In this study, the local analgesic effects of lidocaine-prilocaine formulation (EMLA CREAM) in reducing pain being due to spinal needle was investigated in adult patients prepared for elective surgery. EMLA Cream was administered to ninety adult patients with intervals of 30, 60, 90 minutes. Visual Analgesia Scale (VAS) of 60 and 90 minutes’ groups was significantly lower than 30 minutes’ group of EMLA (P ? 0.0001). And with the administration of the cream for 30 minutes, analgesia was found to occur. Analgesia was observed to increase in depth due to the prolonged duration. Paleness and redness occurred as a side effect in the region where the cream was administered. No patient was bothered with EMLA Cream application and patients treated with cream application were satisfied in terms of analgesia. With its proper formulation, ease of use and implementation of all age groups, EMLA cream was observed to constitute enough analgesia, being applied at least 60 minutes in the spinal anesthesia.
