Öğe Antidiabetic properties of lyophilized extract of acorn (Quercus brantii Lindl.) on experimentally STZ-induced diabetic rats(Elsevier Ireland Ltd, 2015) Dogan, Abdulahad; Celik, Ismail; Kaya, Mehmet SalihEthnopharmacological relevance: Acorn obtained from the Quercus brantii Lindl. (QB) tree has been used in Turkish folk medicine. Some studies have reported as an antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, gastroprotective, antitumoural of QB properties previously, however, its effect on the management of type diabetic 2 and oxidative stress complications is still unexplored. The aims of our study were the evaluation of the protective effect and antioxidant role of acorn lyophilized seed plant extract against STZ-induced diabetic complications as oxidative stress, hepatotoxicity and nephropathy, lipidemia and serum biomarkers of diabetes (SBD). Materials and methods: In-vivo studies were performed on STZ-induced diabetic rats Experiment was designed as I [Normal Control (NC)], II [Diabetes mellitus (DM)], III [DM+Acarbose (20 mg/kg b.w) (DM+AC-20)], IV [DM+ QB (100 mg/kg b.w) (DM+QB-100)], V [DM+QB (250 mg/kg b.w) (DM+ QB-250)] and VI [DM+QB (500 mg/kg b.w) (DM+QB-500)] groups. Results: This study showed that the biochemical analysis showed a considerable increase in the HRDB, DB, LP, MDA and fluctuated ADSC in the II group as compared to that of control group whereas, AC and the plant lyophilized seed plant extract supplementations diet restored the STZ-induced diabetic complications towards the control. alpha-glycosidase activity in DM group showed statistically significant increase with respect to control group in small intestine. Moreover, in accordance with the effects of seed extract; in diabetic rat groups to whom acorn seed extract and acarbose were given, the levels of almost all the concerned parameters were reached to the ones measured at control group. As a result, it was concluded that acorn seed extract had certain healing effects on many complications caused by diabetes. (c) 2015 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. Methods: The data was collected from 1635 patients with melanoma through a web-based registry system in 22 centers. Herein we present the results of 1157 patients with cutaneous melanoma. Results: The patient median age was 56.4 years and 646 (55.8%) were males. The commonest subtype was superficial spreading type (357, 30.9%). The commonest primary site was the lower extremities (N=353, 30.5%). The most common Breslow thickness was 1-2 mm (361 patients, 43.5%). Only 104 (12.5%) patients had a thickness <1mm. Among 694 patients with available data, 136 (19.6%) presented with stage 4 disease while the most frequent stage was stage 3, encountered in 393 (56.6% patients). Conclusion: Our melanoma registry is the largest in our country providing a snapshot view of cutaneous melanoma and its care. Our patients presented with more advanced stages and they had worse prognosis compared to SEER database.Öğe Gastric cancer in Turkey(Oxford Univ Press, 2006) Icli, Fikri; Yalcin, Bulent; Ozdemir, Feyyaz; Isikdogan, Abdurrahman; Celik, Ismail; Unsal, Diclehan; Coskun, Senol[Abstract Not Available]Öğe Influence of Indole-3-butyric acid on antioxidant defense systems in various tissues of rats at subacute and subchronic exposure(Pergamon-Elsevier Science Ltd, 2009) Topalca, Nuray; Yegin, Esref; Celik, IsmailThis study was carried out to investigate the effects of Indole-3-butyric acid (IBA), a plant growth regulator (PGR), on antioxidant defense systems (ADS) such as reduced glutathione (GSH) level and Glutathione-S-transferase (GST), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzymes activity in various tissues of rats exposed to 25 and 50 ppm dosages of IBA for 20 and 45 days. Results showed that the administrations of IBA fluctuated GSH levels in some tissues of rats treated with both dosages and periods. With regard to the ADS enzymes, SOD and GST activities increased significantly in the most of the tissues in rats treated with both dosages and periods of IBA. Also, GSH-Px activity fluctuated after subacute and subchronic exposure with both dosages in some of the tissues in rats compared to that the control rats. The observations presented led us to conclude that the administrations of IBA at subacute and subchronic affected the ADS system in various tissues of rats. This may reflect the potential role of these parameters as useful biomarkers for toxicity of IBA. Crown Copyright (C) 2009 Published by Elsevier Ltd. Murat; Celik, IsmailIn this study, the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions for soybean cultivated in Adana province according to conventional tillage practices for chisel tillage with stubble burning (CT), and conservational tillage practices with stubble for disc tillage (DT), rotary tillage (RT) and direct seeding (DS) were determined. Soil carbon dioxide (CO2) emission measurements were started after tillage using a portable CO2 measurement system and were carried out at various intervals over a period of 55 days. According to the obtained results, CO2 emissions in CT, DT, RT and DS treatments were determined as 0.028, 0.036, 0.029, and 0.025 g CO2 m(-2) h(-1), respectively. It was determined that the CO2 emission level in the DS treatment was lower in comparison with those of the other three treatments. The soil evaporation (H2O) amounts were determined for CT, DT, RT and DS treatments as 4.37, 4.38, 4.21 and 3.50 g H2O m(-2) h(-1), respectively. Soil temperature was measured on average for CT, DT, RT and DS treatments as 28.7, 28.8, 28.7 and 28.9 degrees C, respectively. The average soil evaporation of DS treatment was found to be lower than the other three treatments. The difference between the soil moisture depending on treatment was not significant.
