Öğe Biotinidase Deficiency Accompanying Hair Changes and Periorificial Lesions: A Case Report(Galenos Yayincilik, 2011) Ayhan, Erhan; Kivrak, Abdullah; Aytekin, SemaBiotinidase deficiency is impairment of biotin metabolism characterized by various dermatological, ophthalmic and neurological symptoms. Autosomal recessive trait is a disorder. Skin findings such as alopecia, periorificial dermatitis and seborrhoeic dermatitis lesions are seen. Clinical signs improved dramatically with biotine treatment. We presented a 6-year-old male patient with periorificial lesions, alopecia and microscopic hair shaft defects.Öğe Burns due to wet wood ash: three cases(Informa Healthcare, 2014) Ayhan, Erhan; Akkurt, Zeynep Meltem; Ucmak, DeryaWood ash, a traditional multipurpose agent, is sometimes used under occlusion as a folkloric prescription to ease pain and edema. Adding water or oil to ash forms a mixture with strong alkaline properties. We present interesting three cases who sustained full-thickness burns after application of a poultice of wetted wood ash for the treatment of leg pain.Öğe A case of extraocular sebaceous carcinoma with unusual dermoscopic features: Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night landscape(Wiley, 2024) Ayhan, Erhan; Temmo, SulinÖğe Clinical and dermoscopic evaluation of cutaneous leishmaniasis(Wiley, 2015) Ayhan, Erhan; Ucmak, Derya; Baykara, Sule Nergiz; Akkurt, Zeynep Meltem; Arica, MustafaBackgroundDermoscopy is a method to aid in the visualization of the epidermis and dermis. In recent years, the use of dermoscopy in the diagnosis of non-melanocytic lesions such as those of leishmania cutis has increased. ObjectivesThis study was intended to establish whether dermoscopic investigation has any diagnostic value in cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL). MethodsFifty-five patients diagnosed with CL at the Department of Dermatology, Faculty of Medicine, Dicle University, between February and October 2012, were included in the study. Collectively, the patients exhibited a total of 127 lesions. ResultsThe meanstandard deviation age of the patients was 25.7 +/- 21.3years (range: 4-86years). Twenty-three (41.8%) patients were male, and 32 (58.2%) were female. In dermoscopy, teardrop-like structures were observed in 42.5% of the lesions. Vascular structures were detected in 115 (90.6%) lesions; no vascular structures were observed in 12 (9.4%) lesions. Branching, linear, comma-like, and polymorphic vessels were seen more commonly in lesions on the face; pin-point and hairpin-like vessels were seen more commonly in lesions on the upper extremities. ConclusionsWhen the findings obtained in this study were evaluated along with those reported in the literature, it became apparent that follicular plugs, also called teardrop-like structures, seen on the face and neck may be a dermoscopic feature specific to CL. As hairpin-like vessels seen in an asymmetric radial arrangement were often observed on parts of the body other than the face, further dermoscopic studies comparing the lesions of CL with other ulcerating lesions are necessary.Öğe Dermoscopy of oral mucocele: three types of extravasation mucoceles(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2020) Ayhan, Erhan; Toprak, Serdar Ferit; Kaya, Seyhmus; Akkaynak, SerikeBackground/aim: Dermoscopy is a diagnostic tool that assists in imaging the epidermis and dermis. Although it has also started to be used to diagnose nonmelanocytic lesions recently, it has not been tested much on oral mucosal masses, such as oral mucoceles. This study aimed to investigate whether dermoscopy is a valuable tool in diagnosing oral mucoceles. Materials and methods: In this study, the clinical and dermoscopic features of 21 oral mucocele lesions of 21 patients (11 females, 10 males) aged between 6 and 38 years who were confirmed histopathologically were evaluated. Results: Of the lesions studied, 95.2% (20) were extravasation and 4.8% (1) were retention mucoceles. The nonvascular structures were determined as white areas (61.9%, 13), erythema (57.1%, 12), purplish-gray background (52.3%, 11), ulcer (30%, 8), yellowish-orange areas (23.8%, 5), crust (14.2%, 3), starburst pattern (0.95%, 2), and bleeding (0.47%, 1). Dermoscopically, 40% of extravasation mucoceles were classified as type 1 (8 patients), 25% as type 2 (5 patients), and 35% as type 3 (7 patients). Conclusion: We concluded that there are 3 types of extravasation mucoceles dermoscopically and clinically, and these types may be stages of transition between each other.Öğe H syndrome: A rare genodermatosis(Wiley, 2020) An, Isa; Ozturk, Murat; Ayhan, Erhan; Ibiloglu, Ibrahim[Abstract Not Available]Öğe Is Omalizumab Alone an Effective Treatment for Patients with Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria?(Galenos Publ House, 2024) Gazioglu, Halil Ibrahim; Ayhan, ErhanAim While 2(nd )generation antihistamines are the first-line treatment for chronic urticaria (CU), omalizumab is recommended for the treatment of patients with inadequate response to these drugs. This study investigated the need for additional treatment while using omalizumab and the factors affecting this need. Materials and Methods In this study, we retrospectively evaluated the patients who were admitted to our dermatology clinic who started and continued to receive omalizumab at the recommended standard dose between January 01, 2023 and May 01, 2023 for CU. Results Among 90 patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria receiving omalizumab, 51 (56.7%) needed additional treatment, whereas 39 (43.3%) did not need any additional treatment. However, of the 51 patients who developed complaints, 42 (82.4%) had their complaints controlled with antihistamines only, 7 (13.7%) with antihistamines and systemic steroids, 1 (2%) with systemic steroids only, and 1 (2%) with antihistamines, chloroquine, and cyclosporine. Among the patients who used antihistamines to control their complaints, the minimum antihistamine dose was once a day in 33 patients (66%), 2 times a day in 13 patients, 3 times a day in 3 patients and four times in 1 patient. Conclusion A considerable number of patients with CU using omalizumab did not need additional treatment, and the complaints of patients who needed additional treatment were managed with low-dose antihistamines in a short period.Öğe Kronik mukokutanöz kandidiyazis: nadir bir hastalık(Doğu Karadeniz Deri ve Zührevi Hastalıklar Derneği, 2022) Erat, Tuğba; An, İsa; Öztürk, Murat; Aksoy, Mustafa; Ayhan, Erhan; Uçan, Egemen"Editöre mektup" makale türünde Mucosa için özet sunulmasına gerek yoktur.Öğe Low dose of isotretinoin: A comprehensive review(Wiley, 2020) Abdelmaksoud, Ayman; Lotti, Torello; Anadolu, Rana; Goldust, Mohamed; Ayhan, Erhan; Dave, Dharmendra D.; Vestita, MichelangeloIsotretinoin is a first-generation retinoid initially approved for the treatment of severe cases of acne vulgaris (nodulocystic acne). Because of its broad anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties, it has been used beyond its initial approval in a myriad of other indications. Adverse effects of isotretinoin vary from xerosis to teratogenicity. Herein, we reviewed the literature, through date-unlimited PubMed search, from inception till December 2019, using the following search terms: low-dose isotretinoin and dermatology, isotretinoin and safety, isotretinoin, off-label uses, isotretinoin and male fertility, isotretinoin, iPLEDGE system, aiming to deliver a therapeutic update relevant to clinical practice. All English-language articles were considered with no limitation based on the articles' type. Low-dose isotretinoin is not limited to old and novel dermatological conditions, but also showed promising results in the field of infertility and safety in the field of gastroenterology. We also highlight on the safety profile of the drug and experts' recommendations to enhance safety measures to decrease fetal risk while on isotretinoin.Öğe Premature or nevoid sebaceous hyperplasia? Two case reports of a rare disease(Wiley, 2021) Ozturk, Murat; Ayhan, Erhan; An, Isa; Akman Ilik, Zehra; Kaya, SeyhmusEarly or familial cases of sebaceous hyperplasia (SH) with multiple lesions, thought to be associated with genetic predisposition, have been reported in young individuals. Rarely reported variants include the giant, diffuse, zosteriform, and/or linear (nevoid) form. However, premature SH, defined as benign proliferation of sebaceous glands that occurs during or after puberty, is histologically similar to SH. Whether the definitions of nevoid SH or premature SH are the same remains unclear. We report two sporadic cases of premature SH.Öğe Rapid and Easy Diagnosis of Netherton Syndrome with Dermoscopy(B C Decker Inc, 2014) Akkurt, Zeynep Meltem; Tuncel, Tuba; Ayhan, Erhan; Ucmak, Derya; Uluca, Unal; Ucak, HaydarBackground: Netherton syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive disease demonstrating ichthyosis linearis circumflexa, atopic findings, and hair shaft anomalies. Trichorrhexis invaginata is the pathognomonic hair shaft anomaly seen in this syndrome. Objective: In recent years, hair shaft anomalies have been described as matchstick and golf tee signs. We present a patient with Netherton syndrome diagnosed by the presence of matchstick and golf tee hairs in addition to trichorrhexis invaginata.Öğe Results of patch testing in pediatric patients with plantar dermatitis and literature review(Turkish J Pediatrics, 2014) Akkurt, Zeynep Meltem; Ucmak, Derya; Ayhan, Erhan; Ucak, Haydar; Arica, MustafaWe aimed to determine the frequency of positive patch test reactions in pediatric patients with plantar dermatitis. Children diagnosed as inflammatory dermatitis of the plantar foot were included. Demographic and clinical characteristics of the patients were recorded, and patch testing was done using the European standard series antigens. Seventeen patients (9 females, 8 males) were included in the study. Ages of the patients ranged from 4-13 years, and the median age was 7.0. Seven patients had one to three positive reactions, seven had all negative reactions, one showed angry back syndrome, and results of two could not be assessed. Dermatitis of the feet is not rare in pediatric patients, and a significant percentage of these patients will be diagnosed as allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) if detailed and appropriate patch testing is done.Öğe Tinea kapıtıs profunda: Retrospektif değerlendirme(2014) Aytekin, Sema; Ayhan, ErhanAmaç: Tinea kapitis profunda (TKP),pürülan akıntı ve bölgesel lenfadenopatinineşlik ettiği süpüratif, ağrılı nodüller ilekarakterizedir.
