Öğe Nanotechnology in plant sciences: Phytonanotechnology(Nova Science Publishers, Inc., 2020) Onay A.; Jahan I.; Kılınç F.M.Phytonanotechnology deals with the promising utilization and diverse prospects of nanotechnology in plant sciences, plant cultivation and food production systems. This new branch of science has the potential to accelerate the conventional plant cultivation practices and food production processes by reducing the application of agrochemicals (e.g., chemical fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides), by monitoring target-specific release of biological compounds (e.g., proteins, nucleotides and other activators), by distributing the essential micronutrients, i.e., Cu, Br, Fe, Mb and Zn etc. at nano level without effecting the regular metabolism in the plant system, by integrating plant viral disease detection kits into the plant system (e.g., early detection of viral diseases) as well as by increasing the production of high-value secondary metabolites. Delivery of nanoparticle-mediated materials into the plants, and the development of advanced biosensors for precise farming is only possible with “nanoparticles” or “magic bullets.” Therefore, the aim of this study is to review the nanostructured materials (NSMs), characterization of nanoparticles (NPs), different approaches for NP synthesis, plant nanoparticle interactions, effects of NPs especially as growth promoter on plant production system, the potential applications of phytonanotechnology and specifically the effects of NPs in plant tissue cultures. The benefits of phytonanotechnology to the productivity and quality of plant products and their potential uses are also discussed. © 2020 Nova Science Publishers, Inc. All rights reserved.
