    Evaluation of folk architecture according to the viewpoint of folklore sample of Harran houses

    Turkish folk architecture is one of our national values which still protect it's actuality in countrysides and it has a major importance in the viewpoint of folklore. Unfortunately, the countless samples of this architecture style, which creates various landscapes in countrysides with it's different variety of plastics are gradually decreasing day by day. However, obviously Turkish folk architecture keeps a big quantity of materials for folklore archives. Folk architecture samples, which constitute a natural decoration for every moment and function of daily life are like a natural and alive etnographic museum which includes various equipments and every sort of usage objects as well. On the other hand, majority of today's works about this subject explain stereo type and residences architecture of one particular region. Generally, folklorists when being interested in oral cultural products have been away from material cultural wealth. The subject has been left to the eveluation of architecture and art historians. Harran with it's traditional tissue and historical riches is one of the interesting sample of folk architecture. This work has aim to expose our values which has tended to be forgotten by dealing with the domed houses which exist in the architectural tissue of Harran in the viewpoint of folklore and also add new interpretations to future's desings.

    Examining the influence of technology and project-supported thinking journey on achievement

    The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the technology and project-supported Thinking Journey on 11th grade high school students' achievements in the subject of electricity units. The participants were 68 high school 11th grade students from two different science classes. Control and experimental groups were selected at random. The data collection tools were the Electricity Achievement Test consisting of 39 multiple-choice questions and a semi-structured interview form. In the study, the experimental group was taught using the technology and project-supported Thinking Journey while the control group was taught using teachercentered teaching methods. The Electricity Achievement Test was applied as pre-test and post-test to both experimental and control groups. The data were analyzed with independent group t-tests. Findings suggest that a significant difference was found between the experimental and control group students' Electricity Achievement post-test mean scores in favor of the experimental group with respect to sub-dimensions of Bloom's taxonomy. According to the analysis of the interviews, the experimental group students reported their satisfaction with the applications in the study. © The Turkish Online Journal of Educational Technology.

    Influence of animation-supported project-based instruction method on environmental literacy and self-efficacy in environmental education

    The present study conducted to establish effective environmental education investigated the influence of the project-based environmental education method supported with computer animations and of the traditional environmental education method on students' environmental literacy and on their self-efficacy beliefs in giving environmental education. For this purpose, an environmental literacy scale and a scale for self-efficacy perception of environmental education were applied to the participating students. In this experimental study, the pretest and posttest model was applied to the experimental and control groups. The study was carried out with 75 second-grade teacher candidates attending the department of Elementary School Teaching at Ziya Gokalp Education Faculty, Dicle University. The results of the statistical analyses revealed that the project-based instruction method supported with computer animations was more influential than the traditional method with respect to the participating students' environmental knowledge. Considering the mean scores, the results were found in favor of the experimental group students in terms of such dimensions of environmental literacy as environmental attitude, environmental perception and environmental behavior. The results also revealed that there was a difference between the students' mean scores regarding their self-efficacy perceptions of environmental education in favor of the experimental group. © 2012 HKIEd APFSLT.

    A study on adolescent students’ levels of hopelessness, loneliness and Self-Esteem: A sample from Turkey

    The purpose of the present study was to determine high school students’ levels of hopelessness, self-esteem and loneliness and to examine the relationship between some variables. The research sample included 403 students (Female: 234, Male: 169). In the study, Beck’s hopelessness scale, Rosenberg’s self-esteem scale, Ucla’s loneliness scale and demographic information questionnaire were used as the data collection tool. The data were analyzed using t-test, Anova and descriptive analysis. The findings obtained revealed that there we remeaningful differences and correlations between scores of hopelessness, loneliness and self-esteem of the students in the study with respect to their types of schools, gender, family’s income. Depending on these findings, it is suggested that the students who have to struggle with various difficulties and problems during the period of adolescence, should be provided with psychological support both at schools and in various social units. © 2014, Mediterranean Center of Social and Educational Research.
