Öğe Effectiveness of intravitreal bevacizumab injection in patients has macular edema due to central retinal vein occlusion(Gazi Eye Foundation, 2014) Şahin M.; Yüksel H.; Şahin A.; Cingü A.K.; Türkcü F.M.; Çinar Y.; Çaça I.Purpose: To evaluate effectiveness of intravitreal bevacizumab injection (IVBI) in patients has with macular edema (ME) due to central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO). Materials and Methods: Between January 2007-May 2012 the patients who treated with IVBI due to ME secondary to CRVO was rewieved retrospectively. Patients demographic characteristics, medical history, complete ophthalmologic examination including visual acuity(VA) before and after IVBI, optical coherence tomography and central macular thickness (CMT), fundus angiography, retinal ischemia were recorded. VA measurements were converted to LogMAR. CRVO was divided into 2 groups as ischemic and nonischemic. Results: 22 (16 male, 6 female) eyes of 22 patients were included. The age of the patients was 60.9±10.5 (39-80) years. Five of the patients were ischemic and 17 of them were nonischemic. The age of ischemic and nonischemic group was 64.6±9.5, 60.4±11 years, respectively (p>0.05). IVBI was applied 3.2±0.8 times in ischemic group and 2.0±1.1 times in nonischemic group. The follow up time was 3.7±2 months (1-6 months). All patients' baseline, 1, 3, 6. month VA were 1.28±0.71, 0.92±0.55, 0.93±0.35 and 0.70±0.49 LogMAR respectively. Although not significant, final VA was increased according to first VA. The CMT measurement of patients was 630±169 ?m in baseline, in 1. month it was 395±152 ?m, at 3.month they were 465±243 ?m, at 6. month they were 395±98 ?m level and there was statistically significant decrease according to the baseline record, 1, 3 and 6. month. Conclusion: Although IVBI is an effective treatment for ME due to CRVO there was an increase in VA in short term, the main limitations are being effective in short term and needing repeated injections. © 2015 Hematolojik Hastaliklarda Góz Bulgulari.Öğe Our results of follow up and treatment in retinopathy of prematurity(2012) Şahin A.; Ari S.; Cingü A.K.; Peker U.; Murat M.; Yolbaş I.; Çaça I.Purpose: To determine the frequency of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and the results of the treatment with argon laser photocoagulation (ALP) and intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB) injection. Material and Methods: The records of the premature babies were retrospectively evaluated between June 2010 and May 2011. Birth weight, gestational age, retinopathy grade and zone were investigated. Indirect ALP ± IVB were performed when prethreshold ROP was detected. Results: The records of 285 premature babies were evaluated. Of them, 150 were male, and 135 were female. Mean gestational age was 29.9±3.1 weeks and mean birth weight was 1443±518 g. ROP was detected in 180 patients. Sixty eyes of 30 patients were treated with ALP. Eight eyes of 5 patients were treated with adjuvant IVB. In patients with lower gestational age and lower birth weight, the stage of the ROP was more advanced (p<0.001). ROP was regressed in 28 of 30 patients after treatment. Retinal detachment developed in 2 eyes of 2 patients, who had previously diagnosed as threshold disease. Conclusion: the results of ALP treatment at the prethreshold disease were successful, and the complications were lower. Adjuvant treatment with IVB is very effective and promising, especially in eyes with hazy media and/or refractory to the ALP treatment.Öğe Phthirus pubis infestation of the eyelashes(2006) Çaça I.; Ünlü K.; Ari Ş.; Satar A.; Özkul S.Background: We reported a case of Phthiriasis palpebrarum on the eyelash of a 25 year-old female, accompanied by nits. Case Report: Phthiriasis palpebrarum is a rare disease in which crab lice infest the eyelashes. It can cause pruritic lid margins or unusual blepharoconjunctivitis and is difficult to diagnose and treat. We diagnosed and managed a case of Phthiriasis palpebrarum on the eyelash of a 25 year-old female, accompanied by nits. The eyelash infestation was successfully managed with twice daily applications of petrolatum for 10 days and manual removal of nits and lice. One month after, all lice and nits were eradicated without recurrence and the eyelashes grew back. Conclusion: Petrolatum topically is both a safe and effective treatment for Phthiriasis palpebrarum. We recommend it as the treatment of choice.
