Öğe Study of zinc distribution by sequential extraction procedure(International Multidisciplinary Scientific Geoconference, 2017) Kavak O.; Aydin I.; Fidan C.; Erek F.; Aydin F.Coal bottom ash (CBA) contains many elements that exist in different forms, which may change throughout the coal combustion process. This study presents the concentration and speciation of zinc in bottom ash of coal. Determination of total zinc was performed by two-stage microwave-acid digestion followed by ICP-OES. A sequential extraction process to speciation of zinc from coal bottom ash was investigated [1]. The definition of species is based on several different levels of atomic and molecular structure where chemical forms of the same element are manifest. It can be considered differences at the levels of (i) isotopic composition, (ii) electronic or oxidation state, (iii) inorganic and organic compounds and their complexes, (iv) organometallic species, and (v) macromolecular compounds and complexes. The conventional method of Rauret et al. with modification was used for the sequential extraction [2]. Zinc is an important element for both the living and the environment. In the vital activities of the cell, it plays a role in the functioning of hormones and enzymes. Inhalation is harmful to health. The toxicity effect of zinc is anionic part of its for environmental. This study presents a modified BCR sequential extraction method for the fractionation of zinc (Zn) in CBA into four forms (exchangeable, reducible, oxidizable, and residual) and determination by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). The sample was taken from Karatepe (Sirnak) Turkey. The advantages of the technique include a high degree of automation, good reproducibility, and short analysis time, which makes it the method of choice for the fractionation of Zn. © SGEM2017.
