Evaluation of some agricultural wastes for the cultivation of edible mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus var. salignus)
Abstract
Soybean and lentil straw were used as culture media for Pleurotus ostreatus var salignus. As additive substance, 15, 30 and 60 g doses of lentil straw were added to 100 g soybean to obtain different rates in the culture medium. The N% in composite dry weight were 0.5 for control group and 0.60, 0.75 and,0.92 in 15, 30 and 60 g doses of lentil straw, respectively. The effect of different doses of lentil straw on harvesting time was not statistically significant as to control group (p<0.05). The first and total shortest harvesting period in 60 g dose was obtained in 28.5 and 60.4 days, respectively. The highest total fresh yield per 1000 g of material (70% moisture) was 247.5 g in 15 g dose, while the lowest yield was 209.5 g in control group. The dry weight of the product obtained in the experimental group was found to be 10%. The % protein contents (N x 6.25) were 31.68 for control and 31.25, 51.87 and 46.87 for 15, 30 and 60 g doses, respectively.
