Öğe Association Between the Rh Blood Group and the Covid-19 Susceptibility(Akad Doktorlar Yayinevi, 2020) Arac, Esref; Solmaz, Ihsan; Akkoc, Hasan; Donmezdil, Suleyman; Karahan, Zulkuf; Kaya, Safak; Mertsoy, YilmazWe aimed to investigate whether there is a predisposition to COVID-19 with ABO and Rh blood group systems. This study was a retrospective study that investigate the patients admitted to our hospital between March 16 -May 20 due to Covid-19 pandemic and conducted with data revealed from the hospital Information Management System A total of 392 patients were included in this study, including 227 PCR test positive patients with blood group information in the system and 165 possible patients with CT findings in favor of Covid-19. Data from a blood group study conducted with 127091 people in our province in 2019 were used as a control group. In our study, a significant increase was observed in the blood group A in patients diagnosed with Covid-19, and a decrease was found in the blood groups B, AB and especially O. However, statistical analysis showed no significant difference between Covid-19 patients and healthy individuals in terms of ABO blood group system. When analyzed in terms of Rh blood group system, it was found that Rh positivity was statistically significantly higher in patients with Covid-19 (p= 0.000). Our study suggests that the Rh (-) blood group is protective and the Rh (+) blood group is predisposed to Covid 19 significantly. We think that it is valuable because it is the first study to reveal the relationship between Covid-19 and blood type in our country and the only one to reveal the relationship between Covid-19 and Rh (+) in the world literature.Öğe Organic or psychosomatic? A cross-sectional study Organic or psychosomatic?(Bayrakol Medical Publisher, 2022) Donmezdil, Suleyman; Arac, Esref; Yesildal, Mahir; Guleken, Mehmet Diyadin; Tuzun, AbidinAim: Symptomatic treatments of psychosomatic symptoms are not successful because they cannot solve true etiological causes. To resolve the disorder, it is first necessary to investigate and diagnose the underlying cause and persuade the patient to use the appropriate drugs. In this study, it was aimed to make suggestions in order to identify patients who may have psychiatric symptoms and to prevent unnecessary invasive procedures by scanning psychosomatic symptoms prior to endoscopy indication. Material and Methods: The Cornell index, Beck depression and Anxiety scales, and the Somatization scale were applied to 140 patients whose EGD procedure was planned. The patients were divided into three groups as normal endoscopic examination, antral gastritis, and other disease diagnoses (erosive gastritis, gastric ulcer, etc.). Beck Depression and Beck Anxiety Inventory scores were statistically lower in other diagnostic groups than in normal endoscopic findings and antral gastritis groups. Also, scores on the somatization scale were significantly higher in normal endoscopic findings and antral gastritis groups compared to other diagnostic groups. Results: In patients who underwent EGD, the process was found to be more likely to cause normal endoscopic examination as the age decreased. In addition, somatization, Cornell index, anxiety and depression scores were higher at a young age. The Cornell Medical Index showed a significantly higher sub-score of the strong neurotic structure in the antral gastritis group compared to the other groups. Similarly, there were significantly higher scores for the subscales of depression, irritability-anxiety, fear-startle, psychosomatic symptoms, hypochondriasis, and gastrointestinal disorders in the antral gastritis group compared to other diagnostic groups Discussion: Our results show that applying the somatization scale or an equivalent screening scale to screen psychiatric symptoms before seeking endoscopic examination, especially in the young population, can provide early treatment and prevent increased treatment costs.Öğe Somatosensory Amplification, Anxiety, and Depression in Patients With Hepatitis B: Impact on Functionality(Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2016) Yilmaz, Ahmet; Ucmak, Feyzullah; Donmezdil, Suleyman; Kaya, Mehmet Cemal; Tekin, Recep; Gunes, Mehmet; Arslan, NecmiIn the present study, we aimed to determine the differences in body image along with anxiety and depression levels, and also to evaluate their impact on disability parameters in patients with hepatitis B.Our study comprised 77 patients with hepatitis B (n=41, chronic active patients; n=36, patients with inactive hepatitis B) and 53 healthy individuals (control group). Enrolled patients responded to several questionnaires, including a sociodemographic form, Sheehan Disability Scale (SDS), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and Somatosensory Amplification Scale.Patients with chronic active hepatitis B (CAHB) had higher levels of somatosensory perception than patients with inactive hepatitis B (IHB) and control group (P<0.001, P=0.001, respectively). Patients with CAHB had high scores on all the 3 domains of SDS (work/school, P<0.001; social life, P<0.001; and family life, P<0.001). Also, patients with CAHB had a significantly higher HADS total score, HADS anxiety score, and HADS depression score than control group (P<0.001, P<0.001, P<0.001, respectively). No significant difference was noted between patients with CAHB and patients with IHB with regard to HADS depression score; however, HADS anxiety and HADS total scores were significantly higher in the CAHB group (NS, P=0.027, P=0.035, respectively). Moreover, the IHB group exhibited higher scores for the work/school and social life domains of SDS than those of the control group (P=0.008, P=0.047).Although patients with CAHB may present with somatosensory amplification, anxiety, and depression, patients with IHB do not exhibit such symptoms. However, functionality is affected in both carrier and active patient groups. We believe that routine health checks of patients with hepatitis B should include psychiatric evaluation, psychiatric examination, and follow-up.Öğe Suicide Attempt with Paliperidone Overdose: A Case Report(Kure Iletisim Grubu A S, 2010) Bez, Yasin; Donmezdil, Suleyman; Sir, AytekinSuicide is a common problem seen in patients with schizophrenia. Taking overdoses of drugs is a well-known way for committing suicide. We report a case with schizophrenia, who attempted suicide with 243 mg. of paliperidone, a recently marketed atypical antipsychotic, and admitted to our emergency service with restlessness, agitation, mild confusion, and disorganized behavior. Gastric lavage, hydration, and 72 hours monitorization of the patient in intensive care unit ended without any sequelae. Our case, in addition to the limited available data, suggests paliperidone is a relatively safe drug in its overdoses.
