Öğe Chromosomal forms of the Mole Rat, Nannospalax nehringi (Satunin, 1898), from the Van Lake Basin in Eastern Turkey (Mammalia: Rodentia)(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2009) Coskun, Yueksel; Kaya, Alaettin; Yurumez, GokhanTwo different chromosomal forms of the Mole Rat, Nannospalax nehringi (Satunin, 1898), have been found in the Van Basin, Eastern Turkey: a population around the city of Van with 2n=48, NF=72 and NFa=68, and a population around the city of Bitlis with 2n=54, NF=74 and NFa=70. Both populations are confined to well-defined distribution areas. While both populations are separated in the south by Mt Suphan, an extinct volcano over 4000 m high, there is no geographic barrier between both populations in the north, and there seems to be a secondary contact zone. The Van population constitutes a new chromosomal form of Mole Rat in Turkey, and could be regarded as a sibling species. However, no taxomomic decision is taken until more evidence on the evolution of these forms has become available.Öğe A comparative karyological and serological study on two populations of Nannospalax nehringi (Satunin 1898) from Turkey(Univ Oradea Publ House, 2009) Uluturk, Servet; Coskun, Yueksel; Arikan, HueseyinTaxonomy of mole rats (Nannospalax) is highly provisional and the genus is in a need of a thorough revision. In this investigation, 23 (13 males, 10 females) specimens from the Central East (Malatya, Sivas) and Northeast (Kars, Ardahan) Anatolian provinces, were studied karyologically and twelve of these specimens (7 males, 5 females) were employed to analyse electrophoretic patterns of their blood proteins (serology). This study indicated chromosomal separation of both region (2n=50, NF=82, NFa=78 and 2n=60, NF=70, NFa=66). The separation of both regions was supported by the differences obtained in serograms in which blood serum proteins were composed by 11 fractions belonging to the 2n=50 chromosomal specimens and by 10 fractions in 2n=60 chromosomal specimens. Therefore the serological data obtained from this study support the results of the present and earlier karyological studies showing that populations of mole rats in both regions are karyologically and genetically distinct one from another. It is suggested that these two populations could be assigned to separate putative biological species.Öğe First earthworm records in Mesopotamia (Oligochaetae)(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2009) Pavlicek, Tomas; Csuzdi, Csaba; Coskun, Yueksel[Abstract Not Available]Öğe KARYOTYPES OF NANNOSPALAX (PALMER 1903) POPULATIONS (RODENTIA: SPALACIDAE) FROM CENTRAL-EASTERN ANATOLIA, TURKEY(Assoc Teriologica Italiana, 2010) Coskun, Yueksel; Uluturk, Servet; Kaya, Alaettn[Abstract Not Available]
