Öğe Association between burnout, anxiety and insomnia in healthcare workers: a cross-sectional study Burnout, anxiety and insomnia in healthcare workers(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2022) Aydin Guclu, Ozge; Karadag, Mehmet; Akkoyunlu, Muhammed Emin; Acican, Turan; Sertogullarindan, Bunyamin; Kirbas, Gokhan; Selimoglu Sen, HaticeAll healthcare workers (HCWs) encounter stress during in their working lives, and are constantly exposed to adverse conditions. The present study evaluates the relationship between burnout syndrome, anxiety levels and insomnia severity among healthcare workers, who mostly work in shifts. The Maslach Burnout Inventory, the Insomnia Severity Index and the Beck Anxiety Inventory were used to measure burnout, insomnia severity and anxiety status, respectively. This cross sectional study included a total of 1,011 HCWs and 679 (67.2%) of the study respondents were women. The respondents were aged 20-72, with a mean age of 35.67 +/- 8.61 years. Fifty-eight percent (n = 589) of the participants were rotating shift workers. Working on-call led to a significant difference in all burnout parameters (for each, <0.001). Age and on-call duty were seen to lead to a significant difference in the severity of insomnia (p = 0.028, p < 0.001, respectively). The total ISI score was found to be statistically significant positively correlated with the MBI subscales and the total BAI score (for each, <0.001). An increased awareness of the impact of sleep deprivation, burnout and anxiety among HCWs and meaningful interventions promoting change within the healthcare system are needed.Öğe Comparative Effects of Stimulant and Antipsychotic Medications on Eating Behaviors and Weight in Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(Mdpi, 2024) Aykutlu, Hasan Cem; Okyar, Esra; Karadag, Mehmet; Ozturk, MasumBackground/Objectives: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is associated with an increased risk of obesity and disordered eating behaviors. This study compared weight status and eating behaviors among drug-na & iuml;ve ADHD children, those on stimulant monotherapy, those on combined stimulant and antipsychotic treatment, and healthy controls. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 547 children aged 6-12 years from four Turkish provinces: 361 with ADHD (152 drug-na & iuml;ve, 156 on stimulants, and 53 on combined therapy), and 186 healthy controls. Anthropometric measurements, psychiatric assessments, and eating behavior evaluations were conducted using standardized tools. Results: Drug-na & iuml;ve ADHD children had the highest obesity rate (13.8%), while those on stimulant monotherapy had the lowest (4.5%) compared to controls. Combined treatment group obesity rates were similar to controls (7.5% vs. 8.6%). The drug-na & iuml;ve and combined treatment groups showed increased food approach behavior and desire to drink, with the combined treatment group also showing increased emotional overeating. Conclusions: This study reveals a complex relationship between ADHD, its pharmacological management, and the risk of obesity. Stimulant monotherapy may mitigate the risk of obesity, while combined stimulant and antipsychotic treatment may lead to problematic eating behaviors. These findings emphasize the importance of monitoring weight status and eating behaviors in ADHD children, especially those receiving pharmacological interventions.Öğe Comparison of Serum USP9x and TGF-β Levels in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders with Healthy Controls(Turkish Neuropsychiatry Assoc-Turk Noropsikiyatri Dernegi, 2024) Karadag, Mehmet; Turgut, Fatma Subasi; Ciftci, Zehra; Hangul, Zehra; Taysi, SeyithanIntroduction: USP9X has been associated with neurodevelopmental disorders due to its role in synaptic development and neural function. This study aimed to compare USP9X and TGF-(3 levels in children with autism and healthy controls, and explore their relationship with autism severity. Methods: Serum USP9X and TGF-(3 levels were measured in 41 healthy control children (aged 3-12 years) and 41 children with autism. Results: Our study revealed a significant increase in USP9X levels (p=0.001) among children with autism compared to controls. However, TGF-(3 levels showed no significant difference between the two groups. Furthermore, we observed a positive correlation between difficulty in making eye contact subscale and blood levels of both USP9X and TGF-(3. Conclusions: This study is the first to compare serum USP9X levels in children with autism to healthy controls. Our findings suggest USP9X's potential role in autism development, emphasizing the need for further research on its involvement in neurodevelopmental processes.Öğe Does attention deficit hyperactivity disorder worsen family functioning and parenting styles? A case control study(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2023) Karadag, Mehmet; Yilmaz Saygili, Gizem; Topal Hanguel, Zehra; Subasi Turgut, FatmaObjective: A bidirectional relationship between family functioning and parenting styles and Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is proposed. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of ADHD symptoms on parenting styles and the general functionality of the family as well as symptoms of depression and anxiety. Methods: 73 children with ADHD (56%) and 56 controls (43%) (a total of 129 participants, 31% female, 69% male) with a mean age of 11.3 (7-17, n: 129) were included in the study, which was conducted in Gaziantep University Hospital Child Psychiatry Department in 2022. The participants completed psychometric scales. Results: Parents of children with ADHD showed higher positive parenting scores than the control group (p < 0.05). Inconsistent discipline scores were substantially higher in the ADHD combined subtype (14.38 +/- 5.2) than in the attention deficit dominant group (17.59 +/- 3.96) In addition, a strong correlation was found between familial functionality scores and ADHD severity in the ADHD attention deficit dominant subtype (r:0.601; p:0.027) and as ADHD severity increased, family functionality decreased. Conclusions: This study shows that parents of children with ADHD have different parenting styles and ADHD affects the overall functionality of the family in the Turkish sample.Öğe Management of neuropsychiatric symptoms in anti NMDAR encephalitis: a case report(Cukurova Univ, Fac Medicine, 2024) Turgut, Fatma Subasi; Ozcelik, Ayse Aysima; Kilic, Hasan; Karadag, Mehmet
