Öğe The effect of breathing and relaxation exercises training on psychological well-being and sleep quality in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia: A randomized controlled study(Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, 2024) Üşenmez, Tülay Yıldırım; Budak, Funda KavakThis study was conducted to determine the effect of breathing and relaxation exercises training on psychological wellbeing and sleep quality in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. This study was conducted at a community mental health center between October 2022 and April 2023 as a randomized controlled study with a pretest-posttest control group. The study's participants were 64 individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia (31 in the experimental group and 33 in the control group). The Descriptive Characteristics Form, the Psychological Well-being Scale, and the Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index were used to collect data. The individuals in the experimental group underwent 6 sessions of breathing and relaxation exercises training in the form of group training, and no training was applied to the individuals in the control group. It was determined that the individuals in the experimental group had an increase in the total mean score of psychological well-being and a decrease in the total mean score of sleep quality after breathing and relaxation exercise training. In addition, a statistically significant difference was found between the posttest psychological wellbeing and sleep quality total mean scores of the experimental and control groups (P < .05). It can be said that breathing and relaxation exercises training can be used as an effective intervention to increase the psychological well-being and sleep quality of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia and can be used in addition to pharmacological treatment.Öğe Effect of Internalized Stigma on Peer Relationships in Adolescents with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder(Georg Thieme Verlag Kg, 2023) Usenmez, Tulay Yildirim; Durmaz, Gulbeyaz Baran; Budak, Funda KavakThis study aimed to determine the effect of internalized stigma on peer relationships in adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The study was conducted in a Special Education and Rehabilitation Center between August and September 2022. The correlational and cross-sectional study sample consisted of 70 adolescents with ADHD. The Descriptive Characteristics Form, the Internalized Stigma Scale for Children and Adolescents, and the Peer Relationship Scale were used to collect the data. It was determined that the mean total score of internalized stigma levels of adolescents was 93.24 (16.16), and the mean total score of peer relationships was 53.78 (10.76). It was determined that there was a strong negative correlation between the total score of internalized stigma and peer relationships ( r = - 0.748, p = 0.001). In addition, it was determined that internalized stigma predicted peer relationships by 55%. It can be said that internalized stigma and peer relationships of adolescents are moderate, and as adolescents' internalized stigma levels increased, their peer relationships decreased.Öğe The effect of negative automatic thoughts on hope in patients with schizophrenia(Wiley, 2021) Budak, Funda Kavak; Yildirim, Tulay; Ozdemir, AyselPurpose The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of negative automatic thoughts on hope in patients with schizophrenia. Design and Methods The sample size of the study was calculated to be 94 patients through the power analysis. The study was completed with 115 patients who met the inclusion criteria. descriptive characteristics form, automatic thoughts questionnaire-negative, and dispositional hope scale were used to collect the data. Findings In the study, it was found that there was a negative strong correlation between negative automatic thoughts and hope levels. In addition, the negative automatic thoughts of the patients had a statistical significance in accounting for hope (p < .05) and the negative automatic thoughts predicted the hope by 66%. Practice Implications In the study, it was found that the patients had high negative automatic thoughts and moderate level of hopes. As negative automatic thoughts increased, hope decreased.Öğe The Effect of Psychological Resilience on Hope in Individuals With Schizophrenia(Slack Inc, 2022) Usenmez, Tulay Yildirim; Budak, Funda Kavak; Ayhan, Mehmet OsmanThis study aimed to determine the effect of psychological resilience on hope in individuals with schizophre-nia. This was a cross-sectional study. One hundred and one (101) individu-als diagnosed with schizophrenia were included in the study. The Descriptive Characteristics Form, Brief Resilience Scale (BRS), and Herth Hope Scale (HHS) were used to collect data. A pos-itive and moderate correlation was ob-served between the individuals' mean total HHS scores and mean total BRS scores (P < .05, r = 0.508). Additionally, as a result of regression analysis, hope was found to be associated with 25% of the total variance in psychological resil-ience. The results of this study indicate that as the psychological resilience of the individuals increased, their hope levels increased, or as the hope levels of the individuals increased, their psy-chological resilience increased. [Psy-chiatr Ann. 2022;52(11):477-483.]Öğe The effect of self-esteem on loneliness in individuals with schizophrenia(Slack Inc, 2023) Üşenmez, Tülay Yıldırım; Budak, Funda Kavak; Ayhan, Mehmet OsmanThe aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of self-esteem on loneliness in persons with schizophrenia. This study was conducted between August 2020 and August 2021 at a community mental health center affiliated with a research and training hospital in Turkey. This was a cross-sectional study that included 100 individuals with schizophrenia. A Descriptive Characteristics Form (DCF), the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), and the University of California Los Angeles Loneliness Scale (UCLA-LS) were used for data collection. The individuals' total mean scores were 2.47 +/- 1.24 for RSES and 56.42 +/- 10.00 for UCLA-LS. A moderate negative correlation was found between these scores (r = -0.526, P < 0.01). The results revealed that the persons with schizophrenia had a moderate level of self-esteem and a high level of loneliness, possibly indicating that as self-esteem increases, loneliness levels may decrease.Öğe The effect of spiritual well-being on acceptance of illness in patients with type II diabetes mellitus(2022) Yıldırım, Tulay; Budak, Funda KavakAim: The current study was conducted to evaluate the effect of spiritual well-being levels on acceptance of illness in individuals with Type II Diabetes Mellitus (TIIDM). Methods: The study was conducted in a University Hospital Diabetes Education Center, Endocrine and Metabolism clinic and polyclinic between September and December 2021. The current study was of a cross-sectional type, and it was consisted of 110 individuals with TIIDM. Individual Information Form (IIF), Acceptance of Illness Scale (AIS), and Spiritual Well-being Scale (FACIT-Sp) were utilized to collect data. Results: It was determined that individuals’ acceptance of illness scores were 21.85±3.93, and their spiritual well-being scores were 21.13±8.66. A statistically positive weak correlation was determined between the individuals' total mean scores of FACIT-Sp and AIS (p<0.05, r=0.434). The spiritual well-being levels predicted the acceptance of illness by 18%. Conclusion: It can be said that the individuals with TIIDM had mild levels of acceptance of illness and spiritual well-being. In addition, it was determined that as the individuals’ spiritual well-being levels increased, their acceptance of illness levels also increased.Öğe The Effect of spiritual well-being on hope in immobile patients suffering from paralysis due to spinal cord injuries(Springer, 2022) Üşenmez, Tülay Yıldırım; Budak, Funda Kavak; Yılmaz, RıdvanThis study aimed to determine the effect of spiritual well-being on hope in immobile patients suffering from paralysis due to spinal cord injuries. The sample size of this cross-sectional study was determined to be 100 immobile patients suffering from paralysis due to spinal cord injuries via power analysis. "Descriptive Characteristics Form," "Spiritual Well-being Scale," and "Dispositional Hope Scales" were used to collect the data. It was determined that participants' spiritual well-being scores were 22.25 +/- 9.62 and their hope scores were 29.53 +/- 9.83. There was a weak but positive correlation between the total scores on the hope scale and the spiritual well-being scale (p = 0.001, r = 0.477). Among immobile patients suffering from paralysis due to spinal cord injury, spiritual well-being levels accounted for 22% of the variance in hope levels (p = 0.001, R-2 = 0.22). This study showed that as patients' spiritual well-being levels increased, their hope levels also increased.
