Öğe Effects of orthodontic adhesive materials on s. Mutans and lactobacilli levels in human saliva(2006) Başaran, Güvenç; Başaran, Emine; Hamamcı, OrhanThe aim of this study was to evaluate the functions of bracket pellicles as the binding receptors for Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacilli. Different composites used as orthodontic direct bonding adhesives have a polymeric matrix that can host and nurture a variety of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms acting alone or in combination. Their accumulation can lead to the weakening of the bond and possibly the attacking of the tooth. A number of microorganisms have been identified as present on the removed direct bonding brackets. Four different types of orthodontic adhesives were used: Transbond XT, Kurasper F, Ideal 1, Relly A Bond. Samples were evaluated with Ivoclar bacteria Kit. There were significant differences in group evaluation that was include 0,1,2 and 6. months control (P< 0.05). But Between these groups we didn't find any significant differences (P>0.05). Practicing satisfactory oral hygiene, such as adequate tooth brushing, mouth rinsing, and dental flossing, plays a vital role in maintaining healthy teeth, especially in the orthodontic patient.Öğe What kind of orthodontic treatment can effect the lactobacilli and s. Mutans level?(2006) Başaran, Güvenç; Hamamcı, Orhan; Başaran, Emine; 0000-0002-5183-7746Orthodontic appliances often provide good retention sites for oral microorganisms. This leads to a high cariogenic challenge in saliva. The purpose of this study was to evaluate saliva Streptococcus Mutans and Lactobacilli levels in different 5 phase on 24 patients need to both removable and fixed orthodontic application. So we had a possibility to determinate of the S. Mutans and Lactobacilli level in the same sample. These counts were evaluated at 5 stages: before orthodontic treatment, 4 weeks after using of removable appliances, at least 2 weeks after bonding of the brackets, 1 week after application of mouth varnish, and at the end of the orthodontic treatment. Wilcoxon signed ranks test were used to statistical determination. This study shows that orthodontic removable appliances treatment doesn't affect the lactobacilli levels significantly (P>0.05) whereas the level of the S.mutans increased significantly (P<0.05). Besides of that the level of the lactobacilli and S. Mutans didn't change significantly during fixed orthodontic treatment in this oral hygen condition as we advised (P>0.05). In addition, we found that when patients use mouth varnish during fixed orthodontic treatment these microorganism levels reduced significantly (P<0.05).
