Öğe Autotransplantation of an Intruded Lateral Incisor Replacing an Avulsed Central Incisor-A Case Report(Journal Pedodontics Inc, 2009) Bolgul, Behiye Sezgin; Agackiran, Engin; Celenk, Sema; Ayna, BuketOral injuries cause aesthetic, psychological, social, and therapeutic problems and also effect a large number of people, causing irreparable dental loss not only at the accident time but also during post-treatment. Missing permanent teeth by trauma it children is a particular challenge, especially in the anterior region of the maxilla. It the past few decades, tooth transplantation has been successfully researched for the treatment of anterior tooth loss in Young individuals. effective: The present case describes transplantation of an excessive intrusive maxillary left lateral incisor into the socket of avulsed maxillary left central incisor. Study design: The lateral incisor tooth was extracted cold placed into the socket of avulsed tooth. Splinting was maintained for 2 weeks. After the root canal treatment, the crown of the lateral incisor tooth was reshaped with composite resin in central tooth form and performed an interim prosthesis both preventing movement of the canine tooth into the space of the transplanted lateral incisor tooth and providing aesthetic. Conclusion: The treatment provided is considered to be an interim solution for space maintenance, with time the child patient may reach an age that allows alternative, more definitive treatment as implant.Öğe Bilateral twinned teeth and multiple supernumerary teeth(Quintessence Publishing Co Inc, 2008) Tumen, Emin Caner; Hamamci, Nihal; Kaya, Filiz Acun; Tumen, Demet Suer; Celenk, SemaDental twinning can result from the fusion of the developing dental germinal elements or the gemination of a single germ. In bilateral anterior and posterior dental twinning, problems such as poor esthetics, dental caries, arch-length problems, and periodontal disease often occur as a result of the irregular morphology. Several treatment methods have been described in the literature with respect to the different types and morphologic variations of twinned teeth, including endodontic, restorative, surgical, periodontal, and orthodontic treatment. This report documents the case of a young patient with an exceedingly rare phenomenon of permanent twinned teeth and multiple supernumerary teeth in both sides of the mandibular and maxillary arches, as a result of combined fusion and gemination.Öğe A comparison of estimated age based on pulp volume from cone beam computed tomography (CT) images and panoramic radiography data with chronological age(Mre Press, 2024) Polat, Yelda; Celenk, SemaThis retrospective study was conducted to evaluate different methods for dental age estimation in children and to examine the feasibility of using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) data for age estimation. A total of 200 radiographic records (both digital panoramic radiographs and CBCTs) were acquired from 100 children aged 9 to 16 years, all taken on the same dates. Radiographic data was acquired from archived records and included both panoramic radiography and CBCT data belonging to the same individual. CBCT was used when panoramic radiographic data was insufficient. The pulp volume and pulp/tooth volume ratio of the left first molar teeth in the mandible were calculated from the CBCT data using MIMICS software. In addition, age was estimated by the Demirjian and Willems methods from data obtained from panoramic radiography images. Statistical analyses and linear regression analysis were performed as necessary. There was a statistically significant difference between the mean difference between the Demirjian method and chronological age, and between the Willems method and chronological age (p < 0.001). Statistically significance was achieved in a linear regression model created from pulp volume (R-2 = 0.098) and pulp/tooth volume ratio (R-2 = 0.395) data for the estimated dental age analysis (p < 0.001) and a negative correlation was observed with chronological age. When compared estimated dental age from CBCT data with chronological age, the pulp/tooth volume ratio method yielded results closer to chronological age than using only pulp volume data. When considering both panoramic radiographic age estimation methods and age estimation methods using CBCT data, we found that the results obtained with the Willems method, a panoramic radiographic age estimation technique, provided the closest results to the chronological age. More contributions should be made to the literature regarding the feasibility of age estimation using pulp and tooth volume as an alternative method.Öğe Comparison of the clinical efficacy of two different types of post systems which were restored with composite restorations(Baishideng Publishing Group Inc, 2018) Ayna, Buket; Ayna, Emrah; Celenk, Sema; Basaran, Emine Goncu; Yilmaz, Berivan Dundar; Tacir, Ibrahim Halil; Tuncer, Mehmet CudiAIM To compare the efficacy of resin composite restorations, retained with either polyethylene or zirconia-rich glass fiber posts. METHODS Sixty-two single rooted maxillary and mandibular central incisor teeth in forty-four patients (15 males and 29 females; age range 15-32 years) were restored either with an ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWP) fiber post (Bondable Reinforcement Ribbon, DENSE, Ribbond, Seattle, WA, United States) or a zircon-rich glass fiber post (Snowpost, Lot H 040; Carbotech, Ganges, France). Then, direct resin composite restoration (Clearfil AP-X, Kuraray) was performed for both post systems in tooth color suitable. Patients were recalled for routine inspections at 6 mo, 1, 2 and 3 years. RESULTS The restorations were assessed during each recall evaluation according to predetermined clinical and radiographic criteria (periapical lesion; marginal leakage and integrity; color stability; surface stain and loss of retention of the post or the composite buildup material). The follow-up data showed no significant difference in these criteria between polyethylene fibre posts and zirconia-rich glass fibre posts. CONCLUSION The efficacy of resin composite restorations, retained with either polyethylene or zirconia-rich glass fiber posts were similar, suggesting that both types of fiber post can be used successfully to help retain resin composite restorations.Öğe Comparison of traditional and novel remineralization agents: A laser fluorescence study(Kerman Univ Medical Sciences, 2020) Aras, Ahmet; Celenk, Sema; Atas, OsmanBACKGROUND AND AIM: The first clinical symptom of tooth decay is the appearance of a white spot lesion (WSL) on the tooth surface. This study is performed with the aim to evaluate the efficacy of six different remineralization agents in vitro with the DIAGNOdent laser fluorescence method. METHODS: In this study, 44 extracted, impacted human wisdom teeth (88 specimens) without caries were used to obtain standard demineralized enamel surfaces. The teeth were divided into eight groups consisting of two control (positive and negative) and six experimental groups [Fluoride (F) gel, casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP) cream, CPPACP + F cream, NovaMin + F toothpaste, Xylitol-Hydroxyapatite + F cream, and Ozone + F]. De-/re-mineralization solutions were applied with a pH-cycle approach to areas of 3 x 3 mm on the buccal/lingual surfaces of the teeth for 9 days. The remineralization agents were applied to the demineralized areas and the samples were then kept in artificial saliva. The DIAGNOdent measurements were performed before and after the application of the remineralization agents. The Wilcoxon and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used for analysis of the data. RESULTS: The mean scores obtained after the DIAGNOdent measurements were 3.82 and 6.91 in the negative-control and positive-control groups, respectively. There were significant differences in the scores before and after the remineralization procedure in all experimental groups (P < 0.050). When the mean differences before and after treatment were compared between the groups, CPP-ACP + F provided significantly more remineralization than other experimental groups (P < 0.050). CONCLUSION: Remineralization of demineralized areas was achieved in all experimental groups. The highest degree of remineralization according to the DIAGNOdent scores before and after the procedure was observed in the CPP-ACP + F group.Öğe Endodontic and prosthetic treatment of teeth with periapical lesions in a 16-year-old-girl(Univ Sao Paulo Fac Odontologia Bauru, 2010) Ayna, Buket; Ayna, Emrah; Celenk, SemaThis paper reports the nonsurgical endodontic therapy using calcium hydroxide intracanal dressing and prosthetic treatment of 9 teeth with periapical lesions in a 16-year-old female patient. The periodontal treatment plan included oral hygiene instructions, mechanical debridement and gingivectomy in the maxillary incisors to improve gingival contouring. Root canal treatment was indicated for teeth 11-13, 21, 22, 42-45. After successive changes of a calcium hydroxide intracanal dressing during 6 weeks, the size of the periapical radiolucencies decreased and lesion remission occurred after root canal obturation. The endodontically treated teeth received a bondable polyethylene reinforcement fiber (Ribbond) in the prepared canal space and crown buildup was done with composite resin. Prosthetic rehabilitation was planned with single-unit metal-ceramic crowns and fixed partial dentures. Clinical and radiographic evaluation after 6 months showed successful results. The outcomes of this case showed that chronic periapical lesions can respond favorably to nonsurgical endodontic treatment in adolescent patients and that, with proper indication, polyethylene fibers can provide an effective conservative and esthetic option for reinforcing endodontically treated teeth undergoing prosthetic rehabilitation.Öğe Microleakage of novel glass ionomer restoration in cavities prepared by Er,Cr:YSGG laser: An in-vitro study(Wolters Kluwer Medknow Publications, 2020) Atas, Osman; Celenk, Sema; Aras, AhmetAim: To compare the microleakage of novel materials containing glass ionomer, which are applied to standard class V cavities prepared by Er,Cr:YSGG (erbium, chromium-doped yttrium, scandium, gallium, and garnet) laser and by conventional diamond bur in primary teeth. Materials and Methods: Fifty non-carious primary molar teeth were randomly divided into five main groups and restored with various materials containing glass ionomers (Group 1: Equia System; Group 2: Fuji IX GP; Group 3: Fuji II LC; Group 4: Dyract Extra; and Group 5: Giomer). Each group was divided into two subgroups according to laser and conventional preparation methods. Results: As for the gingival margin, in terms of leakage values, no statistically significant difference was observed between drill and Er,Cr:YSGG laser although less microleakage values were obtained in Er,Cr:YSGG laser groups 1 and 4 (P > 0.05). Among groups prepared by drill, the lowest leakage rates observed at the gingival margin are Equia System, Giomer, Dyract Extra, Fuji II LC, and Fuji IX GP, respectively. Among groups prepared by Er,Cr:YSGG laser, the lowest leakage rates observed in the gingival edge are Equia System, Giomer = Dyract Extra, Fuji IX GP, and Fuji II LC, respectively. Conclusion: Occlusal and gingival microleakage scores were the lowest in the groups restored with Equia system in the cavities prepared by both diamond bur and laser system. Equia system consisting of high-viscosity glass ionomer cement and nano-filled surface coat G-Coat Plus materials could be used successfully in pediatric dentistry.Öğe Oral Manifestations of Lamellar Ichthyosis; A Case Report(Iranian Scientific Society Medical Entomology, 2009) Bolgul, Behiye; Hamamci, Nihal; Akdeniz, Sedat; Celenk, SemaBackground: The name ichthyosis is derived from the Greek ikhthus meaning fish and refers to the similarity in appearance of the skin to fish scale. The ichthyoses are a heterogeneous group of disorders. There are few studies about the oral manifestations of these disorders. But early reports of ichthyosis in the Indian and Chinese literature date back to several hundred years. Case Presentation: Oral manifestations of the 14-year-old female patient with ichthyosis are presented. Physical examination revealed thick, brownish scales covering the entire body surface including all larger body flexures and corneae. She had short and dry hair. There were no nail abnormalities and hearing loss. Conclusion: We consider that this patient represents a new manifestation of lamellar ichthyosis disease, because congenitally teeth missing and cephalometric analysis measurements have not been reported before.Öğe Restoring function and esthetics in 2 patients with amelogenesis imperfecta: Case report(Quintessence Publishing Co Inc, 2007) Ayna, Emrah; Celenk, Sema; Kadiroglu, Ela TulesThis case report describes the prosthodontic treatment for a 28-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy diagnosed with amelogenesis imperfecta. The aim of treatment was to reduce dental sensitivity and to restore esthetics and masticatory function. Because of the socioeconomic status of the patients, direct resin composite laminate veneers were used to improve the esthetics of their maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth. Clinical examination 12 months after treatment revealed no evidence of disorders associated with the restored teeth or their supporting structures. Definitive treatment outcomes in terms of function and esthetics satisfied the expectations of both the patient and the interdisciplinary team.Öğe A retrospective study on root canal treatment of first permanent molars in children aged 8-16 years(Kerman Univ Medical Sciences, 2022) Gunay, Ayse; Cakmakoglu, Ezgi Eroglu; Satiroglu, Emine Tatar; Celenk, SemaBackground: This retrospective study aimed to investigate the distribution of root canal treatment (RCT) procedures performed on first permanent molars according to age, sex, mandible, maxilla, right jaw, and left jaw in a group of children. Methods: The records of RCT of a total of 6286 first permanent molar teeth of 5432 patients aged 8-16 years who visited the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, Dicle University, Turkey from 2013 to 2018 were examined. Moreover, parameters such as age, gender, lower jaw, upper jaw, right jaw, and left jaw were evaluated. Frequency analysis and Pearson correlation test were used for statistical analysis and the level of significance was set at P< 0.05.Results: The results of this study indicated that most of the boys (31.97%) received RCT of the lower left first molar tooth and most of the girls (34.21%) received RCT of the lower right first molar tooth. The tooth most receiving RCT was the mandibular right first permanent molar (33.09%). The tooth least receiving RCT was the maxillary right first permanent molar tooth (16.59%). In general, RCT was performed on the maxillary jaw less than on the mandibular. Conclusion: RCT of first permanent molars showed variability according to age and position of jaws. RCT was performed more on the mandibular jaw than on the maxillary. It was observed that the incidence of RCT generally increased with age.Öğe Significance of Oral Symptoms in Early Diagnosis and Treatment of Celiac Disease(Ortadogu Ad Pres & Publ Co, 2009) Bolguel, Behiye Sezgin; Arslanoglu, Zeki; Tumen, Emin Caner; Yavuz, Izzet; Celenk, Sema; Atakul, FatmaObjective: To examine the frequency of oral symptoms in celiac disease and to underline their importance. Material and Methods: In the present study, we compared the prevalence of enamel defects, caries, recurrent oral aphthous stomatites, and risk factors of dental caries [levels of salivary mutans streprococci (MS) and Lactobacilli (LB)] between patients diagnosed with celiac disease, and healthy controls. A total of 82 patients with celiac disease and 110 healthy subjects were studied. Results: Dental enamel defects were found in 33 (40.2%) of the 82 celiac patients and 8 (7.2%) out of 110 control subjects. Enamel defects were significantly more common in celiac patients (p=0.000). All of the 33 celiac patients with enamel defect had specific dental enamel defects. Statistical analysis showed significantly more specific enamel defects in celiac patients than in control subjects (p=0.000). Regarding recurrent oral aphthous stomatitis (RAS), neither the celiac patients nor the healthy subjects had aphthous ulcers. Healthy individuals had significantly more caries lesions than celiac patients did (p=0.000). Conclusion: Early diagnosis and consequent gluten-free diet may prevent or reduce oral lesions. Dentists play an important role in recognizing patients with celiac disease by means of oral findings.
