Öğe Effect of a 50-Hz sinusoidal electromagnetic field on the integrity of experimental colonic anastomoses covered with fibrin glue(2009) Girgin S.; Ozturk H.; Gedik E.; Akpolat V.; Kale E.; Ozturk H.Background. Low-frequency magnetic fields have been shown to affect biological In this article the effects of 50-Hz sinusoidal magnetic field (MF) stimulation and application of fibrin glue on the healing of experimental colonic anastomoses were investigated. Material and Methods. Twenty-eight rats were divided into four groups. Group 1 underwent 2-cm left colonic resection and primary anastomosis. Group 2 underwent normal resection anastomosis and the area was covered with fibrin glue. Group 3 underwent normal resection anastomosis and the rats were exposed to a 50-Hz sinusoidal MF. Group 4 underwent normal resection anastomosis, the anastomosis area was covered with fibrin glue, and the rats were exposed to a 50-Hz sinusoidal MF. Investigations included bursting pressure measurement, hydroxypro-line content, and histopathological changes. Results. Tissue hydroxyproline levels and anastomotic bursting pressures of groups 2, 3, and 4 were significantly higher than in group 1. Collagen deposition and fibroblast infiltration in groups 2, 3, and 4 had higher scores than in group 1. Furthermore, these results were significantly higher in group 4 rats than in the other groups. Histopathological examination of the anastomosis revealed significantly better healing patterns for group 4 than for groups 1, 2, and 3. Conclusions. A 50-Hz sinusoidal MF stimulation and application of fibrin glue provided a significant gain in anastomotic healing in the large intestine. A combination of a 50-Hz sinusoidal MF and fibrin glue has significantly favorable effects on healing of experimental colon anastomosis. © Copyright by Wroclaw Medical University.Öğe Effects of sodium nitroprusside on ischemia-reperfusion injury(TIP ARASTIRMALARI DERNEGI, 2010) Yavuz C.; Çakir O.; Göz M.; Kale E.; Uzunlar A.K.Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of sodium nitroprussid (SNP) on ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats. Method: Twenty-four Sprague-Dawney rats were divided into four equal groups: group I without ischemia-reperfusion (I-R); group II with ischemia; group III with I-R; group IV with I-R and SNP. Complete bilateral hindlimb ischemia was produced by means of tourniquet occlusion of the upper thigh. Result: Blood creatine phosphokinase, lactate dehydrogenase, aspartate transaminase, urea, creatinine levels were not significantly different between groups 3 and 4. Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were not significantly different between groups 3 and 4 in liver, soleus muscles and lung tissue. However, MDA levels were significantly lower in group 4 when compared with group 3 in renal tissue. Histological examination of the soleus muscles revealed that neutrophil leukocyte infiltration in group 3 was significantly less prominent than in group 4. Conclusion: These results have shown that SNP was not able to improve muscle ischemia-reperfusion injury in our study.Öğe Multidisciplinary approach to rehabilitation of a patient with lateral incisor agenesis(2012) Izgi A.D.; Dildeş R.G.; Kahraman B.; Hamamci N.; Kale E.Lateral incisor agenesis is an important cause for the esthetic smile disharmony due to strategic location. These clinical cases besides multidisciplinary are always treated under the strong influence of either the orthodontic or the prosthodontic discipline. The first approach consists of orthodontic mesial replacement of the missing lateral with the existing canine and giving it an incisor shape, whereas the last approach constitutes a conventional fixed-partial-denture treatment or implant supported prostheses for the missing incisors. This clinical report represents the multidisciplinary rehabilitation of a 21-year-old male with bilateral congenitally missing upper lateral incisors. After orthodontic therapy and providing the necessary space for the laterals, bilateral implant placement and prosthetic treatment was carried out. Incorporation of zirconium reinforced abutments and all ceramic crowns to the therapy had provided attractive and confident smile for the patient.
