A case of Osteochondroma in a cat's ear
(Univ Cordoba, 2024) Polat, Eren; Karabulut, Burak; Ekinci, Elif
In this case report, we aimed to share the clinical and histopathological examination and treatment process of a 6-month-old hybrid cat brought with the complaint of swelling in the medial part of the right auricle. In clinical examination, it was determined that the mass had a hard and irregular surface structure. As a result of the clinical examination, it was decided to completely extirpate the mass and send it to the pathology department. The mass was widely separated from the surrounding tissues and extirpated with the help of cautery. Microscopic examination of the mass revealed that there were chondrocytes among the dense bone cell accumulations and that they formed islands in some areas. As a result of histopathological examinations, it was determined that the suspicious mass was osteochondroma. During the postoperative examinations, it was determined that there was no recurrence or complication in the patient. As a result, it was concluded that this presentation will contribute to the literature since osteochondroma masses are rare in the ear region.

Congenital pathological formation of maxillary incisive tooth in the crossbreed calf: A case report
(Dicle Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi, 2021) Bademkıran, Servet; Alp, Simten Yeşilmen; Ekinci, Elif
In the examination of a five-year-old South Anatolian Red and a Simental cross-breed, dystocia was found to be related to the presentation disorder of the calf. In the clinical examination of the 24-kg male calf delivered by the extraction force, were found to have 7 incisive teeth pathologically in maxilla of the calf. In the following days, in the examinations of the cow, wounds on her mother's udder have appeared depending on the sucking of the calf and consequently mastitis detected. X-rays were taken from various angles to determine the root depth of the roots of the incisive teeth in the maxilla before the operation. Then, incisive teeth were removed with operation from the maxilla accompanied by mild sedation and local anesthesia. It was seen that the calf’s non closing mouth due to incisive teeth in maxilla before the operation, return to normal and there was no function problem.

Detection and molecular characterization of Clostridium perfringens, Paeniclostridium sordellii and Clostridium septicum from lambs and goat kids with hemorrhagic abomasitis in Turkey
(BioMed Central Ltd., 2023) Kalender, Hakan; Öngör, Hasan; Timurkaan, Necati; Karagülle, Burcu; Karabulut, Burak; İncili, Canan Akdeniz; Ekinci, Elif
Background: The pathogenic Clostridia cause neurotoxic, histotoxic and enterotoxic infections in humans and animals. Several Clostridium species have been associated with abomasitis in ruminants. The present study aimed to investigate the frequency, and the presence of virulence genes, of Clostridium perfringens, Paeniclostridium sordellii and Clostridium septicum in lambs and goat kids with hemorrhagic abomasitis. Results: A total of 38 abomasum samples, collected from lambs and goat kids of 1 week to 1 month of age in different farms located in eastern Turkey between 2021 and 2022, were evaluated by histopathology, culture and PCR. At necropsy, the abomasum of the animals was excessively filled with caseinized content and gas, and the abomasum mucosa was hemorrhagic in varying degrees. In histopathological evaluation, acute necrotizing hemorrhagic inflammation was noted in abomasum samples. The examination of swab samples by culture and PCR revealed that C. perfringens type A was the most frequently detected species (86.84%) either alone or in combination with other Clostridium species. P. sordellii, C. perfringens type F and C. septicum were also harboured in the samples, albeit at low rates. Beta2 toxin gene (cpb2) was found in three of C. perfringens type A positive samples. Conclusion: It was suggested that vaccination of pregnant animals with toxoid vaccines would be beneficial in terms of protecting newborn animals against Clostridial infections. This study investigated the presence of clostridial toxin genes in abomasal samples for the first time in Turkey.

Evaluation of the effect of local Bovine Amniotic Fluid on Osseointegration of Titanium Implants: A Histologic and Histomorphometric Study
(Univ Zulia, Facultad Ciencias Veterinarias, 2024) Istek, Ozmen; Tanrisever, Murat; Aydin, Melek Atille; Pak, Pinar; Eroksuz, Hatice; Karabulut, Burak; Ekinci, Elif
The aim of this study was to histologically and histomorphometrically investigate the effect of locally applied bovine amniotic fluid (BAF) on osseointegration levels in implants. Adult female Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 300-350 g were used as subjects. The rats were divided into two groups: the sham-operated control group (n=10) and the local BAF group (n=10). Implant cavities were created in the tibias of all subjects under sterile saline cooling with rotating instruments. Local BAF was applied to all implant sockets before the implants were placed. Rats were sacrificed after a four-week osseointegration period. Histological staining was performed using hematoxylin and eosin staining to analyze the osseointegration. Examinations of the bone implant connection (BIC) and peri-implant bone formation (PBF) were performed using a light microscope and an image analyzer. As a result of the analysis, the mean BIC value was 40.3 +/- 4.9 for the sham-operated control group and 45.2 +/- 7.7 for the local BAF group. The mean PBF was 39.9 +/- 6.3 for the sham control group and 40.5 +/- 5.7 for the local BAF group. A statistically significant difference was found between the sham control group and the local BAF group for the BIC and PBF values (P>0.05; P >0.05; P : 0.11; P : 0.83). The application of local BAF to the implant socket did not have a clear positive effect on implant osseointegration. More studies are needed to clarify the association between local BAF and osseointegration.
