Özet

Absurd theater, spanning from the Alfred Jarry who was at the forefront of French surrealism with King Ubu and to its’ pinnacle period after the Second World War, disregards all of classical theater’s rules and norms. In the absurd, lack of communication, death, loneliness and the meaninglessness of life are handled very differently and the audience is surprised, even agitated by the portrayals. The interconnectedness of tragedy and comedy lies in this bewilderment and agitation. It is the dilemma between humans’ mortal fats, and the passion they feel for life. This makes all the behaviors’ both tragic and comical. Dark humor has an important place in the absurd and can be frequently seen in the most of the works of the master Beckett. This paper concentrates on the tragic-comical features of the authors Endgame and especially concentrates on the richness of meaning created. The study progresses in two stages: In the first instance the characters are analyzed with their various features and the tragedy of their realities. At the second stage of the study the comedy behind their tragedy is studied
