Simultaneous cataract extraction and posterior capsulotomy with anterior vitrectomy and IOL implantation is an effective and safe procedure in bilateral pediatric cataracts treatment.Öğe Clinical manifestations of tuberous sclerosis complex(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, 2013) Atay A.E.; Akbas H.; Sakar N.; Pasa S.; Ari S.; Ekin N.Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is an autosomal dominant syndrome or in sporadic form characterized by hamartamatous lesions in multiple organs. It affects several sites such as skin, kidney, lung, heart, central nervous system and liver in diferent stages of disease. TSC is caused by mutations on either chromosome 9 (9q34, the TSC1 gene) or chromosome 16 (16p13, TSC2 gene). TSC1 and TSC2 genes encode proteins called tuberin and hamartin; respectively. Although the pathogenetic mechanism is exactly unknown, a possible mechanism is a GTPase-activating protein against Rheb (Ras homolog enriched in brain), which regulates mTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin) signaling. The mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), is a serine-threonine kinase that increases cell proliferation and growth. We aimed to review the clinical manifestations and their predictive role on the course of disease.Öğe Our results of follow up and treatment in retinopathy of prematurity(2012) Şahin A.; Ari S.; Cingü A.K.; Peker U.; Murat M.; Yolbaş I.; Çaça I.Purpose: To determine the frequency of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and the results of the treatment with argon laser photocoagulation (ALP) and intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB) injection. Material and Methods: The records of the premature babies were retrospectively evaluated between June 2010 and May 2011. Birth weight, gestational age, retinopathy grade and zone were investigated. Indirect ALP ± IVB were performed when prethreshold ROP was detected. Results: The records of 285 premature babies were evaluated. Of them, 150 were male, and 135 were female. Mean gestational age was 29.9±3.1 weeks and mean birth weight was 1443±518 g. ROP was detected in 180 patients. Sixty eyes of 30 patients were treated with ALP. Eight eyes of 5 patients were treated with adjuvant IVB. In patients with lower gestational age and lower birth weight, the stage of the ROP was more advanced (p<0.001). ROP was regressed in 28 of 30 patients after treatment. Retinal detachment developed in 2 eyes of 2 patients, who had previously diagnosed as threshold disease. Conclusion: the results of ALP treatment at the prethreshold disease were successful, and the complications were lower. Adjuvant treatment with IVB is very effective and promising, especially in eyes with hazy media and/or refractory to the ALP treatment.Öğe Trabeculectomy with mitomycin-C in neovascular galucoma patients.(2008) Caça I.; Ari S.; Sakalar Y.B.; Unlü K.; Dogan E.We sought to determine the effectiveness of trabeculectomy with mitomycin-C (MMC) in neovascular glaucoma (NVG) patients. Trabeculectomy with MMC in NVG patients is a method that has high rate of short-term success.
