Öğe Analysis of MR imaging of wrists in female patients with carpal tunnel syndrome and healthy controls(Soc Chilena Anatomia, 2009) Karabulut, Özlen; Tuncer, Mehmet Cudi; Karabulut, Zülfü; Güzel, EbruThe objective of this study was to evaluate morphological changes of the median nerve in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and healthy controls, to correlate the MRI findings of wrists. This study compared not only morphological changes of the median nerve and also displayed descriptively structures in carpal tunnel between patients diagnosed with idopathic CTS and healthy controls. Our study involved 60 hand, 30 of hand were evaluated diagnosed with idiopathic CTS and 30 hand as healthy controls bilaterally. Two provocative tests (Phalen's and Tinel's test) were performed on each hand for both the patient group (60 wrist) and the control group (60 wrist). With regard to Phalen and Tinel's test results, 24 and 26 wrists were excluded from patient and control groups respectively. Totally 70 wrists were evaluated, and in terms of cross-sectional area of median nerve at the level of distal radioulnar joint, pisiform bone and the hook of hamate bone by MRI in the patient and control groups. In addition to evaluation of cross-sectional area of median nerve, we determined signal intensity of wrists and different localization of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel. Cross-sectional area of the median nerve measured by wrist magnetic resonance at the level of metacarpal bones and signal intensity of wrists may be considered as a valuable indicator to determine patients referred with idiopathic CTS.Öğe Conus Medullaris Position in an Adult Population: Analysis of Magnetic Resonance Imaging(Soc Chilena Anatomia, 2016) Karabulut, Özlen; Akay, Hatice; Karabulut, Zülfü; Özevren, Hüseyin; Saka, Günay; Hatipoğlu, Savaş; Deveci, EnginThe objective of this study was to evaluate the variation in position of the conus medullaris (CM) in male and female patients without spinal deformity, to correlate the termination level in magnetic resonance (MR) images of the lumbar spine. 921 patients consisted of 607 men and 314 women were evaluated by MRI. The strength of T1 weighted MRI device was 1.5 Tesla. The patients were in supine position when measured. The termination level of the conus medullaris was recorded in relation to the upper, middle or lower third of the adjacent vertebra and the adjacent intervertebral disc. The patients in our study group were examined for low back pain. The members with spinal deformity were excluded. The distribution of conus medullaris localization was measured to range from T12 to L2-L3. There was a statistically significant difference in the mean conus medullaris position related to gender also a significant difference between increasing age and conus position in female patients. These findings suggest that the distribution of CM location in a large adult population was shown to range from the upper third of T12 to the lower third of L2-L3 disc space both in women and men.Öğe Postmenapozal kadınlarda kemik minarel yoğunluğu ile vücut kitle indeksinin karşılaştırılması(2016) Karabulut, Özlen; Hatipoğlu, E. SavaşBu çalışmanın amacı postmenapozal kadınlarda, kemik mineral yoğunluğu ile vücut kitle indeksi arasında bir ilişki olup olmadığının belirlenmesiydi. Bu nedenle Diyarbakır Bilim Tıp Merkezine kemik dansitometresi çektirmek üzere başvuran 180 postmenapozal kadın çalışmaya dahil edildi. Kemik mineral yoğunlukları Lunar marka bir dansitometre (DEXA) ile femur proksimal ve lumbal 2-4 vertebra bölgelerinden ölçüldü. Bütün olguların yaş, kilo ve boylan da kaydedildi. En yaşlısı 70, en genci ise 45 olan olguların yaş ortalaması ve standart sapması 57,95 ± 6,38 bulundu. En uzun boylusu 176 cm, en kısası 150 cm olup boy ortalaması ve standart sapması 159,60 ± 3,59 bulundu. En şişmanı 98 kg, en zayıfı 48 kg olup kilo ortalaması ve standart sapması 71,86 ± 10,91 bulundu. Tüm olguların vücut kitle indeksleri hesaplandı. En düşük vücut kitle indeksi 19,58 olup en yüksek vücut kitle indeksi 39,83 bulundu. Ortalama vücut kitle indeksi ve standart sapması ise 28,28 ±4,04 bulundu. Çalışma sonucunda vücut kitle indeksi ile femur bölgesinde ve L2- L4 bölgesinde kemik mineral yoğunluğu arasında anlamlı bir ilişki saptandı. Yaş dekadlan ile kemik mineral yoğunluğu arasında tüm bölgelerde ters yönlü anlamlı bir ilişki görüldü. Aynı zamanda yaş dekadlan ile vücut kitle indeksi arasında da ters yönlü anlamlı bir ilişki görüldü. Anahtar Kelimeler: Vücut Kitle İndeksi, Kemik Mineral: Yoğunluğu.Öğe The Variations of torg ratio with gender in patients with neck pain(Dicle Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, 2007) Karabulut, Özlen; Karabulut, ZülfüThe Torg Ratio which may help to identify patients at risk for cervical spine cord injuries is an indicator of cervical canal stenosis determined by dividing the sagittal spinal canal diameter by the corresponding sagittal vertebral-body diameter. It was reported that male and female subjects showed differences in previous studies. The aim of this study was to investigate these differences. Our study that included the subjects 45 women and 45 men with neck pain was carried out at Diyarbakır State Hospital. The mean ages of male and female participants were 30 and 33. We measured both diaemeters on the lateral radiographs of the cervical spine in mm by using a Vernier Calipper. Women had smaller sagittal spinal canal and vertebral body diameters at all levels. The narrowest sagittal spinal canal diameters measured were at C4 level in men and at C2 level in women. The mean Torg Ratio was 0.73 at C4 in men and 0.80 at C2 in women. We found larger Torg Ratios in females at all cervical vertebral levels except C2 level.
