Öğe Effect of conversation maps based diabetes education on metabolic parameters in diabetes(Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Hemşirelik Fakültesi, 2018) Besen, Dilek Büyükkaya; Vatansever, Özgül; Bektaş, Aysun Belgin; Aydın, Nalan; Sürücü, Hamdiye ArdaObjective: The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of Conversation Map Based Diabetes Education on metabolic parameters. Methods: This is an intervention study in order to examine the effect of conversation maps education programme on the A1c levels, blood lipid levels and waist circumference of the individuals with type 2 diabetes. Results: The concerned values of the individuals with diabetes before the education and in the 3rd and 6th months after the education were found to be as follows respectively: A1c levels 9.14 ± 2.05, 7.11 ± 1.45 and 7.21 ± 1.38 (p = .000); Triglyceride averages 195.77 ± 88.39, 162.30 ± 74.10 and 163.40 ± 59.35 (p = .022); HDL cholesterol averages 39.76 ± 8.51, 42.38 ± 9.04 and 43.40 ± 9.37 (p = .008) and waist circumference averages 101.38 ± 13.63, 99.08 ± 12.81 and 100.38 ± 14.29 (p = .032). Conclusion: It is recommended to conduct group trainings based on conversation maps. It is also recommended that the training given through the conversation map programme should be evaluated through randomized controlled works.Öğe Empathic approach to reducing the negative attitudes of nursing undergraduate students towards cancer(Churchill Livingstone, 2021) Sürücü, Hamdiye Arda; Topdemir, Esra Anuş; Baksi, Altun; Besen, Dilek BüyükkayaBackground: In cases where even professional nurses have difficulty in giving care to cancer patients, student nurses may not be able to provide adequate care and sometimes develop a negative behavior or attitude towards this patient group. Objectives: The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between the attitudes of nursing undergraduate students towards cancer and the empathic approach. Design: The study was carried out using the cross-sectional research design. Settings: A university located in the southeast of Turkey between November-December 2020. Participants: Nursing students from one Turkey nursing school. Methods: The research data were collected using the Personal Information Form, Questionnaire for Measuring Attitudes towards Cancer (Cancer Stigma) (QMAC) - Community Version, and Jefferson's Empathy Scale for Nursing Students (JESNS). Results: 240 students volunteered to participate in the study, and the rate of the students' response to the questionnaires was 52%. Of all the nursing students, 66.2% of them were female; 45.4% had a moderate perception of their economic status; 94.2% had no chronic disease; 90.4% had no family history regarding cancer; 67.9% had never been in an oncology clinic, and 59.2 of them had received training on empathy. When nursing students' attitudes towards cancer were examined, it was seen that empathic approach (13 = -0.291; p < .01) and chronic disease treatment received (13 = 0.174; p = .005) were found to be significant predictors. Conclusions: The results revealed that the nursing undergraduate students' negative perception of cancer decreased as their empathic skills increased. In addition, the students' receiving treatment for chronic diseases increased their negative perception of cancer. In order to reduce the negative attitudes of nursing students towards cancer, more trainings, lectures and seminars or clinical skills training regarding the development of empathic skills could be included in the undergraduate nursing curriculum.Öğe Tip 2 diyabeti olan bireylere verilen eğitimin (sohbet haritasına dayalı) ayak bakım davranışlarına ve diyabetik ayak risk faktörlerine etkisi(Ortadoğu Reklam Tanitim Yayincilik Turizm Egitim Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S., 2018) Besen, Dilek Büyükkaya; Aydın, Nalan; Bektaş, Belgin; Vatansever, Özgül; Sürücü, Hamdiye ArdaObjective: The most common cause of amputations in diabetes patients is the foot ulcer. The most prevalent factors leading to ulcer include neuropathy, deformity and traumas. Defining the foot risk factors for all diabetes patients and giving related education constitute the most important way of preventing foot ulcer. The purpose of the present study was to examined the influence of education given with the method of Conversation Map (Diabetes conversations) on Type-2 diabetes individuals' diabetic foot behaviors and on the diabetic foot risk factors. Material and Methods: The study was carried out using the descriptive method with the records of diabetes individuals who were all registered to a diabetes education center of a university hospital and who took education with the method of conversation maps. Within the scope of the study, four training sessions based on conversation maps were held with diabetes patients. In the study, the 12th-month foot care behaviors of individuals before and after the education process and the diabetic foot risk factors were compared. Results: The results revealed a significant change over time-before and after the education process-between the 12th-month foot care behaviors of diabetes individuals who took group education with the conversation map method with respect to foot care efficiency, foot care frequency, and with respect to the diabetic foot risk factors of temperature and humidity. Conclusion: The results of the study demonstrated that the map-based program had positive influence on the patients' diabetic foot behaviors. For the purpose of evaluating the effectiveness of the education given based on the conversation map, future studies could be carried out with larger research samples using the randomized controlled design.
