 times that of the healthy population. The facial scene changes are generally coarsening of features prognathism and diastema (widely spaced teeth). In this case report it is aimed to represent the periodontal surgery findings of a 24 years old male gigantism patient suffering from gingival enlargement in the site of 11 and 12 teeth who applied to Dicle University Faculty of Dentistry Department of Periodontology. After oral hygiene instruction, initial periodontal treatment was performed and after these the patient was operated. The patients periodic follow ups are still lasting by three months intervals.Öğe TNF-?, IL-1? and IL-8 levels in tooth early levelling movement orthodontic treatment(2010) Kaya F.A.; Hamamci N.; Basaran G.; Dogru M.; Yildirim T.T.During orthodontic treatment, the early response of periodontal tissues to mechanical stress involves several metabolic changes that allow tooth movement. The aim of the present study was to determine tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-?), interleukin 1? (IL-1?) and interleukin 8 (IL-8) levels in GCF in tooth early levelling movement orthodontic treatment. Seventeen patients, 8 female and 9 male individuals (aged: 16-20 years; mean 18.2 ± 1.4 years), participated in this study. Each subject underwent a session of professional oral hygiene and received oral hygiene instructions. Three months later, a fixed orthodontic appliance was placed. The patients were seen at baseline and between 1-7 days levelling of the teeth. The concentration of TNF-?, IL-1? and IL-8 were shown in Tables 1. There were statistical differences between the observations at the 1-2 day of levelling for TNF-?, IL-1? and IL-8 (p<.05). Orthodontic forced induces rapid release of the TNF-?, 1L-1? and IL 8 levels during tooth movement in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF). The results of this study support the hypothesis that proinflammatory cytokines play a potent role in bone resorption after the application of orthodontic force in short time.
