The Comparison of FLOT and DCF Regimens as Perioperative Treatment for Gastric Cancer
(Karger, 2024) Ucar, Gokhan; Sekmek, Serhat; Karahan, Irfan; Ergun, Yakup; Isak, ozlem Aydin; Tunc, Sezai; Dogan, Mutlu
Introduction: Locoregional gastric cancer is a still serious problem and perioperative treatments may improve the success of management. Different regimens were examined. The present study purposed to compare the efficacy of fl uorouracil-leucovorin-oxaliplatin-docetaxel (FLOT) and docetaxel-cisplatin-fluorouracil (DCF) regimens. Methods: A retrospective multicenter study assessed the patients with loco regional gastric cancer. There are 240 patients (137 DCF, 103 FLOT). Survival rates were compared. Results: Demographic features were similar between the two groups, but the time period was different. The FLOT group had 7.8% pathological complete response, while the DCF group did not. Disease-free survival was longer in the FLOT than in the DCF group (median not reached - 13.94 months, respectively). Median overall survival was similar (30.9 vs. 37.8 months), but median follow-up affected the analysis. Survival for 36 months was 63% for the FLOT group and 40% for the DCF group (log-rank; p = 0.015). Conclusion: FLOT regimen was superior to DCF regimen for response and survival rates. DCF is a historical approach. Long-term follow-up period is needed for FLOT treatment. (c) 2024 S. Karger AG, Basel

Easier and more explanatory indices by integrating leukocyte lymphocyte ratio (LLR) and prognostic nutritional index (PNI) to IPS systems in cases with classical Hodgkin lymphoma
(Pergamon-Elsevier Science Ltd, 2021) Paydas, Semra; Lacin, Sahin; Dogan, Mutlu; Barista, Ibrahim; Yildiz, Birol; Seydaoglu, Gulsah; Karadurmus, Nuri
The aim of this study is to determine the power of he international prognostic scoring systems (IPS-7 and IPS-3) and to obtain indices by integrating leukocyte lymphocyte ratio (LLR) and prognostic nutritional index (PNI) factors as prognostic indicators in cases with classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL). 1012 patients with cHL were evaluated with 2 different IPS-4 scores with four parameters: stage, age, hemoglobin level, and either LLR or PNI. Statistical package SPSS v 22.0 was used. Two different Cox regression models were obtained for OS and PFS. Model 1 showed LLR >= 5,8 as the highest risk for OS and anemia as the highest risk for PFS. Model 2 showed PNI <= 45,2 as the highest risk for OS and anemia as the highest risk for PFS. IPS-4 scores obtained by integrating either LLR or PNI to IPS-3 integration of a biologic parameter either LLR or PNI need to be determined with clinical risk scoring parameters.

Non-Urothelial Bladder Cancer: Comparison of Clinicopathological and Prognostic Characteristics in Pure Adenocarcinoma and Non-Bilharzial Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Bladder
(Karger, 2018) Erdem, Gokmen U.; Dogan, Mutlu; Sakin, Abdullah; Oruc, Zeynep; Yaman, Emel; Cinkir, Havva Yesil; Uysal, Mukremin
Objectives: The clinicopathological characteristics, treatment modalities, and effects on the prognosis of pure squamous cell carcinoma (SqCC) and adenocarcinoma (AC) were evaluated. Materials and Methods: 86 patients with pure SqCC and AC bladder cancer were evaluated retrospectively. Results: Of the 86 patients, 51 had SqCC and 35 had AC. No differences in clinicopathological characteristics were observed between patients with AC and SqCC, except for the prevalence of T4 disease (28.6% vs. 51.0%, respectively). In multivariate analysis, older age, stage IV disease, and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status (> 2) were predictive of a poor overall survival (OS). The median OS was significantly longer for stage I-III patients (82.9 months) treated with surgery +/- chemotherapy (CT) +/- radiotherapy (RT) than for those treated with transurethral resection +/- CT +/- RT (24.3 months) (P = 0.007). The median OS of patients with SqCC and AC who were given platinum-based CT for metastasis was 7.7 and 30.3 months, respectively. Conclusions: Advanced age, stage IV disease, and poor ECOG performance status were factors associated with a poor prognosis. Surgery +/- CT +/- RT resulted in significantly better OS, except in stage IV disease. Patients with metastatic AC had better response rates with platinum- based CT. (c) 2018 S.
