Öğe Desulfurization and de-ashing of a mixture of subbituminous coal and gangue minerals by selective oil agglomeration(Soc Mining Metallurgy Exploration Inc, 2009) Ayhan, F. D.The aim of this study was to investigate desulfurization and de-ashing of a mixture of subbituminous coal and gangue minerals by the agglomeration method. For this purpose, experimental studies were conducted on a mixture containing subbituminous coal, pyrite, quartz and calcite. The effects of some parameters that markedly influence the effectiveness of selective oil agglomeration, such as solid concentration, pH, bridging liquid type and concentration, and depressant type and amount. were investigated. Agglomeration results showed that the usage of various depressants (Na2SiO3, FeCl3, corn starch, wheat starch) in the agglomeration medium has a positive effect on the reduction of ash and total sulfur content of agglomerates. It was found that an agglomerate product containing 3.03% total sulfur and 25.01% ash with a total sulfur reduction of 56.71% was obtained from a feed that contained 7% total sulfur and 43.58% ash when FeCl3 was used in the agglomeration medium.Öğe Desulfurization and Deashing of Adiyaman-Golbasi Lignite by Flotation(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2010) Temel, H. A.; Bozkurt, V.; Ayhan, F. D.In this study, desulfurization and deashing of Adiyaman-Golbasi lignite by the flotation method were studied. For this purpose, the study was performed in three groups. The effects of solid concentration, NaOH, and HCl on the desliming before flotation were investigated in the first group of experiments. The effects of some parameters that markedly influence the effectiveness of flotation, such as grinding time, solid concentration, pH, collector type and amount, depressant type and amount, and frother type and amount on the flotation were investigated in the second group of experiments. The effects of lake water and sea water on the flotation were investigated in the third group of experiments. The influences of the Aegean Sea water and soda lake water on the removal of total sulfur were found to be important.Öğe Enrichment of Elazig-Keban fluorite by flotation method(Taylor & Francis As, 2006) Ayhan, F. D.; Bozdogan, M.; Temel, H. A.In the present study, the upgrading of Elazig-Keban fluorite was studied using flotation method. For this purpose, experimental studies were conducted on the fluorite sample with a composition of 43.3CaF(2)-21.3SiO(2)-32.4CaCO(3). The effects of particle size, pH, depressant amount, depressant conditioning time, collector amount, collector conditioning time and water temperature on the fluorite flotation were investigated. As a result, it was found that while a concentrate containing 92.1% CaF2 with 82% recovery was achieved at 30 degrees C, a concentrate containing 87.2% CaF2 with 76.9% recovery was achieved at 16 degrees C.Öğe An Investigation of Evaluation Possibilities of Mus-Elmakaya Lignite(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2011) Ayhan, M.; Ayhan, F. D.; Temel, H. AbakayLignite is the most important source of energy in Turkey. Turkish lignite is usually low in heating value and burning characteristic with high sulfur and ash content. They are unable to conform to air protection regulation requirements if burned as mined. Generally, they are used in power plants causing environmental problems. In this study, evaluation possibilities of Mus-Elmakaya lignite are investigated. For this purpose, experimental studies were performed with lignite samples taken from a lignite field in Mus-Elmakaya, Turkey. First, petrographic analysis, major element analysis, and proximate analysis of lignite samples were done. Afterwards, washability properties of lignite samples were determined. Evaluation of the washability properties was done by using washability number, calorific value, and sulfur content of the clean coal obtained from float-sink tests and the obtained results were presented.Öğe Investigation of the effects of various water mediums on desulfurization and deashing of a coal sample by flotation(Soc Mining Metallurgy Exploration Inc, 2009) Ayhan, F. D.The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of various water mediums on desulfurization and deashing of a coal sample using flotation. For this purpose, experimental studies were conducted on a coal sample containing high ash and sulfur contents. The effects of pH, solid concentration, collector amount and frother amount on the flotation were investigated separately in Mediterranean Sea water, Cermik thermal spring water, snow water and tap water. Flotation, results indicated that, when comparing the various water mediums, the following order for the ash content was obtained: snow water < Cermik thermal spring water < tap water < the Mediterranean Sea water. For the reduction of total sulfur, the following order was obtained: snow water > Cermik thermal spring water > Mediterranean Sea water > tap water. When snow water was used as a flotation medium, it was found that a concentrate containing 3.01% total sulfur and 27.64% ash with a total sulfur reduction of 57.06% was obtained from a feed containing 7.01% total sulfur and 4.1.17% ash.
