Öğe The evaluation of relationship between plasma asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) and aortic stiffness in patients with systemic sclerosis(2013) Aritürk Z.; Dağ Ş.; Ali Elbey M.; Kaya H.; Erta F.; Bozkurt M.; Çevik R.Objective: Endothelial dysfunction and vasculopathy are crucial pathogenic factors in systemic sclerosis. Increased concentrations of plasma asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) may also contribute to endothelial dysfunction in patients with systemic sclerosis. We evaluated the relationship between ADMA and aortic elastic properties in patients with systemic sclerosis. Material and Method: Plasma ADMA levels were measured in 30 patients with systemic sclerosis (28 females, mean age 40.7±11.6) and 30 healthy subjects (27 females, mean age 40.6±13). Aortic stiffness was determined with echocardiography. Results: In patients with systemic sclerosis, the mean value of ADMA was 0.53±0.13?mol/l compared with 0.46±0.15 ?mol/l for control group. Systolic blood pressure, pulse pressure and aortic 'strain' were found to be higher in patients with systemic sclerosis (p=0.027, p=0.048, p=0.037, respectively), diyastolic blood pressure and aortic distensibility was found lower in systemic sclerosis (p=0.039, p=0.045, respectively). There was no significant correlations between ADMA and aortic 'strain'. Conclusion: ADMA serum levels were increased in patients with systemic sclerosis, but no significant correlation was found between ADMA and aort's elastic structure (aortic 'strain', distensibility, and aortic stiffness index).Öğe Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia and cerebrovasculer thromboembolia(2007) Al B.; Akil A.; Aritürk Z.; Akil E.Heparin-lnduced Thrombocytopenia is formed as a result of heparin and platelet- factor 4 complexes and the complex which antibodies interaction against. It threats life by causing artery and venous thromboembolia. It is diagnosed with clinical findings and the laboratory consequences that support clinical findings. When it is diagnosed the heparin therapy must be stopped. Nowadays, there are many drugs used as anticoagulation therapy such as lepirudin, argatroban danaparoid,-bivalurudin and fondaparinux. In this study, we discussed a patient with unstable angina pectoris in whom Heparin-lnduced Thrombocytopenia and cerebrovasculer thromboembolia was developed after heparin was applied.Öğe Pericardial involvement of malignant pleural mesothelioma: Comparison of two imaging methods(2005) Tanrikulu A.C.; Özdemir L.; Eren Da?li C.; Şenyi?it A.; Aritürk Z.Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) tends to progress locally. Data relating pericardial involvement is limited. In this study, the relationship between pericardial involvement and the severity of the disease was investigated. Total of 27 MPM patients; 9 (33%) female, 18 (67%) male who were followed-up between January 2001-December 2003 in Chest Diseases and Thoracal Surgery departments of Dicle University Hospital were included to the study. The mean age was found as 51.8+- 12.3 (22-82). Of patients 23 (85%) had asbestos exposure and it was environmental. Of patients, 22 ( 82%) was diagnosed by pleural biopsy, 5 (18%) by operative methods. Epithelial type was detected in 11 cases, mixed type in 3 cases and sarcomatous type in 1 case. Type detection could not be done in 12 patients. Stage 1 included 18 (67%) patients, stage 2 included 8 (29%) patients and stage 3 included 1 (4%) patient. Pericardial involvement was investigated by echocardiographic method. Totally 19 (70%) patients were found to have pericardial involvement. Of these cases; 9 patients had pericardial thickening, 8 had increasement of pericardial echogenity, 2 had pericardial mass and 2 had pericardial effusion. No relationship was detected between the stage of the disease and echocardiographic pericardial involvement. Torax CT of 4 patients showed pericardial involvement. Pericardial involvement in MPM patients occurs frequently. This involvement can be detected by echocardiography easily. In these cases, routine echocardiographic investigation is a non-invasive, cheap and usefull method.
