Öğe Comparison of the Accuracies of CBCT, Radiography, and Four Electronic Apex Locators in Working Length Determination(Univ Indonesia, 2022) Ozata, Merve Yeniceri; Falakaloglu, Seda; Kaya, SadullahBackground: One of the significant stages during endodontic procedures is determining the correct working length (WL). This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of four electronic apex locators (EALs) (Root ZX mini, Raypex 6, Propex Pixi, and E-Pex Pro) and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and radiographic measurement in determining the actual WL (A-WL). Methods: Thirty extracted single- root mandibular premolars were selected and flattened at the crown. The WL was determined by advancing the #15 K file until its tip was visible from the apical, and the A-WL was established by subtracting 0.5 mm from this length. The WL was also determined using periapical radiography, four EALs, and CBCT. The differences in all measurements were compared with the A-WL. The data were statistically analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (Welch) and Tamhane's test. The significance level was set at p < 0.05. Results: Compared with other measurement methods, CBCT gave shorter values than the A-WL, and this finding was statistically significant compared with those of the PR and Propex Pixi groups (p = 0.009) (p = 0.024). No significant difference was observed between the other groups (p > 0.05) except the CBCT group (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Root ZX mini and Raypex 6 made measurements close to the A-WL.Öğe The Effects of Two Instrumentation Techniques for VDW.Rotate Instruments on the Apical Extrusion of Debris and Irrigants: An In Vitro Study(Univ Indonesia, Fac Dentistry, 2022) Falakaloglu, Seda; Ozata, Merve Yeniceri; Iriboz, EmreObjectives: This study compared the amount of apically extruded debris and irrigant using VDW.ROTATE instruments with different kinematics (continuous rotation and reciprocation motion) and the ProTaper Gold system. Methods: Sixty extracted mandibular premolar teeth were selected. The teeth were prepared for the agar gel model. The roots were randomly divided into three groups (n=20). In two groups, the root canals were instrumented using the following movement kinematics: VDW.ROTATE reciprocation motion and continuous rotation. In the other group, root canals were prepared with ProTaper Gold. Apically extruded debris and irrigant during instrumentation were collected into preweighed Eppendorf tubes and were assessed with an electronic balance. All procedures were performed in a 35 degrees C hot water bath. The data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk and Kruskal-Wallis tests at a 5% significance level. Results: ROTATE-Reciprocation extruded the least amount of debris, but this finding was not significant when compared with the amount of debris and irrigant extruded by the ProTaper Gold and ROTATE-Rotation (p>.05). Conclusion: All instrumentation kinematics were associated with apical debris and irrigant extrusion. Movement kinematics did not affect the amount of apically extruded debris and irrigants when using VDW.ROTATE instruments.Öğe Evaluation of shaping ability of different glide path instruments: a micro-computed tomography study(Bmc, 2023) Ozata, Merve Yeniceri; Falakaloglu, Seda; Keles, Ali; Adiguzel, Oezkan; Gundogar, MustafaBackground This study aimed to compare the shaping ability of different instruments, TruNatomy Glider (TRN-G), WaveOne Gold Glider (WOG-G), and ProGlider (Pro-G) using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). Methods The mesial canals of 27 mandibular molars with two separate mesial canals and moderate curvature were included in this study [n = 27 mesiobuccal (MB) and mesiolingual (ML) root canal]. According to the manufacturer's instructions, the glide path was created with TRN-G, WOG-G, and Pro-G glide path instruments (n = 9 MB and ML root canal in each group). Micro-CT scanning was performed before and after preparation. Mesiodistal (MD) and buccolingual (BL) transportation and the centering ratio were measured at three levels within the canal (3, 5 and 7 mm). A three-way robust ANOVA was used to compare the parameters. Results TRN-G showed significantly greater transportation in the MD direction than the other instruments throughout the root canal (overall root canal) (p < 0.05). The best centering ability in the BL direction was shown by the WOG-G, regardless of level within the canal and canal distinction (MB vs. ML) (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference between groups according to the level within the canal and canal parameters (p > 0.05). Whether the root canal was MB or ML did not affect centering or transportation (p > 0.05). Conclusions Glide path instruments can be used to shape moderately curved canals with minimal apical transportation and better centering ability. All three tested glide path files can used safely before the shaping file.Öğe Is it safe to use YouTube™ to learn about root canal preparation? Analysis of content and quality of videos(Ariesdue Srl, 2023) Falakaloglu, Seda; Ozata, Merve Yeniceri; Karaagac, Betul; Gundogar, MustafaAim: This study assessed the quality, educational content, and demographics of root canal preparation videos on YouTube (TM). Methodology: The study was performed for root canal preparation using the keywords root canal shaping, root canal preparation, and root canal instrumentation on YouTube (TM). In total, 108 English language videos shorter than 15 minutes were acquired. After evaluating the demographic characteristics, the viewing rates of the videos were estimated. The quality of the videos was assessed using DISCERN, the Global Quality Scale (GQS), and the Video Power Index (VPI). Statistical analyses of the evaluated results were performed. Results: Endodontists uploaded the most videos (32%), mainly shot on the teeth of patients (30%). The number of views and the VPI were significantly higher for the videos uploaded by commercial companies than by endodontists (p<0.05), with no significant difference between videos uploaded by dentists or endodontists. As the DISCERN (reliability) value increased, the number of views/likes and the VPI increased, even though these values were not statistically significant (p>0.05). While a positive and meaningful relationship was found between DISCERN and the GQS (p<0.05), a negative and significant association was found between the VPI and the interaction index (p<0.05). When dentists, commercial companies, and others were considered as a single group and compared with endodontists, no significant difference was found between the two groups in terms of GQS and DISCERN (p>0.05). Conclusion: It was highlighted that a high-quality contribution from uploaders is needed for videos posted on YouTube (TM) about root canal preparation. It is crucial to refer to high-quality sources of information.Öğe Shaping ability of different NiTi rotary systems during the preparation of printed mandibular molars(Wiley, 2023) Falakaloglu, Seda; Silva, Emmanuel Joao Nogueira Leal; Yeniceri Ozata, Merve; Gundogar, MustafaThis study aimed to evaluate the shaping ability of XP-endo Shaper, TruNatomy and EdgeFile X3 during the preparation of resin-printed mandibular molar mesial root canals. Thirty-three resin-based mandibular mesial roots with two canals, obtained from extracted tooth cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) image and printed on a three-dimensional (3D) printer, were divided into three experimental groups according to the different nickel-titanium (NiTi) systems used for root canal preparation. The specimens were scanned using CBCT imaging before and after root canal preparation. Then images were registered using a dedicated software and changes in the canal area, volume, untouched canal surface and the maximum and minimum dentine wall wear were calculated. The XP-endo Shaper instruments showed improved shaping ability with lower untouched root canal surface and better preservation of root canal anatomy during the preparation of resin-printed mandibular mesial root canals compared with TruNatomy and EdgeFile X3 systems.
